Received sms/missed call notification
Like previous phones including my iPhone 3G, it would be easy to see missed calls and recieved texts when my phone was locked.
I know we've got the flashing light, and the flash icon on the top left of the screen, but what I'd like to see is SMS received, Missed Call etc info on the locked screen of my Nokia N900. Is this possible or is there an app avaiable for this? thanks all |

i dont think google voice is what i need. that sounds like another routing programme. i want something added to the existing setup.
basically, what i want is notification on this screenshot to say the number of messages waiting, and number of phone calls missed and any other missed notifications. |
Re: Received sms/missed call notification
AFAIK, there's no mod to add that kind of info yet. But, please, correct me if i'm wrong.
You can make a brainstorm with that idea. Hopefully, someone will be interested in developing it. |

I'm going to try and create a widget that combines the notifications in one.
Tonight I got back to my phone to find multiple missed calls, texts and emails (ooh, get me Mr Popular) and it's frustrating, as even though the N900 isn't marketed as a phone, it still has to operate as a phone first and foremost. Attached is what I have in mind, the next calender date, and the number of missed calls (icon changes from blue to red) number of text and emails. I have zero programming knowledge or ability in any language, so I'll be teaching myself from scratch, but seeing as no-one else appears to be working on something similar I guess it sets me a target... |
Re: Received sms/missed call notification
And as you see, I seem to have font matching algorithms switched off in Paint...

Anyone come up with an idea yet to perhaps make this work? |
Re: Received sms/missed call notification
You could probably use Desktop Command Execution Widget to display the results of an sqlite command on the desktop:
Code:
sqlite3 /home/user/.rtcom-eventlogger/el.db "select count(id) from events where event_type_id = 7 and is_read=0"Code:
sqlite3 /home/user/.rtcom-eventlogger/el.db "select count(id) from events where event_type_id = 3"Mind you, this isn't the same as number of alerts (what makes the notification light blink). SMSes in particular I mostly see in the task manager and hit X to close them without reading. Those are still unread will be included in the count. I'll look at the specification to see if there's a better way about this. |
Re: Received sms/missed call notification
Hi there,
sorry - but just saw your screenshot - showing the screenlock. Looks very nice. Where did you download it and what is the app called? Thanks for sharing - and sorry for having no help whatsoever for your topic... sga |

ps: I would still like to see either I have a miss call or text waiting on the unlock screen it doesnot even have to tell me number of missed or number of text waiting. |
Re: Received sms/missed call notification
Is it possible to implement missed calls/tex messages count with yellow notification after operator name? There is couple of centimeters useless space.

Re: Received sms/missed call notification
sounds good

Re: Received sms/missed call notification
I've built a simple python app (my first one ever by the way, yay! :D) that will take the lockslider picture and place another picture over it, which i then write the number of missed calls and text messages based on nex's code (see above). It then saves all this as an image "lockslider.png" in the same folder. So if we can place the script in the theme folder and run it when an sms or call is recieved it will update the lockslider image with the new information. I'll try post it soon, but i'm currently at work with no cable (and mobile internet here is expensive :()
All thats needed now is running the script when needed :D |

Here you go :D Hope it works. Having never developed for linux, I'm not sure if this should work on people's N900's like it does on mine, but hope so. If there are any issues or problems, I'll try to fix them.
Also can someone help me increase the font size? I can't seem to get it any bigger :( Edit: The red parts is to hide my personal details (incase anyone was wondering) |
Re: Received sms/missed call notification
Hello,
we are working on the same projects :) I started a very similar project some days ago ( maenotify ). I'm quite ready to release it, but I still miss how to get the missed calls when the screen is locked and some alignment problem. I didn't see your code but I suppose we are using the same technique. Here is a screenshot: http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/4281/vnca.png Best Regards, Daniele Maio |

Re: Received sms/missed call notification
I hope soon, really soon.
The package is quite ready , I just discovering some problem when you receive an sms and the screen is locked, then the missed sms will not be notified. Once that I fix this issue I will release a first version. |
Re: Received sms/missed call notification
great work! :D

What are you coding this on? It would be amazing to create both. 1- The Widget for the Desktop 2- The Locked Screen Notifications I am personally more interested in the WIDGET though. Omeriko also suggested a Status Area applet that displays the number of notifications, but while his effort is appreciated, if he can join this project that would be much more comprehensive. I really wanna learn QT and do some programming myself! |

Re: Received sms/missed call notification
I just seeing "Call Notify" and it's nice. I think it's in python and, since I'm coding in C/GTK, probably a merge will look hard. BTW I will be glad if omeriko would join this project.
I can make also a desktop widget, but (my thought) if you have your device turned on, then the system notification would be fine enough, am I wrong? |

You are not wrong. The widget just seems like a very clean and elegant way to present the info. For me, I hate the multi-tasking view of missed calls, messages and emails. It is tedious, freezes a lot, and is all over the place. The singular widget for data presentation would be best. If I could cancel the multi-tasking notification thing (when you press multi-tasking and the number of missed calls, emails and messages are each displayed in a separate window) I would do it in a heartbeat. But still, I am starting to get around to your line of thinking and perhaps the locked phone notifications you were originally working on is a more useful thing at the moment. |
Re: Received sms/missed call notification
Amazing!!!

Re: Received sms/missed call notification
any news dbs11???
a did install "Call Notify" but, i like your concept more.... are you going to finish the app, and put it in repo any time soon? cheers! ;) |
Re: Received sms/missed call notification
hmm does both developers stall each other?
