If I were you I would wait for at least 10 years or so, then maybe the cellular will be a chip implanted in your brain!!

But the world will end by 2012 anyway, so I guess you shouldn't wait that long....

I think it's up to you with what you go for.

If your current phone is working well for you, maybe wait for the MeeGo device.

The reason I went for the N900 were the following:

- I don't want to be dependent on proprietary software (server or desktop side), this will eventually mean me moving away from Gmail and to something hosted by myself in the near future just like how I moved myself away from the Apple 'lifestyle', I just need to work out the right software to use.
- Being able to play divx out of the box means less CPU time and power being devoted to transcoding to mp4.
- Being able to make Skype calls from the contacts app.

I think that the N900 seems to work well enough for me, if I could afford a complete apple solution for my computing, I'd be all Apple and iPhone instead, but that would cost thousands for that solution, whereas Maemo, ESXi with a few virtual ubuntu servers and Moblin on my netbook is serving my pretty well so far.

I also don't know whether to buy N900 or wait for phone with MeeGo... I'm afraid that N900 will be quickly forgotten but I also feel that next Nxxx device will be lacking physical keyboard which is going to be a deal breaker to me... So there are two options: To buy N900 and hope that big companies will finally start supporting it or: to wait for next device and hope that it's going to have same form factor as N900 plus better hardware and good support from developers.

For robot arm guy:

rx-51 -> n900
rx-71 -> n920

See what I did there?

apparently they are trying not to promote it in some countries, after they've me that on the 24th of march it will be available to purchase, now they are letting me to purchase it, but the expected delivery date is 19th of april.
I'm really considering not buying it anymore.

Even if N900 may look as a "one hit wonder" the truth is that most developers will remain N900-centered and some of them maybe until the second meego device. If you jump directly to meego you might encounter some frustration as not everybody will instantly jump to develop on a device that they don't have while they just bought one; sure, ports will come but support and latest version will always be a little late at the beginning.

I believe my N900 will live a long softwareful life and should depart from me no sooner than next years june-july(1.5 years after I bought it). By then maemo and meego should be at the same level.

The n900 is my first smartphone/mini laptop type-thing. I have zero knowledge of linux/scripting or anything. Firsly, I think it is a wonderful piece of hardware for my needs ( a lot of full-fat web browsing, some yahoo email stuff, some phone calls and quite a lot of sms) and I have even managed to get iplayer running using the boards on here (and I have to say, it really is a community in the truest sense, some of these people really are super, super helpful and the knowledge sharing and good nature are heartwarming).

I'm not too worried about meego or whatever. Basically, the point of this phone is that you can do what you want with it.

As a first-time smartphone (or whatever you want to call it) owner, I am very happy with the n900 after a month of use. I love the fact that it isn't all polished and heavily marketed. If you have reservations about this, maybe this isn't the phone for you.
