@volt
so u walk in a (phone) store...ask what is the latest they have from a particular manufacturer buy it...walk out...and expect it to work the way the last one did?....
well im a bit different...i see a product...LEARN a bit about it...read up and see if it suits me....try it instore....get a "real" feel....and decide (thus test drive a car before purchase)....
what bothers me is the fact that the OP was a member of this forum for a bit...so i think he had to see some of the issues with the N900 BEFORE he purchased....correct?
people have just gotten too lazy to actually do some research before going for "the latest thing"....my other half uses the N900...is she a tech geek? no. does she love her N900? yes
but she was going for the N97mini first but read up on the N900...had a play in the Nokia flagship in london...and asked a few questions BEFORE she purchased....(which i think is common sense....) and found out its shortcomings...yet she bought it...why? even with its limitations...she knew what she was getting into.....BEFOREHAND....
i do have a prob with people slating the N900....saying it lacks phone features....clearly nokia stated it was a tablet that can make calls...and NEVER the other way around....
and about the marketing? who made it a mass device? nokia? they again have clearly stated they never intended it to be a mass device.....

So when you buy a pizza, the first thing you ask is whether it is poisoned? When you book a hotel room, do you enquire about the room having a roof?

Re: Returning my N900

I am sorry, but I was unable and unwilling to spend more money on going to the Nokia flagship store in London than the device costed. I had read about it for at least 37.5 hours before I bought it and I have a full time++ job. And I was rushed into buying one because my HP smartphone died. I could not have gotten more information than I did before I decided on a device. And yet it surprised me with blatantly basic features missing. And you know what?

I wouldn't have thought to try to change the ring sound for a contact if I had been in London.

Yes. Nokia. They are marketing this device strongly. And the chains has it as their lead ad. There is being pushed considerably amounts of money into marketing this thing.

By Nokia.

So, what do the world know about it has been said at some nokia invite-only conference that it's not intended for mass market when they are infact marketed full on everywhere?

This is some kind of reality denial, because a handful of people know about the five step program, people buying into massive advertising campaigns should not be allowed to expect anything much for their phone + more device?

I have to ask every time, if they brought the tabasco...

True dat. For better and for worse.

50% of Americans get divorced from their first spouse. Of those 50% that remarry, 95% of them get divorced again. There's plenty of speculation why this is, but as a divorced American I tend to go with this one:

The concept of the "American Dream" creates a false sense that someone can change their stars faster than is actually possible. The future becomes more important than the present. Till you die.

Who knows, maybe we're just spoiled brats with too many choices. Regardless, the point is, that making good decisions is unfortunately sometimes learned from making bad ones. Or, more obviously, making good decisions gets harder as the number of choices increase.

$600, on average, is piss-in-the-ocean in the grand scheme of bad decisions. If you want to blame Nokia, go ahead, but when a top cheese says this is step 4 of 5, that should have been in the title of every n900 review. Blame the bloggers if you must blame someone, the rest of us mostly knew what we were getting. But generally, take appropriate responsibility for your bad decisions and move on. Please.

Unlike my marriage, I thought the n900 was going to be a bad decision. I was wrong. Again. I should look at that.

Best of luck with the Droid. The HD2 is a nice HTC phone and Android is a nice java platform for apps. Not for me, but then choice is a wonderful thing.

I never ever checked the internet each time to check if this was the case. Why would I do so for the N900. Some features are assumed to be a given, particularly if you have had 8 phones from that manufacturer that had that feature. Custom ringtones is just an example.

Sorry don't mean to be rude but it is absolutely ridiculous to suggest you should check whether a $600 device has things which are ridiculously basic.

They are all Symbian phones though I suspect. That is a bit like saying you've used an Intel based machine that runs Windows so confused when buying a new Mac with Intel processor & it isn't the same.

I do however, agree that the sales staff in shops seem very ignorant of the difference and will say anything to get a sale.
