How many N900 hardware versions out there.
 

Does anyone knows how many different hardware versions are out there of the N900 ?

I am talking HARDWARE, not operating system or firmware versions which, of course, there are several.

Are there documented differences (or fixes or improvements) of each version ?

Which one is the latest ? Are those versions zone/region related ?

Don't know if this is valid...but here it goes: Which one is the recommended/desired to (hopefully) get when buying a new N900 ?

This question, of course, goes hand in hand with my new N900 checkup list question.

Interesting opinion: why? Because there are documented issues with the USB port (fragility) and, there are also comments that "this has been fixed by Nokia" on some new units...so, if this is true, that could be a "new" hardware revision (version)....

mine is one of the originals 1801 unfortunately i cant update the sofware

Production models, sold ever since they started shipping (of course there are different batches, but they have the same HW revision afaik)
Preproduction models given out to testers and during the Maemo Summit.

I am guessing that the combination of being version 1801 and unable to update indicates the mentioned pre-production units, which you won't encounter on a day to day basis.

Retail units have had no significant hardware revisions (corrections to secure the USB port are relatively minor.)

the hardware board i think is RX-51 - (i keep saying this, sorry! ) - the healthcheck app i'm working on displays that :) - but you can also get it out of terminal someway....

What it doesn't do is say any hardware revisions if there are any.

Implemented Hardware revision number into the new Healthcheck applications so it shows the RX51 number and the sub revision :)

In extras devel now - will push to testing by tomorrow, if there are no issues between now and then.

V0.5.2-5 - has it in....

And, it occurs to me to add: when did you get our N900? and
where/how did you buy it (online or brick and mortar, country)?

That we we may be able to track some patterns on the N900's...maybe.

just asking the same thing on Mirc - seems the consensus (GenralAntilles) thinks there is only a few protos and normal.
Anyway, could merrit people posting it when they get time to test

I just got mine a few days ago from Amazon US, & it's an RX-51 revision 2101. Thanks for the HealthCheck app, noobmonkey; it's handy!

That's interesting, so's the one I have here but it's one of the "pre-production" units loaned at the Amsterdam summit.

Alternatively, "sysinfo-tool -g /device/hw-version" or "sysinfo-tool -g /component/hw-build".

I have the "fading problem" (maemo bug: 6063) And we think it's a hardware bug, so you guys might have this sooner or later too.... :p

As I have met a fair share of N900-es it seems they were all 2101 at least from the summit onwards, BUT there *were* differences with regard to the finish. For example my DDP N900 has matte buttons, but the one a friend bought in a local brick-and-mortar shop had (slightly) shiny ones (both are English layout kbds). Will try to take a snap of the two side by side when we meet again.

It seems, that I've a new hardware revision.
Mine N900 reports 2204 as hardware revision.

Anybody knows something about this revision?

2101 here , got it from NewEgg Canada in december

guys i used xterm code and it also show interesting info about cpu, mine is revision 3, i wonder what others have and couls that affect overclocking capacity ? any thoughts?

Also, I have a friend that bought one from Romania a month or two ago and the keyboard is very different. Buttons are more matte (mine are shinier) and there is less light visible between them. Still has the lower bar under the keyboard loose.

Still LCD spots and haze, I think those are universal. OTOH, my spots are only visible on a certain illumination level. For example, no spots on boot, with 5/5 lighting.

Can anyone clarify as to what is the difference between the various hardware revisions? Right now, the known ones are 2101 and 2204.
