I'm not sure that I understand. Are you trying to set up repositories? If so, use the "Download..." button in the "Manage Repositories" dialog (make sure that you are connected to the internet first).

Or are you talking about the "links" in the Maemo Mapper Repositories thread? Because those aren't links you can actually browse to in a web browser. They are templates for actual links (the %d's and %s's are filled in by Maemo Mapper itself). The only reason they are set up as links in the post are so that you can copy/paste them easily. That's not really necessary anymore, though, so long as you use the "Download..." button in the "Manage Repositories" dialog (described above).

Re: Maemo Mapper v1.4 for 770/N800

Does someone have a link for an instruction about how to enable text-to-voice for N800? Flick seems to be out of the picture? If not, where I can get one?

Btw, very very NICE program :)! I really love it.

Annoying noob experiences:
When using Maemo Mapper – Route – Download you need to use country and city codes for small streets. For example: Verysmallstreet 21 won’t work, you need to ad both, Berlin, Germany too.

All driving directions come from google maps, so the requirement for that is being derived from google maps. Besides, it makes sense that you need to have state, country otherwise there is probably hundreds of "Verysmallstreet's" at least in the US, so how would google maps know which one to create driving directions for?

Re: Maemo Mapper v1.4 for 770/N800

Yes indeed, I am not saying it is anybody’s fault just that you need to know it. It is hard to pinpoint why one gets errors as when used from browser Google maps will make necessary default guesses and also, a bit bigger streets (gategory: normal streets) are found automatically.

There might be a workaround for this, and--like the feature itself--the workaround is also dependent on Google Maps.

The GPX Driving Directions Web Service (which Maemo Mapper uses for routes) uses maps.google.com by default, but you can also change the "top-level domain" so that, for example, you can use maps.google.de if you want. If you can enter your small streets in maps.google.de and get directions fine, then here's the workardound to your problem:

At the top of the "Download Route" dialog box is a text field for a URL. If you add "&tld=de" to that URL, then Maemo Mapper will instruct the web service to use maps.google.de instead of maps.google.com. The result will be the same as if you tried to use the directions feature of maps.google.de. A side effect (for better or for worse) is that, since maps.google.de uses German as the language, all direction information will be in German.

That's also the workaround to get directions in your own language, by the way. :)

(Yeah, I know, I'm a bad person, I should document this somewhere. Well, this will have to do for now. :))

Ouch! ;)

I usually usa tld=it and get italian driving direction and I'm happy with that.

Hi,
Thanks for the replay.
First, I would like to mention that I read the thread of John Costigan on the
2007-02-08. I quote points 13-14 from his reply:
"13. You will see a black screen. From the menu, select "Maps", then select "Manage Repositories".
14. Enter a URL Format from this list:
http://www.internettablettalk.com/forums/showpost.php?p=25463&postcount=2"
I tried to download and I got en error that URL doesn't exist.
The thread link is: https://garage.maemo.org/forum/message.php?msg_id=1139.
Second, I'm connected to the Internet (WiFi) and I have a Blue GPS module that is recognized by the Nokia 700.
Last, the maemo-mapper I installed is 1.3.5 with libsqlite0. I couldn't install the latest version neither libsqlite3.
Thanks again,
Itamar

Did you enter the URL in the "Manage Repositories" dialog and hit the "Ok" button?

There's an easier way, though: just use the "Download..." button on the "Manage Repositories" dialog. I recommend upgrading to v1.4.5 - why are you unable to install it?

gnuite 2007-06-09 17:36

Maemo Mapper v1.4.6 Released

Maemo Mapper v1.4.6 has been released. This release fixes a bug in the "Manage Repositories" dialog box, and it adds some new features contributed by Tatu Männistö.

It should show up in the repository soon. Until then, you can use the direct download links in the Maemo Mapper Garage Files page.

