Reasons for my N900 Micro-SDHC mount failure
I have been having so much fun with streaming media (qtify, spotify, @scene, france24, flash-based stuff) that I hadn't tried moving my music onto my N900. The fastest way to do should be to move the 16Gb Micro-SDHC that's been in my N810 via an adapte, but the N900 doesn't recognize the flash chip when I insert it. Or any others, I've tried 5 now. These VFAT formatted flash chips work in other devices like my N810 and E71.
A quick "dpkg -l | grep mount" turned up a package called ke-recv which evidently supports mounting removable media. Forcing a reinstall of this package hasn't helped. Other than a completely non-functional micro-SDHC slot, what are the possible explanations? I am not putting them in upside down, or anything simple like that... |

Connect N900 to pc, insert micro sd into PC and then transfer?

What's the sensor/interlock that checks if the back is on? A bad sensor could explain this problem, and maybe I could override it. Are you certain that the back cover is required for the memory card to be mounted? The manual (http://nds1.nokia.com/phones/files/g...N900_UG_en.pdf) says to put the cover back on, like a reasonable person would do. It *doesn't* say anything explicit about the back cover being required for the mount. |

I don't know what's up so all I can suggest is the usual: Have you ran a dmesg and noticed any error messages when inserting the card? |

Re: Reasons for my N900 Micro-SDHC mount failure
This seems very similar to the problem that I recently encountered.
I first noticed that my camera was failing to fire when I opened the lens cover/slider. I checked dmesg, and i could see that it wasn't a software problem related to a dodgy package - the camera shutter changes were being correctly logged (cam_shutter), and the problem persisted after reflashing. I then also noticed that none of my external cards (that were previously working) could be mounted by my device. I wondered if they could be related... So, I popped into Vodaphone, and tested another back cover, and lo and behold, the camera and card started working again...the fault was positively confirmed to be with the back cover. I suspect there is a sensor of some sort embedded in kickstand of the back cover that has become displaced or faulty. I would suggest that you check if the camera software fires when you open the lens cover, and test with another N900 back cover if possible. |
