Night Vision Camcorder - Possible?
 
Hey guys just want to know is there anyone out there planing on writting an app for the video camera to recording night vision video?

I've used the SONY camera came with Carl Ziess and I got to say Night vision works great with just a red light beaming out.

Is this ever be possible on N900? Since N900 got redlight LED and a good lense

The Sony uses infra-red light for night shots, I'm fairly sure the N900 doesn't have one.

well, n900 has ir port.... but it is useless.

and sony's led is probably much more powerful than n900's.

By default, any camera can record in night-vision: The ccd is based on silicon and works fine with wavelength up to 1100nm. But you have to remove the IR filter, and supply enough illumination in the IR region. (and maybe you need to filter out uv-vis!). For sure you can find some nice hack tutorial for digital cameras, and you can buy cheap IR leds, but I don't know if I would open my phone... anyway, awesome idea...

Of course it's useless!! IR port is not a camera!! nor an illuminator!! And Sony led has probably a different wavelength. Or can simply be a double one with red+IR. Btw the problem isn't the led but the filters you might remove.
so, if someone has IR leds, can I suggest to try to get some pics? so we can see how much we need to fight for removing the filter.

wtf, what have you been smoking? usually phone cameras register wavelengths of remotes so the ir port is a potential ir source for night vision stuff invisible to human eye.

It's pointed in the wrong direction and way too weak for illumination, though :P

Anyone with a strong external IR illuminator care to try taking a few pictures?

yup! sorry... I tought you planned to acquire from the ir port. but of course ir port has no resolution for acquiring :)
btw the same guy that take this pic has an n900 now, so I texted him asking if has already tried. waiting ...
