These kind of threads are absolute bull***!

Considering the events over the past few weeks the n900 has a very bright future - If you don't what I mean then use the search box.

The people that seem to complain about the n900 even now are the people that constantly upgrade thier PC so they can stay "cutting edge".

You know the type:
"Waaaghhh! I just bought my PC. It has a 2.5 GHz processor. I just found out a new processor came out and it's 2.6 GHz but my motherboard is incompatible...Waaagggh (spits out dummy an throws toys out of pram)"

What is this elite PC used for?
Surfing the Internet, listening to music, watching videos and maybe a few games. (I'm being generous!)

These type of people seem to harbour an insecurity and must have the latest version of anything. Their elite PC is useless otherwise!

I know the n900 is not perfect and has some bugs but it is the first "smartphone" I have actually wanted!

Being happy with your device is a state of mind and not down to the manufacturer to wipe the drool from your mouth when you decide you are not happy with it.

My n900 is now invaluable to me - I use it for so many things!

I have a Linux computer in my pocket and yes I am pleased to see you!

If you have a genuine criticism about the n900 that's OK post away and we will have an intelligent debate. Mind you it's been done to death though.

For the record my criticism of the n900 is no host mode for the usb port and no reliable way to connect keyboard & mouse to it.

Apart from that I am extremly happy with my n900 - I use it for all sorts of things on a daily basis.

So please I'm begging everyone to stop posting pointless negative threads about the n900 - it's becoming very, very boring.

We haven't had PR 1.1.1 yet, which is a prerequisite for PR1.2. I was just having a moan about being left behind when everyone else is discussing how much better the device is for the update. There's no official source - the wiki just says "Not released yet" for PR1.1.1UK.

Don't mind me, I'm just grumbling.

Inability to load your top up card and check your credit due to not being able to dial numbers starting with # or *. I would have thought that would be a very important element of a gsm device.

MeeGo changes absolutely nothing for Maemo 5 and N900. If anything, MeeGo's goals are the same as Mer's goals, which should make it easier for the community to install MeeGo on N900...

Heck, even Maemo 6 will still not be MeeGo it would seem. (And Maemo6 was never promised on N900)

Use the global image instead of the UK one? :-)
Hmm, wiki? Some 3rd party page created by $someone? :-)

wrong. my telco provided me with the equivalent voice numbers for all those tasks, since it is them who are actually required to do so. Remember that a pots phone connected to a rural gsm system is a GSM device.

If your telco sucks, then... sorry. Mine does too.

Well, the OTA update hasn't arrived in the UK yet, so I'm assuming that that's where the wiki is sourced from.

I don't honestly fancy doing it the 'hard way' with the flasher if I can possibly help it.

yes, esp recently, not only this one, look at some of those usb port threads, lots of 'just registered' claim their usb was broke(no offence to anyone whose port really broke)

The people using UK firmware version can reflash Global version, or whine to Nokia Care. Actually, the coolest thing would be if UK users upset about the slowness of the almost non-existant variants team would start a thread to coordinate a call-nokia-care day. Imagine if everyone upset picked the same day to call Nokia Care.

Usb problem doesnt seem to of affected my device yet. i have had my phone since before christmas and i have been having to charge it every night "which is understandable because of the power of the device" you would think with the uploading of my music collection and files thro usb and the charging every night it would have.

Makes me think maybe sum people are to ruff with there usb port. i mean i no some times i just yank it out.

[edit] i love my n900 i have neva had a "smartphone / phone" like it. i would never go back either. they have pushed so many boundrys with this phone how can you talk badly.

a list of a few things i love.

fm transmitter in the uk - i thought this was illigal

voip - pritty sure most other phones dont allow voip over gsm

open sourced - everything is changable if you have the know how

DOOM / duke nukem 3d / quake 3 - u can play doom on your phone :O

its like a pc in my pocket and i couldn't live without it now. not only is it a pc its linux.

NO TO THE RECALL!

Re: Should N900 be recalled by Nokia from a market ?

Espoo, Finland—-Nokia officials issued a massive recall of the entire N900 line Tuesday, apologizing for a quality-control oversight that led to the company manufacturing a badass mobile computer that was way too awesome for the American public. "We deeply regret this lapse in judgment and accept full responsibility for the mistake," Nokia CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo said holding a gorgeous, black gadget recalled for being "way too smoking." "After numerous road tests, we've found the device to be a mean, mean ride that Americans are simply not cool enough to handle, and it would be irresponsible of us to allow anyone to get behind the keyboard of this killer device. It's truly frightening how sweet the N900 is." According to Kallasvuo, Nokia has canceled production on the next maemo device, and will instead release a line of iPhone like devices in an effort to appeal to boring old Americans.
