Registered at Meego?

so has anyone else registered at Meego? And am I the only one that is surprised by the lack of any REAL info on there?

Registered yesterday. Browsing the user list it looked like so did many others. The site should really host some kind of Talk equivalent though and soon :P

Yep, I've registered and signed up to some lists and whatnot.

Re: Registered at Meego?

Yes I registered as soon as the news hit. It's a really good way to follow the developers', both Maemo based ones and Moblin ones, discussion re e.g. RPM vs DEB etc.

I think Quim Gil displays a lot of wisdom in his posts over there. This think will be history a year from now, things will settle down, we will all learn and adapt in the process.

There's also an explanation o'er there that the reason for picking the Moblin as foundation is its tailored to run across many platforms, whereas Maemo had been optimised to run on Nokia's existing and planned hardware platforms only.

Furthermore there are statements to the effect that it will be the best of both worlds, and that they honestly and truthfully believe so. There is an effort to show there is no hidden agenda, and a lot of good effort to tear down any barriers between different p-o-w. For the most part, at least.

Registered yesterday evening and subscribed to the dev list.
I guess the lack of info is kind of expected, though it doesn't help.

Registered and threatening to joing their community working group. That'd knock the whole idea on the head! The Moblin people would run screaming into the night. ;)

Didn't find it. Can you provide a link to this part? Thanks.

Yep, yesterday. Why wouldn't you?

Re: Registered at Meego?

I mean for something thats seems to be a big deal between two big companies, there should be more there. More than just a pic of an N900 on the homepage and some stuff about Meego will be this or that. Maybe some insight into the UI or pics or something. It kinda caught us off guard here right? but this had to have been in the works since they started shipping out N900's. Somebody has to have some kinda scoop.

It may be their way of trying to coordinate the 'merge'.

Please do join the working group. The rest of the people who have volunteered over there are pretty technical. The group definitely needs a healthy end user perspective.

I suspect all the DEB vs RPM noise has them halfway there already.

Re: Registered at Meego?

No scoop.
It is just pretty impossible to have community content on a site that was just revealed.

The point of having a pretty empty site is that now it can be built by the community for the community.

Well, if you think I can be useful, I will sign up. I'm a bit short on time this spring, but I suppose I can't sit here and grouch about the user community not being included unless I'm willing to put my paw up and be counted.

Re: Registered at Meego?

I know the community part is empty and will come, but Meego just didnt pop up out of the ground a day or two ago. Maybe I'm too impatient. oh well, guess we can just hop on the Meego train and ride it out. I'm in, but hopefully the Meego train wont stop for trolls!

Well, the meego.com servers are certainly much faster that the maemo.org ones :-)

True. Less people, less active content and Linux Foundation to host it. That should equate to lightning speeds :)

I'd sign up if I could. My meego login doesn't seem to extend to the wiki, and I'm not sure how I can gain access to that...

(it's maemo.org sso all over again! :p)

You need to validate your email before you can edit anything. It's... complicated. But let's face it, us maemo.org people are experts at negotiating log-in hurdles. ;)

(Look for a tiny link on the wiki edit telling you what to do)

I did validate the email. Still can't figure it out. If I follow the wiki link for registration I get a page that says Access Denied.

This is just a joke, to test your faith in Maemo. This will make sure that non-believers leaving this forum to register for ding ding forum :)

I used recover password to get around log-in problems. After new password things started to work. Not sure what kind of server-voodo was involved.

Them Moblin people might need some shock therapy from endusers.

I signed up to the work-group. So they will either have to 'fess up that they don't want end-users or deal with us from day one. ;)

I believe the value of Intel stocks just took a nose dive...

you get the "access" denied page when you sign up (successfully). if you look at the top right of the page, it shows youre signed in anyway. "access denied" is their greeting banner or such.

Well, it's a showstopper for me, because I can't edit the wiki.

Go to your profile. Re-enter your email address, and make any other changes you fancy, and hit save. See what happens - I got another validation email, after which I was able to edit the wiki. By then I'd lost the page, of course...

Don't give up here Texrat! This is the first test of determination. ;)

Who is this "they"? ;-)

The only thing I'm concerned about, with the volume of the Maemo community, is so utterly swamping the (relatively) small Moblin community that the MeeGo community has no chance to form.

Given there are so many outstanding questions to decide (which are partially driven from technical matters like N900 and N8x0 backports) like whether maemo.org continues to exist as a separate entity for Maemo <6, it's worth getting stuff right.

Re: Registered at Meego?

For now I've decided to stay out of it. Harmattan will still be .deb-based as far as I understand, so I'll stay with maemo.org up to that and then move away when Meego goes all .rpm. It's unlikely I'll join in on any package format discussions that may occur, that's mostly a waste of energy - I simply move away if it doesn't fit me.

We're working on something to enable using your maemo.org account at MeeGo via OpenID.

My turn to ask:

I've been busy with other things since registering at Meego.com and I'm getting the developer mails, but I'm not getting any mails from my subcription to the meego-community mail.

Are there really no mails in the community?

I've got a Welcome mail to the list, and my Meego account shows I'm subscribing to the community mail.