Re: Maemo Mapper v1.4 for 770/N800

i did what u said, still, i have problem downloading,' url format'.
what should i add and where?
i'll try to install the new version 1.4.6. the problem on previous install was incompatible software version. that's why i installed the 1.3.5.
do u have 'how to' intruction of what should i install and how to setup the mapper?
This are the configuration steps I took after installing Mapper 1.3.5 )and libsqlite0):
1. on route>download...>source URL i set: http://www.gnuite.com/cgi-bin
2. on maps>manage repositories>URL format i set: http://mt.google.com/mt?n=404&v=w2.9...d&y=%d&zoom=%d
What's wrong, what should I add?
My firmware version is 3.2006.49-2.
I can't install mapper version 1.4.5/6 - why?

If you are using the 770, then make sure you have the latest version of the firmware, 3.2006.49-2 (aka gregale).

Yes, I downloaded the .deb image to my memory card, I clicked, and the installer comes-up, I clicked OK for update, and then I got the Error Window:"Unable to update. Some packages required for the update are missing". On the details TAB I read that the missing package is libsqlite3-0(>=3.3.5).
I downloaded the libsqlite3-0_3.3.5-0.2osso1_armel.dev, clicked, pressed OK, and I received en error: "Unable to install. Incompatible package".
What should I do next?

Installing the .deb files individually is a pain - it never resolves dependencies. Use the .install file (linked at the beginning of this thread) instead - that should resolve any dependencies that you might need.

If you still have problems, make sure that you are running the latest version of the firmware.

Re: Maemo Mapper v1.4 for 770/N800

I've downloaded maemo-mapper.install from: http://repository.maemo.org/extras/dists/2.0/install/.
It refresh the applications and I can see many applications except...mamo-mapper. I did the following: opened application manager, refresh, select All button, and get a list of application.
My firmware version is 3.2006.49-2.
The first thing I could think of is to uninstall the previous version first. What do you think?

itco00 2007-06-12 08:59

Re: Maemo Mapper v1.4 for 770/N800

I uninstalled the previous version and then I saw the package on the Apllication Manager list. I installed the maemo-mapper successfuly. since I have charging problem with my GPS module, I'll let you know if I succeded to download the maps also.
Thanks.
I tried to add the first URL format in maps->manage repositories, but I got an error.
I checked the documents folder and there is Maps folder - how do I use it? are this maps?

Re: Maemo Mapper v1.4 for 770/N800

Hi,
I'm having crashes with MM 1.4.6 on N800 last firmware :
looks like it happens everytime I open a dialog for the second time, for example,
Download Route then save Route => Crash
If I download a route then close MM : OK
I can then open MM and save the route ...
I really enjoy this piece of excellent software !
Thanks gnuite

Maemo Mapper v1.4.7 Released

Hey All,

I know you're all itching for Maemo Mapper v2.0, and I'm working hard on it. Until then, the 1.4.x line of versions is still going strong. I just released v1.4.7, which contains some bug fixes and a new feature: "Avoid Highways" in the "Download Route" dialog box.

Release Notes and Changelog

As usual, use the Application Manager to update your version of Maemo Mapper to the latest, or grab it straight from the Maemo Mapper Garage Files page. Or, if you're downloading it anew, use the 770/N800-agnostic .install file.

Enjoy!

Re: Maemo Mapper v1.4 for 770/N800

Hi everybody,

I am a new user of the Nokia 770 and Maemo mapper. I installed the last software version (1.4) and I have trouble establishing the connection between the 770 and my bluetooth GPS NAVIBE 735. The mapper sees the GPS in the settings menu using search but once I select the MAC it tries to search for it again and after a long wait it fails to connect to the GPS receiver.
I would greatly appreciate your input.

Cool! Downloaded it last night and was eager to see if the continuous update problem was gone. Had to wait until this afternoon since I was comfortably in bed at the time.

