Oh, this starts all types of wrong. I know a little bit about horses. Horses doesn't like to be dragged into stuff they're not comfortable with, new stuff. They want to do things in their own speed, when they've looked at something from as many angles as they need to. And if you try to push a horse into a horse transport, you're tough out of luck. You have to let it go in there when they're ready. Much like me. What I want to do, is minimize the stress you feel, and yet lure you into reporting bugs, voting on brainstorms, etc, without noticing you're leaving your comfort zone. if you don't have to stop at each of these points, you may pass them more easily without ever stopping to think "do I want to start using bugzilla". When you feel like describing a bug, you should be able to do so without crossing a bridge. Trying to convince someone to sign up to a mailing list is, from my experience at school, much like a chore. You don't want to be spending your free time doing chores you don't need to. However, tell people that there's more interesting information about Meego on the mailing lists, and the mailing lists change from a chore, to a carrot. But yet, you may still stop up and think, do I really want to do this? If all you needed to do was check a checkbox in your settings, [v] subscribe to the developers mailing list, [v] subscribe to the counsil mailing list, it won't seem as natural to think "do I really want to do this?"... You just try out a setting, for a while. So, as today you can adjust what level of information/involvement you want to be on. But with a single sign on, integrated graphical user interface, it should feel more like forming an information stream than subscribing to new web sites/services. |

The Maemo sphere is broken up into three sections: maemo.nokia.com, Maemo @ Forum Nokia, and maemo.org. Only one of these sections is intended to provide support to pure end-users, and it aint maemo.org. Quote:

I think that is splitting hairs.
Who knows, if Bob joined maemo.org at the first day he got his N900 or 3 weeks after? Maybe he was only reading unregistered first, and then after registering he could provide immediately help for "less-skilled" members, because he have had read so much. But in the end it doesn't make a difference how we have to deal with new users: Quote:

I'd support a system that automatically refused the re-use of a username existing in one part of the system from being registered in another unless it was by the same person. But I do still appreciate some value to being actually made to do something before I can access all areas just because I registered to a forum. |

However, maemo.org has Terms of Use Privacy Policy Contribution Guidelines that read as though maemo.org is a Nokia website and of course the domain name is still property of Nokia Domain Name Registration . So maybe you meant to say "hands off"? And maybe we can explore Texrat's thought to free up maemo.org? http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...6&postcount=47 |
