Also having problems here :( application starts but then crashes out plus the N900 then gets a little slow and so far only a reboot seems to correct that.

As it only sends.... not the easiest... but will definitley look into it!

Suggestion: put a message up on screen something like "Use an infra-red sensor (or most digital camera sensors) to check IR bulb output" while you turn it on (maybe for a few seconds, or tap to turn it on/off in a dialog, or flash it for a while).

I haven't been able to get mine to show any output yet, via either of the Qtirreco/Irreco for N900/"shutter" widget. Worried its broken... Is there a low level access to it?

Today I still encountered the same problem, but got it installed after installing python-gobject from the command line.

Now healthcheck is installed, but it crashes a few seconds after starting it, doesn't draw any window. [Edit: well, it draws a black window and the name appears in the titlebar and the thing next to the name is swirling for a few seconds] :(

What's the name to use to start it from the terminal? (healthcheck: not found)

edit2: Maybe this hasn't got anything to do with my problem, since starting it this way doesn't draw the black screen and the name in the titlebar , but here's what running healthcheck.py says:
Code:

/home/opt/healthcheck # python healthcheck.py
** Start Imports **
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "healthcheck.py", line 43, in <module>
    import hildon
ImportError: No module named hildon

Heya, sorry for the delay in replying :( - was away yesterday.

In Terminal Please can you try:
(You need rootsh installed)

Code:

sudo gainroot
apt-get install python-hildon
exit
python /opt/healthcheck/healthcheck.py

horza, please can you try the same, and paste out any terminal output/how far you get??

In x-terminal
Code:

python /opt/healthcheck/healthcheck.py
I'm pretty sure that the slowness/battery eating isn't healthcheck - unless it's caught in a loop?... it does nothing after load, unless you ask it too?! so tis very odd.

Re: [Annouce] HealthCheck - Hardware/System checker for the N900

Just a quick update of where i am at, at present.

There are a bundle of new features i am working on, i will put a few new releases into extras-devel - but not send anything into testing until PR1.2 comes out - as i will need to sort out the version numbers.

So far included and working are:
  • LED Pattern selector
  • Vibrate Pattern selector
  • Sound Test selector

To be added soon:
  • More space / disk information
  • Proximity checker
  • Dead pixel screen test
  • Bluetooth information checker
  • More detailed accelerometer and GPS Info
  • SQL Info - if i can (Amount of SMS data etc) - not sure on this one yet.
  • External IP addresses
  • Better graphics / ease of use
  • Individual updates + constant reads - such as accelerometer data.

I'm still interested to hear of any other information.

For those having issues on install, the software does call on alot of modules on installation. This is because it is trying to test alot of things.
I have added quite thorough debugging into the programme, and i'm adding even more!
To get to the debugging, go in x-terminal (On every device)
type

Code:

python /opt/healthcheck/healthcheck.py
The program will then dump the debug lines into x-terminal, you can then paste it into here, or screenshot it (CTRL+SHIFT+P) and upload the image as an attachment.

When i get home tonight i will list all of the extra modules used and hopefully how to recify any possible issues, like gobject and hildon issues.

Secondly, there have been two people mentioning a battery drain with healthcheck, obviously i would like to prove either way, and have run my own tests... so far it hasn't happenned to me... So it could be device/dependency specific.
Running conky at the same time(or htop) should help you identify any other issues.

Anyway, happy healthchecking, and will update you all with a shiny new version for testing soon!
:D
