Have you uninstalled the subtitle support? There's been a few posts saying that removing this package breaks media player, so if you have done this, try reinstalling the subtitle support package.

I have a German phone, but im currently in switzerland. No update for me so far with the appmanager.

But i recently have done a apt-get update and apt-get upgrade and some offical packages got upgraded.

but the about dialog still says i have not the 3.2010.02-8 firmeware. :)

It's possible something you've done has removed the core update package - to check whether this is installed, run:
Code:

dpkg -l 'mp-fremantle-*'

yes, search the wiki for flasher - you can flash to the global firmware version whenever you want. (General usual warnings apply - don't forget to backup!)

As I said, I'm aware that I can flash manually. But that sounds like a lot of hassle when really I should be able to press a button and do it OTA.

Also once I've flashed the global firmware what then happens next firmware? Do I have to do it again or will the global firmware now appear in Application Manager?

I'm not that desperate for the firmware, I'm just interested in what the differences are that cause the delay. is this something we can expect to get better/worse as further updates come?

Just a comment on the one who said "I don't want to flash".

Some of us NEED to flash. You might be able to AVOID flashing for awhile, and as a benefit of having avoided it, you may get other problems that you wouldn't have if you had flashed earlier.

In my opinion, in these early days, having experimented a bit and having uncertain situations on our phones because of having installed things of uncertain stablity, we need to be willing and ready to flash.

Flash gets you back to the basics, especially when also flashing eMMC. Not wanting to flash is almost like saying, "I don't want to reboot". Sometimes getting back to a simple setup is the right thing to do. You avoid it at your peril.

I just want to say I have been going crazy trying to figure out the fix and it is something so simple as making sure subtitle support remains installed. thank you so very much for this info. this worked for me. Thank.

Ahhhh if we new that we would have something else to whine in this thread about :D :D - no idea what the differences are.

If you flash now to the global one, your next update will be the global one and so on and so on :)

No idea on the update front..... last time we got it about 7 hours after the rest... this time over 24 hours... could get better and / or worse :D

Flashing as stated above can be a sensible option but is not in any way required :D

This happened a number of days ago to my n900......prior to any update. It was on with a full battery and when i went to use it later it wouldnt respond at all. Only way i got it going again was when i removed the battery and then it restarted.....It has been fine since and was fine before......a little unnerving though.......

you know what's strange..... i had no problems with space on rootfs with my testing-device, which is full with applications from extras and devil.

on my clean, stable, extras- and ovi-only N900 i couldn't install the update first because rootfs was full.

so much for "stay out of -devil" ;)

Just to let you all know in the Uk, the reason its taking so long for the update is because UK is getting some extra features as listed below
  • Video Calling
  • Integrated MMS
  • Ovi 3.3 with Navigation
  • Full call logging
  • Feature rich calender
  • Outlook Mail

I wish!

Not really, no - Nokia have tied them in as a requirement for the core package . If it's space you're after, then you could just delete the files.

Fair enough, good to know if I go the global route via manual flashing it only needs to be done once. That does make it slightly more attractive but I think the UK firmware would need to be delayed a few more days until I can be bothered.

Really I'm just interested in the why, not the when.

Unfortunately the real reason we haven't got the update is that Nokia are not supporting the UK anymore. They (Nokia) say we all moan and whinge far too much so they wont give us anymore firmware ;)

I too can sort of live with a slight delay for a small change like this, but can you imagine reading through the 700 page thread we're likely to see when we have another large upgrade?

Think I might just bite the bullet and flash to a global firmware this afternoon.

Can someone tell me how to do it?

sorry, joke... el oh el?

In the same boat as you - but really - the changelog doesn't make me want to jump ship just yet :D

It was a Macbook, and it was done from the browser, it was the version before Snow Leopard, and they used Safari. Two different friends and it worked fine.

It's probably not that clever to start joking around to a thread full of people waiting for firmware updates.. let alone wasting people's time and putting more useless spam in a thread already full of it and hard enough to read as it is...

And on that note, before someone tells us that the UK firmware update is not availble in <insert UK city, town, or village here>, yes we know. We know you dont have it, because the rest of us dont have it either. There's no need to update us until you DO have it.

Neither the UK Nokia unlocked or Vodafone specific versions of the update have been released yet. Once they are released someone will say so (hopefully not crying wolf this time). We'll all be able to update then, and hopefully the thread will remain spam free for for helping people who might be having problems following their upgrade.

Hi guys - sorry if I'm being a bit thick here, or missing the jokes or whatever, but I am in the UK and got the phone sim free from the Nokia Online shop, and my update appeared around midnight last night and all installed fine. So it arrived in my town! Unless due to some other random Nokia mistake (I've had several already), maybe I have a global phone?!?! (Or I've just missed the jokes - I'm sure I've read that other UK people on here downloaded it before me, but I was reading that late last night!).

Re: New N900 firmware 3.2010.02-8 released today (16 Feb)

You don't have to wait for anything to 'arrive' as such, it's just to visit the application manager and do an update. And there it'll be waiting.

There's something changed in the music player.
When you're playing a song and tap on the DJ Desk, and selecting a other song you have to tap it 2 times. 1 time = stop playing music, 2 times= playing the song

Please go into "Settings->About phone" and let us know the version number of the phone you have. It will help us know if you have a UK unlocked or global phone, and then we'll have to wonder why the rest of us are waiting for our update :)

Edit: beaten, what Rob1n said ^^

Hush you, arnoldthebadegg! :)

You have all the humour of an episode of Eastenders.

Semiloose, did you try restarting the indexer tracker? You can find details to do so on here or on the vodafone forum. I don't imagine the new update is going to change much on that end, you should be able to see the media files now. Restart it and let it index them again, see if it works.

The latest version is 3.2010.02-8 (which I assume is what you got told, as there's not been a 2.2010 version), which certainly isn't available OTA here yet, though it may be available in NSU (I've not checked).
