Re: N900 Video focus and led light, python script

thanks - installed over previous version no problem, the timer is a great addition to an already very useful app. comments:

1) the font for the selectable delays is very small if you have bad eyesight (like me!) - any chance you could up it slightly in next version?

2) in case it's not obvious to others, there is a "0 second" timer value offered that causes the camera to take a picture immediately, but under touch screen control rather than via hardware button - seem to recall someone asking recently on the forum about a workaround for a faulty camera button, so this is the very thing (off now to try and find the post that asked for it & link to here ...)

Re: N900 Video focus and led light, python script

thank you for your information. ive installed this app, but it doesn't work properly. it always jumps to x terminal and says "type X to terminate the script". any idea how should i solve this issue?

I'll see what I can do about that.

Re: (Live Focus) N900 Video focus and led light, python script

lfocus_0.514-2
Added the timer to the widget to make it easy to take pictures/videos without using hardware buttons.

Re: N900 Video focus and led light, python script

thank you very much. I've finally figured out how to use it by reading your instruction :). this app is definitely a great application which can be perceived as a workaround for part of hardware camera button! besides, it also offer ways to customize the way to take picture (auto-focus off). however, i met a problem, my faulty camera button doesn't work well for half-press, so, i might get the timer section successful one time out of 8 times trying :(. if this app could function by touch screen only? and if it is possible to keep auto-focus option in this app? sorry for the trouble, i hope i'm not asking too much :).

download the latest version and you can access the timer from the widget itself by clicking on the clock icon, as for the autofocus option I might add it in a later release
cheers :D

excellent (& quick!!) work once again, works a treat - and thanks also for upping the font size on the timers :-)

m2cm2c I have folowed everything up until installing ifocus

1. when I try to install from Xterm window, I dont know the path which is N95card01/Downloads/ifocus_0.514-2_all.deb

2. when I tap on file in File Manager it says "Select application" where I choose "App manager" which then opens --- but just sits there and nothing happens.

I get a scary clicking sound from the lens when i manually adjust the focus.. Kinda like its doing something it shouldnt be..

am I just being paranoid or is the same for everyone?.. would it damage the hardware with use?

ehehe....I`ve asked the same question when this software came out....It`s not a problem at all....the lense is just readjusting itself.

Re: N900 Video focus and led light, python script

Doesn't seem to work for me, installed the lfocus_0.514-2_all.deb, also rebooted, but nothing shows up, nor do the shortcut keys work.
Now I should read last few pages and find answer and ponder why I posted this.

E: Updated from the application manager, now it works.

Re: N900 Video focus and led light, python script

Feedback :

Installation :
1. Downloaded
2. Trasferred to phone over wifi using filezilla sftp://...
3. in Xterminal : dpkg -i ...
4. Installed in 5 seconds.
5. Rebooted.
6. All working. (Open camera lens, out of fullscreen - icons are there.)

Usage :
1. The timer and 3 dots bar looks a little cramped, like it's getting cut off.
2. It is still usable though.
3. The built in timer should use the red flash to alert the user it's going to take the photo, else there is no feedback other then the banner.

Overall :
AWESOME!!!!!!!

Well, I don't think "alerting the user" is the goal of this widget...
But I agree, AWESOME.

I only dare to suggest one improvement: the buttons "on" and "off" for each flash could be unified in only two "switch" buttons, "red flash status" and "main flash status"
And please, we need this at repos!
Great.

Great.

Well if you look at any purpose camera that has image capturing + timer, it has a red led that counts down the timer so people know when to smile.
This can also be configurable, Like a little checkbutton with a default of off or something in the same step that you choose the timer.

I've tried everything and it seems to install but doesn't work when I open the lens cover. I typed this "python /usr/lib/hildon-desktop/lfocuswi.py" in xterminal and I get:

Also i want to say that this app seems to have gone a long way! i am excited to hear everything it can do now and thats just with a camera! sooo crazy to me seriously. Anyway has this reached Extras Testing? and does anyone know if it will ever make it to MAEMO Extras? I'm assuming it would be fully optified then but i just wanted to check first.

I don't mind Testing but Devel is definitely the Devil sometimes lol. Very very nice and amazing work BTW! hats down to you all that are helping.

Re: N900 Video focus and led light, python script

When I want to record a video with the LED's on they turn off when the camera focuses. Then during recording I have to turn it on again.
Is this behavior normal?
If yes, can it be "fixed" so that the LED stays on when you actually begin recording a video?

Re: N900 Video focus and led light, python script

@ m2cm2c

why the background is blurred when the focus change?
whether this can be changed, and we can see a video image without the blanking or blurring?
Thanks!

Re: N900 Video focus and led light, python script

[Announcement]
lfocus is now up in Extras

also this will be my todo list for the upcoming versions:
  • an autofocus option
  • The built in timer should use the red flash to alert the user it's going to take the photo.
  • checkbutton with a default of off or something in the same step that you choose the timer.
  • the buttons "on" and "off" for each flash could be unified in only two "switch" buttons, "red flash status" and "main flash status"
  • the LED stays on when you actually begin recording a video
  • add python-hildon to the dependencies
  • use the proximity sensor, to pop the menu only while camera is active.
  • Might be nice to have a popup on install explaining stuff.
  • consider optification in the next release.
  • Add a checkbox to the left of the manual focus progress bar which will control the functionality of intercepting the half press.
  • Move the keyboard toggle button to the lfocus dialog.
  • Add a delay to the proximity sensor
  • Add a confirmation box to the rem.led and stop rled buttons
  • ignore both proximity sensor and keyboard when Camera is not on the foreground

m2cm2c 2010-05-20 04:34

Re: N900 Video focus and led light, python script

lfocus_0.519-1
added python-hildon to the dependencies.

Amazing man.
Good job!
Just a suggestion :
Most of the time, I won't want to open the the keyboard to use lFocus, then I have to go out of fullscreen to activate it.
Maybe you can use the proximity sensor, to pop the menu only while camera is active. Then you can stay in fullscreen (maybe) and shorten the number of presses needed to enter the menu.

Re: N900 Video focus and led light, python script

Ok Tested :

Update went fine (on LPR1.2), found the following bug :

- Keyboard shortcuts and icon toggle are not synced.
- Reproduction : always
- How? : Turn led on with keyboard shortcut, now open the GUI toggle buttons, and click the same flash, they toggle will be lit, but the led... not so much (;

I don't think it's important... but I'm a qa dude to the core so... here it is!
On my scale this passes QA though.

Re: N900 Video focus and led light, python script

What I really like about this is it unlocks the true macro photography potential of the N900. I can now focus down to 3cm using the manual focus puller. I get very sharp results at 7cm.

The first image is of some 11 or 12 point type from a photocopy shot at 7cm using lfocus.

http://members.cox.net/n75/lfocusmode.JPG

This second image was taken of the same subject at 7cm using the standard auto macro mode.

http://members.cox.net/n75/automacro.JPG

There is a huge improvement using lfocus.

m2cm2c 2010-05-27 14:55

Re: N900 Video focus and led light, python script

lfocus_0.527-1
fixed the problem with keyboard led shortcuts not syncing with the buttons
the lfocus dialog can now be turned on by using the proximity sensor instead of tapping the screen and clicking on the logo
added a new row of toggle buttons for (remember led state when capturing)(auto turn off red led when capturing)(timer red led blinking)
please read the first post on this thread for more info.
Now available in Extras-testing

I'm in need of testers, thank you.
