How to check for new apps for download?

Hey,

Is there a way to see what's recently been added to the list of applications available to download?
So far I'm still staying away from 'devel' and 'testing' repositories, and will only install applications from the normal maemo forums and such... I check every here and there and if anything catches my eye I will install it... But I would like to know what's new since I last checked.

Is there a way to do this?

Thank you.

i think when you click "Downloads" on the top of this page you'll see the most popular and the hottest (newest/latest) apps?!

or you install an app named "appwatch" there you can sort the list by date and i think it even shows a preview for some apps to come :)

There is "appdownloader" application which will tell statistics and "what is new" in repositories.
I do not know from which repo I got it from.

(How to know, i.e. in terminal, from where some installed package was retrieved from?)

That, is comedic... But, but, is there an appwatch watch to watch for appwatch?

So I guess I can semi-manually monitor new apps by checking the site via browser?

mhm... just add the rss-feed-widget to any of your desktops and add the download's hot section as rss feed ;)

$ dpkg --status appdownloader

...just tells:

Known issues:
-> login and commenting not possible yet
-> some metadata missing
But no idea yet how to see from what repository it came from.
Also time when it was installed would be nice to know.

I've written a script to tell you what repository an installed package is currently in. For install time you'd have to look at the timestamps on the relevant metadata files in /var/lib/dpkg/info.

So apps in this
http://maemo.org/downloads/updated/Maemo5/25/
can be from devel and testing too?!

Another way to learn about newly released app is through My-maemo.com. However, I am not sure if the info ever get updated after the release of an app.

No, all the apps there should be from the main maemo.org repository. If you've got -devel or -testing enabled then you may have updated to a version from there though.

Ok cool, just making sure. I dont have -devel or -testing enabled. I just set up an rss feed for that link I posted... so I can see when new apps go in there...

According to http://maemo.org/packages/view/batterygraph/ version 0.3.0 reached stable yesterday, and 0.2.2 was in there from early March. I've no idea why you're failing to find it in App Manager.

Try updating your App. Manager.

Front page of the App. Manager there should be a big "Update" button. This refreshes the Application database on your device (which is needed if you want to install a brand new app).