Seems to be working. It's definitely now more "insensitive" than other applications I've used recently, but I can get used to this. The map's so large that I can figure out myself in some cases how to get back to my route.

Thanks for fixing this.

Also finally figured out how to create POIs, but is there a way to create a route to a POI besides "go to nearest"?

I need to skim the online documentation again...

Nice.

You can tap and hold on any POI on the screen and select "POI | Route to..." from the pop-up menu.

Yep, but that means the POI has to be on the screen. I was wondering if there was a way to access them from the menu, or from a dialog opened from the menu.

Maybe adding a quick way to use them in Route>Download or a separate item like Route>To POI>_ITEM_ or have this open another dialog list.

In general I try to use Maemo Mapper while it's mounted in the car (without stylus) about 2.5 ft. away from my face. There are lots of little things that are harder when you don't have the device in your hands. This is one of them.

(It looks like you spent time thinking about putting common menu items at the top of the menu, so I think you have thought about the "no stylus" case.)

I don't have my 770 in front of me, but I can try to come up with a short list of usability 'issues' you're interested and have time.

Thanks.

I had the same problem just after the n800 firmware upgrade, and more annoying : the applicaiton suddently quits just by clicking in the map.
Maybe due to older restored settings.
These problems disappears yesturday, maybe when I install the new version of Mapper...

Re: Maemo Mapper v1.4 for 770/N800

I think there's a problem in the part of the code that parses Lat/Long text entered in the "Area" tab of the Map Manager. If I change the degree display format in the "Misc2" settings to S dd° mm' ss.s", it seems the pre-populated values in the "Area" tab are incorrectly re-parsed by the software to determine which maps to download. This generates errors when trying to retrieve Google maps in bulk, and although VE reposititories don't report download errors, the tiles retrieved are blank. This does not affect auto-downloading of maps as you browse, only downloads requested via the Map Manager.

I experienced this problem with Maemo Mapper v1.4.7-2

Re: Maemo Mapper v1.4 for 770/N800

Please forgive me if i am asking a silly question.

I installed the 1.4.7 in my 770 (latest firmware)and downloaded the repositories also. I didn't have any issue till this point. I don't have GPS and i believe that i can download standalone maps. hence i gave an origin and end point and clicked download button. it said route downloaded. but the screen is blank completely black. Whats the reason for this? i even made full screen and it didnt work. i also removed the option of "Enable only in full screen mode" nothing worked. help me

Make sure that autodown load maps is turned on, and zoom in or out on the maps to force it to update. Also, make sure your repositories are correctly set up.

Good Luck

Try "Download..." in the "Route" menu. You must be connected to the internet for this to work.

From the command line: gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/maemo/maemo-mapper

You may also want to "rm -fr /home/user/.maemo-mapper"

Maemo Mapper suggestion?

Hi, Everyone!

gnuite, I think you're doing a great job! Maemo Mapper is very useful and getting better everyday. My co-workers are amazed!!!

As a newbie, I have a suggestion to make for the next releases. Wouldn't it be nice to have "Saved Locations" so that we don't have to enter address for some places that we visit most (home, work, etc.) ? We could download routes from anywhere from/to one of our saved locations. The saved locations folder can be chosen just like we choose folder for maps, routes, etc.

Cheers,

Hi,

I dont really want to read through 32 pages, I would appreciate it if someone could help me. I tried the .install file and it only prompts me to install the -3 version, which I presume would not work as I have a 770. I also got the -3 version from maemo garage which won't install either, gives a list of dependency problems. I would appreciate it if anybody could tell me
1)Which repository to use for maemo-mapper on the 770

or

2)How to get the .install file to prompt me to install the right version.

Many thanks!

p.s. I checked and have the correct firmware version required.

p.p.s I tried going directly to this page:
https://garage.maemo.org/frs/?group_...release_id=712

but opera plays up with the site cetificates and freezes up

EDIT: Got it installed, i made the URL above into a tinyurl and it didnt crash
