This may be because I have Function Up and Function Down remapped to Home and End, so I'm essentially getting Ctrl-Home and Ctrl-End functionality.

Here is how it seems to work: While pressing the up/down key, press the ctrl once. This will make it scroll faster. Then press it again. It will go even faster. If you press it for a third time it will be slow again. Seems to work about 4 out of 5 times.

Instead of the ctrl key you can also use the blue arrow.

Also if its too hard to manipulate your fingers press function key (blue up arrow) twice to lock it then press ctrl and extra symbols come up.

Dont forget to unlock function key by pressing twice again ;)

Re: Gimmicks you might have missed on the N900

sometimes i miss T9. especially if i have to write long messages via the SMS function.
mostly because of the way how umlauts (äöü and ß) has to be entered in the N900. it would be far more easier if the app would recognise that "fur" isn't what i want to write but "für" would be the correct word... just an example ;-)

Is there a way to get the turn-to-Phone feature working across the board? That would actually make it useful: It's pretty useless from the desktop as I have the Phone shortcut there, and besides it takes more time for the N900 to realise it's been turned than to prod a desktop shortcut if you're there already.

Try installing shortcutd. This allows you to configure the camera button to launch the phone, which means you can use the portrait mode of the browser as per the previous post, which a universal turn-to-phone would prevent. it also allows you to configure the camera button or prox sensor to work as a browser back button, thus making the portrait mode for the borwser usable.

I`m still looking for a tab key!....like when you put your username and the press tab to go to the password box.....is there a way to do it easily on the N900 rather than tapping on the password box?

Yes indeed. Inquiring minds would like to know.

I was thinking more like 'before I have the disinfectant ready after keyboard contact with both my toe and wedding tackle' but yes, spare arm would be a much better option.

It was answered above...hit ctrl + right arrow (or left arrow to go to previous box)

That is certainly handy. However I would like to know how one can adjust the sound-volume while in the browser.

In the user manual (p. 47, Browser/Web Settings) there seems to be a switch for it under the browser settings, i.e. to use the volume rockers for zooming or for sound, but in real life I can't find this. Is this one of the mythical FW 1.2 options, together with e.g. the option: "Enable Rotation"? Or am I looking in the wrong place?

Press the power button quickly once and a small menu appears that includes changing to "offline-modus" (flight modus by other phones). Is the quickest way to keep the phone from ringing when at the doctor's office.. or where ever. I use it all the time.

Re: Gimmicks you might have missed on the N900

When you connect your n900 to a Mac in Mass Storage mode, then delete some files via the Mac, this folder is created:

/home/user/MyDocs/.Trashes

This contains the deleted items (think Trash or Recycle Bin), which could, eventually, take up a lot of valuable space.

It's safe to delete this folder from the xterm (rm -R /home/user/MyDocs/.Trashes). I freed up about 6gb of space in doing so. >_<

Re: Gimmicks you might have missed on the N900

Found a new one accidentally which I've not seen anywhere: -

Similar to typing a letter to jump to your contacts, if you enter a number it immediately brings up the phone. So e.g. from the desktop, blue arrow and P brings up the phone interface with a zero ready entered.

Only minor issue then is that the blue arrow is then not needed for the rest of the number so you have to remember to let go of it. :p

This is the quickest way to add a new contact - if someone gives you their number, you can type the number in, then from the top menu bar select New Contact to enter their name details.

It does the same thing as Ctrl backspace.

FYI: It's the same as hitting the menu/multi-select button in the upper left corner.

for those of you having trouble viewing TMO on the n900 and don't like the minimalist theme solution (like me.) you can swipe in the cursor to a space between posts, lock it, and scroll the missing parts of the page with the right arrow key.

sorry poor explanation but if anyone can put it more elequently then feel free!

This might be a silly question but how exactly do you swipe, everytime i try the page seems to just move to the left
