Re: Car On Board Diagnostics on the Internet Tablet
But I cannot install Python 2.5. I consistently get the same message from the crappy Application Installer: "libbluetooth1 (>=2.19) is missing. F*ck you, User." (OK, so maybe that last part wasn't exactly on the screen).
Why oh why can I not install Python 2.5? |
Re: Car On Board Diagnostics on the Internet Tablet
Hei!
Karel, did you tried talking to Osvaldo or other guys at INdT about that? They can for sure help you with that. And also if you're facing this, more users should be, so please let us know so we can fix it =) Marcelo The contats are in the project site! www.marceloeduardo.com |

Re: Car On Board Diagnostics on the Internet Tablet
The funny thing is, I recently reflashed my 770 with the latest 3.2006 OS, and having the choice between Python 2.4 and 2.5 in the App Manager, went with 2.5 in "what the heck" mode (having already seen your post). And guess what, it went just fine :-)

Re: Car On Board Diagnostics on the Internet Tablet
2.5 installs fine for me on the N800. I did enable red pill and some additional repos (my list):
#maemo:name Nokia Catalogue #maemo:essential deb http://catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com/certified/ bora user #maemo:name Nokia Catalogue (3rd party software) deb http://catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com/non-certified/ bora user #maemo:name maemo-hackers deb http://maemo-hackers.org/apt bora main #maemo:name Maemo deb http://repository.maemo.org/ bora free non-free extras #maemo:name Maemo extras deb http://repository.maemo.org/extras/ bora free non-free #maemo:name Minimo deb http://home.ufam.edu.br/~agan/minimo mistral/ #maemo:name FBReader deb http://only.mawhrin.net/fbreader/maemo bora user As for the firefly serial to bluetooth adapter - this appears to be powered by the serial port, correct? |

Re: Car On Board Diagnostics on the Internet Tablet
It seems that if you save the deb to your mmc or sd card and install from there, dependencies get installed but not if you install by clicking open instead of save.
At least in one case I've had this happen. How did you install? |

Trying now -- OK, the only downloadable thing I can find is the installer file, so I'll save that on my card. Clicking the file brings up Application Installer, which asks if it can install the repository "bora extras", which I already have! (Nevermind, just say "yes".) AM refreshes the repository lists and asks to install Python 2.5. Upon confirming, it tells me the same message I've been getting since yesterday: libbluetooth1 etc... is missing. Deleting the superfluous bora extras rep changes nothing. Hmmm... What if I delete all the bora extras repositories and try again? ... SUCCESS!!! Python 2.5 is installed! I can't believe it! (actually, what I cannot believe, is that I've spent nearly two days trying to install an eggtimer program -- which works fine, BTW, just in case anyone is interested). Thanks a zillion, RogerS!!! |
Re: Car On Board Diagnostics on the Internet Tablet
This looks like a really cool program. I can't wait to try this out on my car. Now it would sure be nice if my n800 supported usb host mode so I could buy a usb scanner and not need a firefly for an extra $100 :)
Also, is there a way to switch the displays to the American units I'm familiar with? Or will they switch automatically after connecting to an American car? |
Re: Car On Board Diagnostics on the Internet Tablet
I wonder if there would be any way to add OBD-II compatible interface to a motorcycle.
That would N800 a really cool replacement for the regular meters. And it could switch between navigation mode and the "dash" mode :-) |
Re: Car On Board Diagnostics on the Internet Tablet
I have a meeting with the company who makes the car modules next week. Thankfully they're in Phoenix too. What questions would you all like me to bring?

Re: Car On Board Diagnostics on the Internet Tablet
Ah yes, Carman looks quite nice. It's been a while since my last post, but it's news like this that will drag the dead from their graves to comment on. Very cool application. Wasn't there a dedicated device that was shown awhile ago that performed a similar function? I believe I had a post about it somewhere on NET9. Hmm...

Re: Car On Board Diagnostics on the Internet Tablet
Hey :) First post here - HELLO.
How could I know if it will work in my old car ('94 BMW E34 520), and which module for the car do you suggest buying to use the N800 as my on-board computer? |

Re: Car On Board Diagnostics on the Internet Tablet
Thank you for the link phatman81.
They say most cars after '96, but probably some before '96 are also supported. I'd have to do a research on that :) |
Re: Car On Board Diagnostics on the Internet Tablet
The e34 has OBD1. You're best off buying a carsoft package with OBD1 interface for the e34. e.g. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-C...QQcmdZViewItem
IIRC the OBD1 DLC plug location for the e34 is only available under the hood. If you want to check/run error codes you have to do it with the hood up and the car parked or on a dyno. |
Re: Car On Board Diagnostics on the Internet Tablet
WOW.
This is the sort of killer app that the platform needs! Awesome work iNdT! This needs to be front and center on Tableteer IMO. It's also prime material for an article in Car and Driver and similar magazines. |
Re: Car On Board Diagnostics on the Internet Tablet
i just installed this app, and will be getting the car connection kit from elmscan in the near future. i gotta say that this is amazing. i do have a couple of questions/requests.
- is it possible to have the carman app adjust settings such as air/fuel mixture, timing advance and things like that? say i drove my hot rod ('99 Ford Escort Wagon SE :p ) to the drag strip, and wanted the settings adjusted based on humidity and air temp. could this be possible with the OBD II connector and carman? - Turbo Timer and Control. can carman be set up to control things like boost pressure and those types of controls with and OBD II connector? - EDIT - Also how do you switch from metric? i edited the carman.conf to be "imperial", but it switched it back on me when i restarted the app? |
