Re: Gimmicks you might have missed on the N900
Is there a way to set a constant zoom level in the email app?

Re: Gimmicks you might have missed on the N900
ok something you guys might find useful..how to hide files...
make a folder with a name starting from dot in MyDocs. eg .folder then use the path file:///home/user/MyDocs/.folder to access the contents of this folder..the files here are not visible in any of the music n video players, but when u open them from browser they work just fine :) |
Re: Gimmicks you might have missed on the N900
props to the OP for this thread, picked up a few nice tips already.
when you "swipe in" from the left and get a mouse cursor, press the mouse cursor tab on the left to enable text highlighting, ctrl-c to copy, then press the tab again to resume normal browsing. also holding caps+left or right arrow highlights text |

Re: Gimmicks you might have missed on the N900
Too lazy to read whole thread, but I use quite much Mozilla/Firefox shortcuts that work on MicroB also. Ctrl+n opens new window, Ctrl+l takes you to location bar, Ctrl+f opens search etc..

Whereas if you use the method i suggested (creating .foldername) the files would not be visible in file manager also..but you would need to connect the phone to a pc to manage the files through mass storage so take your own pick...your phone, your security, your choice!! :) |

Sorry, I misspelled.
You don't put a '-' before the moo. (Edited the original post.) |
Re: Gimmicks you might have missed on the N900
Excellent thread :) Thanks
apt-get moo has to be my fave so far (entirely useless but cool and amusing!) |

In conversations, click on the contacts avatar to bring up the contact information, allowing you to call or contact that person through a different method.

this doesn't work for me as you describe it. The files are not indexed by the tracker but they appear in the File Manager. What could i have done wrong? |
Re: Gimmicks you might have missed on the N900
I'm not 100% on this; but in Browser, whilst holding the button "down" to scroll a page, if you press Ctrl and then press the Blue arrow, it speeds up the scrolling speed.

This may be because I have Function Up and Function Down remapped to Home and End, so I'm essentially getting Ctrl-Home and Ctrl-End functionality. |
Re: Gimmicks you might have missed on the N900
But it doesn't go home, it just scrolls fast.

Re: Gimmicks you might have missed on the N900
This one's very simple and most people would know it already. To move between the text fields on a form (like user id / password email settings etc) you can use just the up and the down arrows. These act as 'tab' and 'shift + tab' on a pc.

Re: Gimmicks you might have missed on the N900
When your on web twitter or facebook any place , if you see a link and click it the browser will go to that link and you need to press backspace and come to this window
Instead press and hold on that link and you will get options as to open in new window , you can also add it to fav ... one more may be you know To see cpu utilization when something wrong go to xterminal and run the command top you will get cpu , mem and to p10 process using the device /// :) Thanks above all for the tips |
Re: Gimmicks you might have missed on the N900
Filename completion:
In the terminal window (Ctrl - Shift - x), rather than type in a very long file name (or full path name to a file), you can get the shell (the '$') to complete the filename for you. You do this by typing the first few characters of the file and then clicking the tab button on the screen. For example, start up the shell window. You will see the prompt : ~ $ to list the files type ls you get ~ $ ls MyDocs ~ $ lets say you want to change director to 'MyDocs' type: ~ $ cd M then hit the Tab button on the X Terminal screen and you will see that the shell completes the filename for you. This results with: ~ $ cd MyDocs/ This comes in very handy if you have very long pathnames. |

Re: Gimmicks you might have missed on the N900
@scouser
you can also use ctrl+i for autocomplete @foxtrot what's the dashboard? not familiar with the terms but ctrl+backspace takes you to the mutitasking panel if that's what you're looking for. |
Re: Gimmicks you might have missed on the N900
In the browser, instead of circling your finger around, you can pivot your finger on a point in the screen, motioning in the direction you want to go. (zoom in:right, zoom out:left)
Like you're trying to drill a hole in the screen. (gently) |
