Nokia answers your questions. How green is Nokia?

Came across this on the Guardian. Nokia reps are actively answering questions around their environmental policies.
Not really relevant to Maemo, but since Nokia is such a large manufacturer (and its suppliers) thought this might be of interest to some of the folks here.

Which will sell you more product:
1) Answering questions that generate great PR that targets 'everyone'
2) Answering questions that generate great PR that targets existing customers, developers

From a business perspective, #1 sadly, is the obvious answer.

Actually the most important key to good business is to get loyal customers. Keeping the existing customer base is in many ways the most important thing for a company.

As for Nokia, whjat I really would like to know is if they are using coltan from Kongo in their products. Or rather, how do they ensure that they do not? What measures do they take to check up their suppliers?

Better than Apple took to ensure that no child labour was used in the iPhone factory I hope!

The farce of ecoreligious capitalism is getting on my nerves. Even McDonalds is going to change its logo into a green one.

Right, but the customers who are asking the questions that are not getting answered represent a very small portion of all of Nokia's customers. I'm not trying to instigate anything, I know Nokia's refusal to answer a lot of our questions are plainly for 'business' reasons.

This whole 'going green' BS seems to excite current customers (because they feel like they're saving the earth by purchasing products from ___), and excite new customers for the same reasons :)
