Car On Board Diagnostics on the Internet Tablet

Quote:

iNdT is at it again and this time releases Carman - an On Board Diagnostics (OBD-II) analyzer application for the Maemo platform. Carman lets you monitor and detect problems on your automobile by accessing the data stored on your car's on-board computer, the same data that service technicians use. If you have an OBD-II compliant automobile (most cars after 1996 are), you can use a Scan Tool device (about $116+) and connect Carman to it via USB (ElmScan 5) or wirelessly via Bluetooth (using a Firefly or Elm 327). You need Python 2.5 for Maemo to run Carman and a Nokia 770 (withÂ* 16MB of free virtual memory), or a Nokia N800. More information as well as the application download link can be found at the Carman garage. More cool screenshots after the jump. Thanks Marcelo!Â* Â*

But I cannot install Python 2.5. I consistently get the same message from the crappy Application Installer: "libbluetooth1 (>=2.19) is missing. F*ck you, User." (OK, so maybe that last part wasn't exactly on the screen).

Why oh why can I not install Python 2.5?

Hei!

Karel, did you tried talking to Osvaldo or other guys at INdT about that? They can for sure help you with that. And also if you're facing this, more users should be, so please let us know so we can fix it =)

Marcelo

The contats are in the project site!

There are at least two of us:

Me, in my usual "grumpy old men"-style: http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ead.php?t=4736

and this thread: http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ead.php?t=4739
Make that three, according to the reply in the last thread.

Heck, and all I wanted was an egg timer...

The funny thing is, I recently reflashed my 770 with the latest 3.2006 OS, and having the choice between Python 2.4 and 2.5 in the App Manager, went with 2.5 in "what the heck" mode (having already seen your post). And guess what, it went just fine :-)

2.5 installs fine for me on the N800. I did enable red pill and some additional repos (my list):

#maemo:name Nokia Catalogue
#maemo:essential
deb http://catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com/certified/ bora user
#maemo:name Nokia Catalogue (3rd party software)
deb http://catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com/non-certified/ bora user
#maemo:name maemo-hackers
deb http://maemo-hackers.org/apt bora main
#maemo:name Maemo
deb http://repository.maemo.org/ bora free non-free extras
#maemo:name Maemo extras
deb http://repository.maemo.org/extras/ bora free non-free
#maemo:name Minimo
deb http://home.ufam.edu.br/~agan/minimo mistral/
#maemo:name FBReader
deb http://only.mawhrin.net/fbreader/maemo bora user

As for the firefly serial to bluetooth adapter - this appears to be powered by the serial port, correct?

I have every repository you listed, and then some. I double-checked for typos.

Still nuffink.

It seems that if you save the deb to your mmc or sd card and install from there, dependencies get installed but not if you install by clicking open instead of save.

At least in one case I've had this happen.

How did you install?

Aha! (that should tell you I tried to install directly from the Net).

Trying now -- OK, the only downloadable thing I can find is the installer file, so I'll save that on my card.

Clicking the file brings up Application Installer, which asks if it can install the repository "bora extras", which I already have! (Nevermind, just say "yes".)

AM refreshes the repository lists and asks to install Python 2.5. Upon confirming, it tells me the same message I've been getting since yesterday: libbluetooth1 etc... is missing. Deleting the superfluous bora extras rep changes nothing.

Hmmm... What if I delete all the bora extras repositories and try again? ...

SUCCESS!!! Python 2.5 is installed! I can't believe it! (actually, what I cannot believe, is that I've spent nearly two days trying to install an eggtimer program -- which works fine, BTW, just in case anyone is interested).

Thanks a zillion, RogerS!!!
