Yup, I'm confused by this too. Though the actual file path is /maps/uXX where XX is the state initials. Anyone have an idea?

On mine with USA maps installed, the folder in the "maps" directory is "upa". Regard, I'm thinking this might be different depending on your home location.

The best way to find the correct folder is to first create a new POI category from within the app and save it. You can call it whatever you want. After you save it you will find a *.upi file with that name in one of the map folders. The folder that you find it in is the folder you want to place your other POI files into as well. :)

The coresponding Icon files go in "res" under "icons"

EDIT: I have attached a zip file with a Red Light & Speed Cam POI that I produced so we can all play along at home. :)

you have to open the File Manager. Not the Application Manager.
After copying the files with the Sygic program to the internal memory of your N900, take the usb-cable off, open file manager and select the mobile-maps-setup.deb file, or whatever it is called...

Thanks, though I find this setup rather...well ******ed. So if I want speed cameras in MD, DC, and VA I have to copy it three times into UMD,UDC, and UVA. I can't imagine what wasted space there will be if I do this for the POI of starbucks, reststops, etc... in the USA. Oh well good thing I don't travel often out of the East Coast.

Yes i have done all that you have said but it still does not give me the option to install, i've tried searching for sygic, mobilemapssetup.deb and it still don't find them.
I don't think i'm doing any thing wrong but something seems to be missing??
This will be my last post for a couple of weeks as i'm of to the USA where as you can see without a working sat nav i'm going to get lost, haho thanks to all that have tried to help.
Cheers Simon.

No... just once in whatever folder your upi's are stored. If you want speed cams where ever and they are not in the file I provided. Simple fix, add them. :)

Well, I'm not sure about that. If I save favorites in FL, it puts the upi file in ufl and nowhere else.

I may have mis-understood the file layout. Are the maps not broken down by each state (hence why we have a folder for each state?). I'm not currently using your speed camera file, just using some random one I found online though it contains speed cameras across several states. My comment was regarding how we would show the same POI across several states.

And that is all it needs to do. This I believe is the limit of whatever pre-fetch it uses. It loads just what it needs to give you a quick response when navigating to a "POI near me"

When I go to "browse map", zoom out, and move the cursor to any part of the country: If I tap the menu button and select "Find nearby POI" It does return all nearby POI's. A search for "Borders" in Oklahoma City took about 15 seconds, but it gave me the Borders on the Northwest expressway there.

...and Laughing Man I'm sorry if I appeared snippy. The "R" word does that to me sometimes. Having a younger sibling that has been called that most of his life, for most of my life I have volunteered my free time to his community of friends and others who provide support. Again, I apologize for being overly sensitive.

BTW the file I provided has 2455 locations included in it.

If you load it in your local directory when you go to "Browse Map" point to say LA, hit the menu button (between "Options" and "Done") then select "Find Nearby POI", then select "Cams", It will find cams in LA. If you find yourself on the road in LA I'm pretty sure the cams will show up. They have for me when I am outside my home area in DC or NYC.

Could you share the methods you used to convert a "file found on the net" to a useful Sygic POI? I have been working on and off for two weeks now trying to find all the idiosyncrasies of a Sygic POI file in order to post a "How to". Maybe you found an easier way. :)
