Re: PSX4All Maemo Edition

wolfmaster19 , the emulator run isos any size, i tried tekken 3 iso 42mb and tony hawk 700mb and without problem.

Re: PSX4All Maemo Edition

how did you compress a psx iso to 42mb ?

edit: does anyone know an efficient way to compress these big isos to say more or less 100 mb ?

PSX4M has just passed it's development state and it's now available at extras-testing repository.

How does this work again? I've downloaded it from extras-testing, but I don't see any icon in the menu.

Hi are you guys playing FFVII on psx4m? or psx4m-gui? cause i saw the set up on frame skip you guys using is up to 8 but in gui the frameskip is only 5 and which one is better psx4m or the psx4m-gui? thanks :)

Re: PSX4All Maemo Edition

hey,

I cant get psx4m working. after starting gui, setting up keys, i choose FF7.iso and press start. gui closes and nothing happens. If i open Conky it says that psx4m is running but now window opens.
Any idea?

Thanks for the reply! I just installed it. Is there any guide how to get the games working? As in where to put the image files and bios? :)

AgogData 2010-12-04 14:30

Re: PSX4All Maemo Edition

Jack, put the games anywhere i put them in a folder called it PSX..but the bios must be in MyDocs main
you can press option and select folder to select your game

Gee2Be 2010-12-04 14:32

Re: PSX4All Maemo Edition

isos have to be put where you want. In the gui, in extras you can choose directory.
Bios have to be put in ~/MyDocs as "scph1001.bin"

Re: PSX4All Maemo Edition

Thanks for the info!

Ok, I'm getting an error:

You should set keys to use psx4m.
Check permission of file
/home/opt/psx4m/keys

EDIT:

Ok, I've figured it out, set up games directory and am trying a few games right now...

EDIT2: What are the controls?

Re: PSX4All Maemo Edition

Thanks for the reply, controls work.

As for the quality of the emulator, I'm fairly surprised.

All games I have tried are working (have launched, got in-game). I haven't found any major glitches in them, they look well and seem as playable.

The speed though is an issue. I understand there is no GPU acceleration present at this moment, thus all is relying on the CPU to calculate. That would explain the low framerate and slow sounds.

However, my N900 is on default clock (600Mhz) and it doesn't work that bad. I've set frameskip to 7, cycle to 4 and it's working anywhere from 10fps to 30fps.

I imagine that in the future it will get only better. :)

if you ever face a game thats a lil slow try playing with frame rate and cycle multiplier, it works with me :)

Re: PSX4All Maemo Edition

Sure, I've tried:
Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot 2, Crash Bandicoot 3, Spyro The Dragon 3, Kula World.

Yeah, I think I'll need to play with that. For me it's actually a miracle these games even launch and work without any major glitches.

Hopefully one day they will be fully playable (at least stable 30fps, rather 50-60fps and with GPU acceleration).

By the way - Is there a way to stretch the picture full screen (games are 4:3)?

crail 2010-12-04 18:29

Re: PSX4All Maemo Edition

kula world is slow on psx4m, its full speed on psx4all if you like that game

So anybody now can answer me why some games doesn't run some of the music ingame? Like the FFVII intro... It has no sounds.

Thanks! Mind sharing the settings? Mine is totally silent...

Re: PSX4All Maemo Edition

well thats what happened when i was trying to play ff7..i tried it with psx4all not psx4m and i didn't have the bios yet and at the train station (1st level) when i enter my first battle it crashes and the intro was slow and a laggy sound but when i downloaded the bios (illeagaly :D) it became faster but the sound still laggy and there is no crash, and honestly i don't remember the settings and i didn't change anything in the settings of psx4all. but i didn't try ff7 with psx4m so i don't know if it work or not..btw there is a list of working games in bonapart's signature with settings to play ff7 with psx4m and as i remember you should OC @ 900

In the gui, if you drag frameskip up to 5, then keep going, you'll see it scrolls further, allowing you to set it to 8... same with cycle mult. Not obvious, I know...

Tedri Mark: i doesn't answer for this question cuz i don't know how to explaint this unobvious qt bug =) thx

EQ said that summeli already merged they sources for symbian (GL ES support + some rewriting of RAM management) and now they wait sources from ZodTTD. Now i have no time to make any progress so we can wait for eq and summeli

also i have two questions for maemo community:
1) should i merge GUI and Core in one package ?
2) should GL ES version be separated to other package or i should remove soft version at all (i don't know about differences in compatible with peteGPU\newGPU so in my opinion it should be separated) ?

1. Yeah a merged one would be good... I don't see any point seperating the frontend from the backend on psx4m.

2. Well for me seperated version is better... But if you can you could make a dual version where we could choose which plugin it use just by a couple of clicks on option... That way it would be more user friendly to common users and would keep us from reinstalling from time to time because of compatibility issues :D

There is no point in merging pcsx4all with psx4all.
psx4all is an old version of PCSX with some code rearanged to make compilation easier on MacOS for iOS and Mupen64 DynaRec transplanted and hacked to fit. And the SoftGPU plugin was optimized for ARM.

pcsx4all has a dynarec implemented from scratch for its architecture and works much better tham psx4all dynarec. Plus is based on most recent PCSX-r code with many game compatibility fixes. And has a working HLE (does not require BIOS file).

So the correct way would be porting Maemo GFX and Sound backends to pcsx4all, rather than adding more code to psx4all bag.

It does work, but has very low subset of GLES implemented. Not enough for peopsGPU.
(I mentioned this already in this thread too.)

bonapart 2010-12-05 14:21

Re: PSX4All Maemo Edition

smoku: i read that, it mean that glesport is real thrash for this and can't help =) so i just wait for GL->GL ES rewrited sources by eq and summeli ...
you said that you haven't any ARM based device, maybe you can implement x86 recompiler from pcsx for meego books?

PCSX has a working x86 dynarec already. It is its primary dynarec. :)

I'd welcome both software and GPU accelerated renderer in one version, so that we could choose what to use if one or the other fails for some odd reason. Just like on the PC version of the psxemu.
