Is there any chance for this app to be stable enough to be included in extra repository?

It is stable enough, going to request a bug tracker soon to push it into -testing. Then I need to fix the language file for arabic (already fixed, just going to upload it), upload it into -devel then promote.

Language file for arabic fixed, and requested a bug tracker, hopefully I'll get it into extras soon.

Tanks for the new version.

Like to have a Dutch and Turkish translation for the menu?
I could help you

Just checked and there is a Turkish translation, and it's not missing any labels! (the Arabic one had missing labels).
Change the lang = XX in /home/user/.noor to the language you want.
ar (Arabic)
fa (Farsi)
ml (Malayalam)
ps (Pushto)
tr (Turkish)
If you can provide a Dutch translation I'd be happy to add it into the app, as well as your name in the Credits section :)

I attached a zip file, it contains a noor.pot file, this file contains all labels, just add the text in Dutch between the "" for the label above, don't forget to fill in the info in the above section (email and such) so that I can add your name.
Added the turkish .po file if you want to have a look at how to fill it/translate it. Open them in gedit on linux or wordpad on Windows (Notepad will most probably break line breaks)
Language code for Dutch is nl btw.

Thanks in advance :)

P.S I'm still looking for an easy way to add a language picker to the UI, so the edit above might not be needed.

Lol!

Turkish is pretty wrong :p
I'll translate it correct :)

The Dutch translation is ready.
I'll upload it asap.

1 more thing:
Could you please some autodetect function so it will pick the language as the default device language.

Also: Selecting a language by manual would also be great :p

I didn't translate it into Turkish, it's from he original PC app :)

Thanks for the Dutch translation.

Hit the update icon to refresh the repos and update, it's in extras-devel.

Re: Noor (Quran app) working on the N900

Is there a English version of The Quran?

MohammadAG 2010-04-17 13:10

Re: Noor (Quran app) working on the N900

Might add packages to add translations (settings will however be hardcoded till I figure out how to edit them from the app itself - hard coded means I'll replace the .noor file after each install).

Any suggestions/preferences from http://zekr.org/resources.html#translation ?

Edit: just a preview, would appreciate font suggestions:
http://i42.tinypic.com/awcd45.jpg

Edit 2: since the version for the original app and the maemo 5 app are different, I decided to keep V1.2.1 in the main title and set the Maemo 5 app version as build, also changed the URL to this thread:

for the translations, I use kchmviewer that is in the repos

and download the Qurans in many languages at:
www.selam.org
(it's at the top of the website)

I think the app is made to support the Zekr translations.
Package for english translation ready, just need to upload it to -devel :)

English translation package in extras-devel, it will backup the .noor config file and create a new one, if you uninstall it the backup should go back.

You're welcome :)
Let's try to keep replies in English though, since most mods prefer it to be that way

It's not an app what I refer....

It's just an "help file" that can be read through the viewer on your N900.

Easy to use if you only want to read translations and find words on it :)

Try it out (on your PC or N900)

Re: Noor (Quran app) working on the N900

I always avoided extra-testing or extra-devel cause I can't afford any breakage. But for Noor I am willing to make the exception. That's the least I could contribute :P

Currently reading http://wiki.maemo.org/Extras-testing to understand what I need to do for testing. Am I on the right track?

Just test it and see if you find major blockers
Package is optified, dependencies are installble afaik.
Try installing it without enabling extras-devel, if it works, please vote it up so it can reach extras :)

Re: Noor (Quran app) working on the N900

Someone sent me a message today (they should know who they are)
Can you please try to update your repositories and try again? Click download, tap the title bar and click refresh, then try to install it again. Build 1 had issues with the postinst and preinst files.

Please enable PM reception as I couldn't reply back.

Re: Noor (Quran app) working on the N900

Dear MohammedAG thank you for this application. I installed both "Noor 0.6-1" the application and "Noor English Quran translation 0.1-2" file. When i run Noor the application and show the Sura it work fine but only in Arabic. How can I see both the english translation with Arabic.

Thanks again.

Re: Noor (Quran app) working on the N900

I tried to uninstall the app along with the translations package, but failed. It shows an error saying 'Unable to uninstall'.

What should I do?

Re: Noor (Quran app) working on the N900

Even if I try to update it the translation version, it doesn't update..:(

Can you please download install rootsh from the repos, then open terminal, type root, and
Code:

dpkg -r noor-yusufali-english
then post what the error says?
Alternatively you can copy it from the Hildon Application Manager log (hit title bar then click Log)

Edit: Actually I think I found the problem, it seems that you installed noor then the translations package without opening noor, so there wasn't a config file to backup. Postinst script is hard coded to backup and create a new config file, and since there isn't one it fails, fixing asap.

Edit 2: FIXED, backup file name changed to allow more translation packages.
Noor updated to 0.6-2
English translation updated to 0.1-3

zaedej 2010-04-20 17:14

Re: Noor (Quran app) working on the N900

It doesn't even let me update either. It shows that there are two updates for NOOR and the Translation but it doesn't update it says 'Unable to update'

So, should I download rootsh and try to do the stuff you asked me?

malfares 2010-04-20 17:33

Re: Noor (Quran app) working on the N900

Dear MohammadG I thank you again for this application.
I installed the last two updates of "Noor" and the "english translation update 0.1-2" then I tried to update "english translation update 0.1-3" but it say 'Unable to update'. Then I did run the code: dpkg -r noor-yusufali-english then I got the following massege:
dpkg: error processing noor-yusuffali-english (--remove): Package is in a very bad inconsistent state- you should reinstall it before attempting a removal.

Await your advice.

Thanks.

It's strange since I tested the deb, twice!

Update: I did run apt-get install noor-yusufali-english, and it worked. No error and it installed the translation. Now I can see the english translation when I ran the application Noor.

Regards.

Yes you need to have rootsh installed.
After installing it type root then:
Code:

Re: Noor (Quran app) working on the N900

how do I uninstall the noor app as well as the translation package? When I go to uninstall the english translation, I get an error reading :"unable to uninstall 'noor english quran translation' "

Then if i try to uninstall the noor application it says: "unable to uninstall 'noor'. some application packages are needed by other applications."

Im not able to update them either, so i was trying to uninstall and reinstall the newer versions.

Ok I got the noor english translator install but I don't know how to get into the home/user/.noor to change it to the language. The instruction is very vague.
