enough with the fake news:map loader for n900
ok, enough with every idiot that says there is a map loader for N900. there is NO map loader for N900. there is only one version avcailable at this time 3.0.28 around the whole world and it does NOT support N900. you are trying to increase the visit rate of your blog with fake news?
|
Re: enough with the fake news:map loader for n900
lol.
The newest map loader is working fine with the N900. |
Re: enough with the fake news:map loader for n900
write down your version. cause 3.0.28 does not work.
|
Re: enough with the fake news:map loader for n900
Despite I don't like the tone of OPs post, I have to agree, that the newest maploader does not work with my N900 and Vista. But maybe that's because I dont have a memory card in my device.
|
Re: enough with the fake news:map loader for n900
well i have memory card..actually bought it for this reason..doesnt work in vista, xp or windows 7. i get the usual annoying message. connected to mass storage, please connect it via pc suite and vice versa. lol

Re: enough with the fake news:map loader for n900
Did you rename the .qf file?

You stated that there is only one version available in the whole world but you ask for different a version number? I can assure you that I have downloaded the version which was latest approx. 3 weeks ago with which I installed 2 GB of maps 5 days ago on a N900. So instead of bashing others I suggest you politely tell what you tried and others will try to help you out to get it working. I believe this is fair enough. |
Re: enough with the fake news:map loader for n900
why do i have to rename and do stuff manually?? i can also copy and paste files in the phone memory and make some other applications work. thats not the proper way.
sorry ofels, the application is failing completely. the proper way is to install the program, run it, connect the phone and then the application is supposed to read it. it doesnt. the application is not working. nothing changed. |

Re: enough with the fake news:map loader for n900
Version 3.0.28.0 works for me.
Once I installed this Maploader, I'll have two maploaders: 1. PCSuite maploader works with both N900 and my other E90. 2. Ovimaps only works for E90. OVI can't pair with N900, nothing new here. Comparison between the two: Ovimaps can read device memory and display what maps already loaded in the phone. PCSuite just loads the map, it can't read from device. My suggestion to you: - Start OVI maps at least once, to build the 'cities' directory in the new memory card. - Reconnect phone to PC, PCSuite mode. Run the Maploader again. |
Re: enough with the fake news:map loader for n900

I have to agree with @el3ctronick that the maploader is NOT working 100% for the N900. I wasted about half a day. Rebooted Windoze XP, rebooted N900 god knows how many times. Suddenly without doing anything different it worked - maploader was able to detect phone. it was map loader version 3.028

Maploader works perfectly for me in both XP (where I'm using 3.0.28) and OSX (version 1.1).. |
Re: enough with the fake news:map loader for n900
I used Maploader months ago (just after free Ovi maps for S60 was announced) to squeeze the whole of the UK onto my N900 and it worked first time, so it's not true that it doesn't work at all. I used a guide from the forums here - no renaming or extra faffing necessary.
Using: Windows XP N900 with Global Firmware Do those who it doesn't work for have Nokia PC Suite installed? I'd imagine the phone wouldn't be detected in PC Suite mode otherwise as it requires some drivers. |
Re: enough with the fake news:map loader for n900
i only got the map loader to work with xp, win 7 64bit had no joy, same goes for NSU, works in XP but not Win7, not sure bout vista!!!
Plus u must have the N900 as a Mass storage device, so when u look in my computer u see to new storage drives, 1 should show a lil pic of the N900... if not unplug and plug back in, this works on a VM machine if u have win7 or having probs with vista install vmware with a copy of xp on it and ur gd ta go!! |

If you are really interested in getting it working with PCSuite mode then invest a few seconds to rename the file but do not blame others for your lack of interest otherwise. |
Re: enough with the fake news:map loader for n900
I'm with the people that say you shouldn't need to rename files to get this program to work.
The PC/OVI Suite is an absolute abomination of software, and it always has been. I can't believe how Nokia can release something so bad with obviously very little testing/QA. I've been using it in it's different incarnations and names for about 8 years and it's never improved. What's with the horrendous skinning as well? |

Re: enough with the fake news:map loader for n900
Hello to all,
I would like to say everybody is right here :) It sounds funny but its the facts. I had the chance to play a bit with this Map Loader issue and found the following facts. I tried several OS and in the end tried playing with VISTA 32 bit. IMO it does not really change anything between XP and VISTA. WIN7 is officially not supported by the MAP Loader sot works nice, if not it doesnt :) I had 3 devices N900 to test. Results: 1 work directly 1 work after some playing 1 did not work at all The first I connected in MASS Storage and it was recognized and I could download the MAPS. So nice and easy The second device did not want to do anything so What I did was all the suggestions given here. Renaming the file etc etc. But still did not work. So I copied the QF File from the first device and copied into the second device. Tried Mass Storage Mode still no success. Connected to PC Suite in PCS Mode and then started the Map Loader and miracle :) Got recognised and I could download the maps. The third device with all of above tries or anything no chance to connect and go recognised by the MAP Loader. So conclusion about this, it seems to be the difference between installed programs or the SW or the state of the device. But its very strange behaviour indeed. What I really did remark was that you always should connect the device in advance before you start the MAP Loader. So Device is clearly connected and then start the programm. Perhaps somebody can fix his issue :) I dont due the 3rd Device is mine :( So no Maps on the device. BR Wolfpac |
Re: enough with the fake news:map loader for n900
You can also download and install maps manually, if you don't have MS Windows installed at all.
Nokia should make Map Loader work also in Linux-systems. http://handphone-solution.blogspot.c...0-without.html |
Re: enough with the fake news:map loader for n900
Hmm the latest version of the maploader worked for me, as someone else here said after renaming the .qf file it worked perfectly. I am also running windows 7 x64 so if it works for me then it should be no problem for xp and vista 32... I think I used the PC suite connection mode though rather than the mass storage but again this is hardly a big issue!
Yes the rename is a bit of a pain but hardly a big deal and its been covered in the forums here before! This is also news as the maploader has been out for several weeks now but I believe it is good news as it shows that Nokia is moving support forwards for the N900 and the OVI maps platform! |

Re: enough with the fake news:map loader for n900
Works perfectly fine. With windows XP. It seems odd to me that Nokia can only make it work on a 9 year old deprecated operating system, but thems the breaks. If you have Win7 pro just use XP mode.
Note: I use Win7 X64 so that may be my issue with it. |
