I hope Wes is right about them combining the two updates - the last big one depended on the small one that preceded it. :(

will keep you updated, have to admit the flashing process so far has been very easy - wasn't expecting it to be so smooth and simple.

The question i've got is.... what do i need to do after to get the device back to the way it was! hehe, was strange seeing an empty desktop! - but my calendar and contacts didn't get wiped :) - wohoOo!

Win7 64bit won't work properly, but using XP Mode within it (by booting xp mode, plugging the phone in into flasher mode, then assigning the N900 device that's detected to the XP mode instance) will work fine.

just a thought...if they merge two updates as suggested will more space be needed on root to complete successfully or will the original 42 (answer to life, universe and everything) do ?

Developing an app to do a health check.... running it on the new firmware... ooooo my front cam has stopped working!!! lol.....
Good the app works... bad the front cam isn't!!

No PC suite is needed, the flasher tool includes the connectivity cable driver needed for the machine to connect the phone properly.
Install / load XP mode > download flasher tool > install > plug in phone with u pressed > give the machine a few secs for the host system to pick it up > select "USB" from the XP mode VPC instance's menu > tick the "N900 (Recovery Mode)" or similar device name > XP instance detects it, and if you have the flasher tool already loaded, will pick it straight up and run.

Can anyone help me and write how to invert these commands?

mv /usr/share/themes /home/opt/themes2
ln -s /home/opt/themes2 /usr/share/themes

I did it to make more space in roots and now after every reboot my phone is in basic theme.
I tried to do
mv /home/opt/themes2 /usr/share/themes
ln -s /usr/share/themes /home/opt/themes2

but of course it doesnt work. I know I shouldn't do that but I did and now I need some help.

Thanks in advance
kriss

It should be:
Code:

rm /usr/share/themes
mv /home/opt/themes2 /usr/share/themes

I would spare myself the drive if I were you. I'm currently in South Korea with a UK (203) N900 and not getting anything here either

Hi, I could not find an answer on this one, so I ask this here:

Did you have considerably more battery drainage than before installing 1.1.1?

My batteries now last no more than 14 hours while it used to be 22 hours. I did not change my habits in using my N900.

Any ideas??

Sorry if this was asked before.!

Kathy, I forgot to add that I did ask if I need the minor update before I could receive the major one, and the guy (who at least made me think he knew what he was talking about from this reply...) said, 'Not this time. The last update did need the minor one first before the major release, but you will be fine receving the new one'
Fingers crossed he wasn't just fobbing us off!! haha

Some people have complained about this, others have reported batteries lasting longer since the update.

While we're all waiting, there's only 1 thing holding back the inevitable flash:

if I backup and flash, will I still have my tags in my photos when I restore?

I gave in and flashed the global FW and I was suprised that I still had my calendar settings, bookmarks etc and only had to download my apps again.

(Sorry, sarcasm filter is failing...... )

When I last came here, there were 90 so pages, now there are 119. Since I don't have a working pc at the moment (monitor is faulty), I have to do all my browsing on the n900.

I don't know if it's just my device, but this forum is very hard to navigate. The navigational bar to the right blocks off half the screen so when I was on say page 96, I couldn't click on the next page as it was behind the navigational bar. To access this page, I had to exit the thread, view the list of threads on this forum and then click LAST PAGE. I did read back a few pages but didn't find anything relevant to my question, just complaints about battery life which was why I asked...

It's not the browser that's at fault in this case, it's the site. Some of the other themes work better with the N900 (but don't look as good).

Pretty painless procedure really. I only lost my startup video and the theme changed, otherwise everything's back to normal. The backup app works like a dream.

I realise the update is not that important, but I'm pretty sure the next one will be and I don't want to be hanging round for days (weeks/months?) for Nokia to get off their collective backsides and release a UK specific version.

Thank you! Followed your steps and it went perfect! you rock:D

For those browsing on the n900, switch to one of the 'classic' themes. You will lose the 'new posts#' box altogether, but see all of the page. :)

Mine went from needing a charge around noon after 5 hours of low use to lasting all day after this update. Ofcourse it could also be that one of the apps I uninstalled to make room for it was draining my battery. I have yet to look into that.

Like many others, I got fed up of waiting for the UK-specific variant and flashed as per the instructions - I don't want to be last in the queue for firmware updates (had similar experience with N95, so used global variant for that too). No probs so far!

Would Nokia get pissy if i go from uk 203 to global 205? If a problem arises can it be reflashed back to 203?

You can easily reflash back, yes. Why would you want to change though? The 205 firmware isn't any more available than the 203.
