fast browser, with pictures

I compiled "links" web browser, "with" graphics support

You start it from xterm

links -g google.com
or
links -g cnn.com

I know its not full featured, but its fast and stable. hopefully someone will find it usefull, I did..... Unfortunately you need a hardware keyboard to type, but if you just want quick read, its handy, though large :) Have fun!!

Ah, nice.. I was just about to start working on lynx, but I'll try your links build instead. What I want it for is as a browser to use with phone/GPRS, going text-only is the best way to keep the amount of data (and thus the cost) reasonable. (I'm assuming links also have the ability to not load images automatically, like lynx)

Yes, no " -g"

There is a package available, somewhere (app catalogue 2006, i think), its smaller, than mine, at almost 5mb, but no graphics support...
I Need my pictures ;)

If I'm not mistaken, doesn't Opera have an option not to load images?

Thanks, I use wget, scp, ssh etc via xterm to remotely work on my N800. Links means I get to use a full sized keyboard even more often. Are there any folks/webpages where the typical linux command lines tools compiled for the N800 are gathered together? Screen is what I miss the most but I've been unable to find a working copy and I have not figured out how to compile for the N800 yet.

Would you like your milk served warm in a baby bottle also? GOOGLE & READ! Joking... actually... brilliant idea. I wish I had thought about it myself.

It's actually not an original idea. http://rudix.org/ is a site where a command line "distro" of sorts is compiled and maintained for OS X. It's a really nice way to linuxify a Mac. Something similar for the Nokias would be nice. I've hosed my scratchbox install twice now so I doubt I'll be doing any cross compiling anytime soon.

MUD-Builder is designed for this sort of thing. I expect a links package would be trivial to set up in it.

Thanks, that page has a list of most of the command line programs I want.

Seeing as penguinbait's links are dead (cough), i took a stab at compiling my own version of links2.

This version has javascript, graphics and mouse (for stylus tapping on links). It's fairly compact at 3.4MB and very resource thrifty - 0% cpu while idling and never more than 51% loading a page, with at most 14% memory consumption (in testing so far).

Grab it here.

I hate to reply to my own post, but this could be a decent alternative on -th- go if we had a decent vkbd that was hideable

I got xvkbd compiled but as yet have no way to minimize it .. i emailed the author - maybe he can add a window minimizer that will reduce it to a bar at the bottom.
