Re: Maemo Mapper v1.4 for 770/N800
I want start by saying that I think Maemo Mapper is a really cool app, and I am having a lot of fun with it. However, I have also run into a few problems that I'd like to try and get sorted out.
The first problem is downloading maps - When downloading an 'area' of large size and several zoom levels, I get a question asking if I want to download X number of maps (a few thousand typically), of Y MB (a few hundred MB). Okay, no problem. After the download starts, at some random (seemingly) period of time MM crashes out (or simply dies). Any thoughts? I'd really like to be able to download a large area with the zooms that are appropriate for what I need to do before I go on a trip. Downloading maps that are just along a route is less useful to me as I often end up a long way from my intended route... Second, when adding POI's using the tap & hold, I can enter exactly one POI. Then if I want to add another using the same method, it crashes out when I hit 'okay'. This is more annoying than much else. The third problem relates to the voice announcement of waypoints - it's not working. I've installed flite... I can load a route and as I drive, I get the text box with the driving instructions, but no voice. There is a 'chime' sound when each new box of text is displayed, but nothing else. As far as what version I have - they are the ones that were included as 'installable' in the repository on my N810. The N810 is the new WiMAX version, so I suspect that it's all the latest software. The built-in GPS works well once a fix is obtained. Any help would be most appreciated. Cheers! |
Re: Maemo Mapper v1.4 for 770/N800
Excellent application, but there are some issues:
There's an option to influence the font size that is used to display the announcements. For some reason it only works for all the other popups, but NOT for the waypoint announcements. Additonally the popups for the waypoint announcement sometimes are too small to display all of the text (often cutting off the distance to go to the next waypoint or even more). Bug? Feature? Oh, and somthing i've been wondering about: OpenStreetmap also provides their data as vector maps, dont they? Would it be possible to utilize them instead of the png files (as those eat up LOTS of space). I'm aware that it probably means including a vector renderer (mapnik?) into the app. |

Tried it, didn't like it. The interface is not intuitive and i had serious problems geting it to show my position and download the maps for it.

Re: Maemo Mapper v1.4 for 770/N800
Hi Gnuite,
Nice app, I really like it. Thanks for the fix of flite on the last update. I have a few other questions regarding the map repository... After spending *hours* downloading maps (moving to an area, zooming, unzooming and moving along) I've got a map database of >640MB... All was fine. But now, for some reason, the map database is corrupted. So: 1. Do you have a way of repairing the database? Compact does not work - I get a message that it cannot complete the command. 2. The 'Area' download with zoom levels also does not work reliably, it chugs along merrily and then crashes out. (I suspect that's how the database got trashed to begin with) IEMapper does not seem to work for me - (0 files copied), and Winmapper does not support google terrain maps. What are my options? 3. At least three people have voiced (on a different thread) that IEMapper does not copy the files but no one has responded with anything helpful (actually, there was no response at all). Any help here would be appreciated. I don't really want to go through loading all those maps again... Thanks in advance... |

Re: Maemo Mapper v1.4 for 770/N800
I was under the impression that Nutter had a conversion from 1.X files to 2.X database...
Anyway, any ideas on the corruption of the database, and can you define 'too many maps'? Cheers |
Re: Maemo Mapper v1.4 for 770/N800
I've never been able to nail down the "too many maps" issue, so I don't really know what the limit is or might be. I suspect it could depend on how many other applications are running and whether or not you have enabled swap.
As for the corrupt database, I'm not sure if there is anything you can do besides delete it and start again. Try Googling for "gdbm corrupt" though - maybe you'll find something. |
