How to mod Sygic

Hi!
I've posted a second video about Sygic, where you can see fullscreen-mode, portrait-mode and no warnings at the start.

http://www.youtube.com/zehjotkah#p/u/0/Ap68fgJmCmo

Also I've posted this How-To on my blog in german, too.

http://zehjotkah.blogspot.com/2010/03/sygic-modden.html

Fullscreen-mode:
open X-Terminal and type in the following:
Code:

root
vi /usr/share/applications/hildon/sygic.desktop

move cursor with arrow buttons.
click button "a" for editing mode.
change
Code:

Exec=/opt/sygic/Drive/Maemo/drive -cwd=/home/user/MyDocs/Drive/Maemo
to
Code:

Exec=/opt/sygic/Drive/Maemo/drive -cwd=/home/user/MyDocs/Drive/Maemo -rfull
click Esc on screen for quit editing mode
type in
Code:

:w
and hit enter to save

Next enable all menu entries (and therefore the portrait mode) and disable the warning.

Connect your N900 with PC.
Open the 32GB memory (for example G: )
Change to this directory:
Code:

G:\Drive\Maemo
rename menu.ini for example to menuold.ini.
save and close

open settings.ini.
search for
Code:

showSafetyMsg=true
and change it to
Code:

showSafetyMsg=false
Attention! There are two lines, both have to end with =false.
save end close

If you have problems with lags read the post from D-Iivil:

If you want to rearrange your menu (for example the quit button on the first page) check out the post from dread123:
http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...1&postcount=42

If you want to change the colors of the menu as well as the map colors, check out another post from dread123:
http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...4&postcount=55

If you want to remove the zoom-in and zoom-out buttons on the top check out another post from dread123:
http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...6&postcount=79

If you need to replace the sygic.desktop file (if you've made a mistake) and you know how to replace it: here is a clean, fullscreen-enabled one:
http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...6&postcount=30

If you want to change the color of the line assistant, check out the post from basp:
http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=173

If you want to change the splashscreen, check out the post from YoDude:

Have fun with Sygic!

Re: How to mod Sygic

Why do you need to connect the phone to a PC to edit the settings.ini file?
It's right there in /home/user/MyDocs/Drive/Maemo, you can edit it using leafpad or vi, you can also easily make a backup of it using the cp command. Why this craziness?

because it's easier for the average user.
Users who know how to edit it with vi don't need my how-to...
The first thing I'm editing with vi, because it's more difficult to get access to these file with your PC than editing with vi.

you can use the maps from the symbian version, but please discuss here only the Sygic mods (there are far more things to mod, like map-color and so on) and use the other thread for non-mod related questions.

Re: How to mod Sygic

How do you change the voices with different one (like TomTom can change to 'celebrity' voices) I prefer a female english speaking voice to the male speaking voice

zehjotkah 2010-03-19 21:17

Re: How to mod Sygic

There is a Sygic Voice Packager, which can be used to record own voices.

Re: How to mod Sygic

Has anyone been able to set higher volume? The device can do better... Maybe sygic cannot use highest volume somehow... And fm transmitter isn't the answer for this.

I dotn want to record my own voice, what I would like to do is maybe use the TomTom female voice, or even use the John Cleese one I have :)

You can do it (there's unpackers for TomTom and packers for Sygic) but apparently there's not a match up on sound files between the two (Sygic uses more sounds). Not sure this means in practice though.

Re: How to mod Sygic

The lag/delay disappeared completely after changing following in settings.ini

PositionFiltering=false (default is true)

The movement of the arrow isn't as smooth but it is definitely more accurate. (accurate to within 5m)

Re: How to mod Sygic

Anyone managed to switch keyboard layout in Sygic? In the settings I can select Russian/Greek keyboards, but cannot choose them when I go to typing the address. There is a button seemingly mentioned to switch layouts, but it disabled.

Re: How to mod Sygic

I would really like it to start at Portrait orientation. But it always launches as landscape so you have to manually change it to portrait everytime. Is there no way to change this?

I haven't found out how to change this yet.
But it's on my list the 1st priority..

Works for me (it's the globe button on the bottom right of the keyboard).

Re: How to mod Sygic

Thanks ! changing menu and loosing warning site worked fine for me.
I have another problem:
Sygic uses lots of power. In found it necessary to continuously connect the device to the charger while driving.
In portrait mode the connection for charging is on top of the device - which causes the charging cable hanging around stupidly, and possible damage to the connector.
Is it possible to flip over portrait mode 180 degrees ?

you can install camkeyd, which enables pressing the cam-button half the way (if the camera-slider is closed) to open the taskswitcher.

also it would be nice to change the orientation based on the accelerometer.
Sygic, are you reading this? ;)

Re: How to mod Sygic

There's an app in extras-devel called camkeyd (or the like) which lets you use the camera button as task-switcher.

[EDIT] beat by a minute...

Re: How to mod Sygic

Mine keeps defaulting to km's instead of miles on start up, even if I have previously changed the distance units in the regional settings.

I have changed the default unit setting from kilometers to miles by changing the unit value in the settings ini but this doesn't seem to have made an difference and it still starts up again in km's.

Is there anything I can do to change this?

Thanks

you have to close Sygic via the menu. Not via the X. Then it saves every preferences you've made.

Sounds great, so is it usable in this state or is the arrow to jumpy?

Hm. That's actually a bug in Sygic. An X11 application closed via the 'x' in the window manager should behave as when closed with 'Close' in the menu. The 'x' isn't a kill -9.
