u don't need to get ur program launch like that for using the neowpn dekstop icon or menu icon just go to terminal in n900 and typing that:

sudo gainroot
chmod +x /usr/bin/neopwn.sh
chmod +x /usr/bin/neopwn

and now its great no crash when u launch with the program icon ;)

for who not having the files for installing the beta i can upload it ... just tell me ??

why wanna upload it cause it's very very very beta beta only have injection and metasploit (metasploit can run without neopwn in n900 and paying 40 $ just for the injection it's not like what im thinking about OPEN SOURCE so .........

The guy who is behind this project has incurred costs (paying a driver developer) - the idea of the donations is to help cover the costs. Once he has covered his costs and the project is a little more advanced, then it will be released to those who do not feel they can donate at this stage. Any more questions, try neopwn.com ;)

If you don't feel you got value for what you paid, I'd suggest getting in contact with the developer to discuss your dissatisfaction with him. The idea of uploading code to be freely available just because you don't think it's worth what you paid is disgraceful. All you're doing is harming development. I hope you will feel ashamed and rethink your actions :(

Personally I haven't ordered the beta as it's not that important to me right now. If it was, I wouldnt mind donating. If you are serious about pen testing I don't think $40 is excessive, especially if the problem of the injection driver is solved. From what we understand it cost the developer a lot to jump that hurdle, whatever your idea of "open source" is. I think if you don't understand that and don't want to help with these costs then you shouldn't really be ordering this beta at all in the first place.

Which begs the question for those with the beta, how well does the injection driver work? is it the real deal? :)

badfusion, your offer is tempting, simply because packet injection = awesome.

But my ethics lead me to discourage you from doing it. I don't really like the developer's approach to this, but as I said in other posts, I believe in giving people the benefit of the doubt - and so far, I feel more on his side than on the side of most people who b!tched in the first ten-twenty pages of this thread about his missed initial delivery date.

At any rate, I do wish he just open sourced what he's working on currently from the get-go. But now that he hasn't, you breaking an implicit promise (which you DO implicitly make when you pay for inclusion in the private beta - there may have been no legal terms to call you on it, but morally it is there) isn't that much better. By buying access to the private beta, or 'donating enough to be granted access to the private beta', however you want to word that, you are presenting yourself as someone who in good faith intends to keep the private beta private. Even if you don't accept that premise, it's still against the wishes of the person from who you're getting the program(s)+driver, and since his wishes are not too inherently unethical, I personally thing going against them by uploading the stuff puts you in the moral wrong.

Hoggerz says he's been able to send deauth packets (as in for deauthorizing a client connected to a network). Based on what he said (I myself am not an expert) this means that at least some injection is working. Whether or not all of it is working, or not, is another matter, but if it's working at all, then it should be a matter of time before it works in every application.

yes, without neopwn work fine:
metasploit, sslstrip, nmap, netcat, ettercap, wireshark, tor, aircrack(not injection)

and with neopwn:
ettercap, netcat, aircrack(not injection) and wireshark

n900=free
neopwn=40$

Got to say I'm a little disappointed about neopwn so far as I thought there would be a lot more activity. I'm personally still waiting for my SD card to turn up, fingers crossed it'll be today, then I'll be giving it it a go. :)

finally neopwn running, but monitor mode doesnt work, i installed the 3 debs on step 8, but when trying airmon:

As I mentioned earlier, the licensing situation of the new wlan driver is unclear -- it seems to me (from the description) that it's derived from a GPL-licensed driver, and thus not redistributable except as permitted under the GPL (i.e. with source code included, and under the same license, thus permitting further redistribution.)

However, two rights don't make a wrong, and if the patch is not explicitly released under the GPL or a compatible license, distributing the combination doesn't magically relicense the patch under the GPL, it just means that distribution of a patched driver is copyright infringement, legally exactly the same as "pirating" commercial warez. Similarly, further distribution of the patched driver is equally unlawful -- the GPL doesn't and can't grant you any right to redistribute, since it doesn't apply to the patch, so again, this is exactly the same as sharing warez.

Simply put, it's not "OPEN SOURCE", so what you expected of open source is irrelevant.


Now all that's not to say "don't do it", or to claim that it's necessarily morally wrong (opposed to legally wrong) to do so. I'm quite aware that some people consider copyright laws completely invalid, or at least feel no moral compunction about breaking them, and I've no interest in holy-warring for either side here. Just be aware that that's what you're discussing (and that doing so is probably a violation of these boards' .terms of service, FWIW).

normally i would love to donate for such a project, but with all the delays, misinformations, etc. i'm more than careful.

in a bad world i would like to have a copy for own researches too, but this isn't a bad world, right?

Both the AP's are mine
one using WEP and one with WPA2

both are about 2 - 3 meters away, also tried moving about so the distances are different

Perhaps it is too soon, but from reading past comments it seems that:

- Nobody has reported to be able to successfully and consistently inject (which doesn't imply it is not working, as I think lxp word has a well deserved credit).

- Nobody has reported a full suite of pentesting tools included. Which looks very strange to me as there's lots of tools that compile RIGHT AWAY under maemo, ie: BTcrack, bt_audit-0.1.1, kismet, amap, foremost-1.5.7, john-1.7.6, karma-0.4, icmpchat-0.7, carwhisperer, macchanger, sleuthkit-3.1.3, strace-4.5.18, socat-2.0.0-b4, wlandecrypter-0.6, weplab-0.1.5, btscanner-2.1, p0f, redfang-2.5, scalpel-1.60, SIPcrack, xprobe2-0.3, frontline, bdaddr, hydra-5.4... and many more...

I was expecting NeoPwn to include all of them, among others that would require a bit more effort to port, in a well organised (BackTrack style) way. Perhaps I was expecting too much or is it that noone has really dig much into it?

Would anyone be so kind as to give a more comprehensive report on what is included in the beta release so that the rest can do an informed decision before blindly donating?

I've really had very little time to explore this and won't have for a couple weeks - aireplay test confirms injection working but I have had no luck with my attempts. Lots of dead links & "Coming Soon" through the rest of Neopwn, but then it is beta 0.1.

It's sad that the chap behind the project appeears to be keeping so quiet about it - not suggesting that he be expected to answer support questions, just think that he should consider engaging with this board a little more.

How did you configure the init file for multiboot.

It seems not to boot at all with my setting.

I didn't in the end and just uninstalled multiboot instead. It seemed to work okay but each time multiboot tried to flash the power40-wl1 kernel, it would go dead and not switch on anymore without immediatley switching off after a few seconds. So I had to reflash the maemo kernel with the USB cable to be able to boot. Not sure whats wrong with it

Still not having much luck with injection apart from WPA deauth and handshake capture, although once it did say 3% on injection test in GrimWEPA. Might be my wireless ap though.
