Re: Sprint's WiMAX monster phone by HTC
Looks purdy. Now give me that with a physical keyboard and I'm willing to change my n900 :P

Re: Sprint's WiMAX monster phone by HTC
Looks like my N810 WiMAX will become my back-up unit this summer.
I have not upgraded my Sprint phone for over 8 years, the time has come. :D Damn, what a device. |
Re: Sprint's WiMAX monster phone by HTC
Nokia came so close with the N810 WiMAX, but left the party too early.

How good is the wimax coverage in the states?

Pretty sure it will be at least the same screen size as this bad boy and with a similar cpu power. It has to! First symbian^3 phone will have 4 inch screen, hdmi, snapdragon etc. so I can't see why the first meego device would not hold even better specs. I really don't think it will be with wimax though. |

Re: Sprint's WiMAX monster phone by HTC
Ooh
Just needs a hardware keyboard, the accuracy of a resistive touchscreen, and a way to directly access the phone's hardware without going through a java intepreter (yes I know Android is working on that). |
Re: Sprint's WiMAX monster phone by HTC
Wow that phone is beautiful, nokia needs to come out with something similar with meego.
If not my money may be going somewhere else. 4.3 inches and keyboard with amoled. and i'm in heaven. |
Re: Sprint's WiMAX monster phone by HTC
I am actually not impressed. Am i missing something?
The screen is cool dont get me wrong. definitely a nice size. but i wont be able to see hd difference on that screen. matter of fact people thought i had hd when i was watching a DVD on my n900. now i could plug it up to a hd tv but then that would mean i would have to carry a pouch or the wires with me everywhere which is not practical. not only that i would also need good pc with decent hd editor to make a movie or else i would just have to point, shoot and upload without touch ups to my video which i think is kind of lame personally. 8megapixel is cool but once you reach 3.0 megapixels it really starts to not matter. UNLESS you are carrying an SLR lens which no phone carries -_-. The processor is the common processor they are using is the same one the nexus one and i believe a sony and samsung phone has today, so no big deal really. especially since the ram isnt really much higher we have a total of 1g app memory right? just saying, Also it is still not as open as our current device and is restricted to one carrier. btw i heard of another arm processor that is supposedly way faster. i am wondering which phone will carry it. Like i said the screen is nice but that is all i can see especially with little 4g coverage. matter of fact there isnt enough 3g coverage as it is with 90% of the carriers now lol. but we'll see how it goes. Is it just me or are all of these non keyboard (thus) non game emulator friendly phones beginning to get old?
|
Re: Sprint's WiMAX monster phone by HTC
That's the first non-Nokia phone I've seen that I would jump ship for.

Thou i was a Sony Ercisson P-Series fan before they ****ed up with the P990 and had to jump ship to the E90. HTC are very poor on video quality though so might have a bit of problem switching as i record my dance practise sessions. Note to Nokia: if you can make a meego/symbian 4 device with the same specs? I AM SOLD, along with many of my fellow cool geeks in this community |

HTC: Hey Steve
Apple: What the F*** do you want?! HTC: Checkmate. Apple: *gulp* ....... *cocks pistol* .................................................. ............................................... This is the reason why apple is suing HTC. -.- |
Re: Sprint's WiMAX monster phone by HTC
Bah.
I don't get this hype. Screenresolution is the same as with the good'ol N900, it doesn't have a hardware-keyboard and as far as i have seen will likely have way less internal space than Iphone or N900. On top of this, the form-factor is rather fugly. The only thing that appeals to me is the HDMI out, but i doubt that this device will be able to play 1080p Movies (no words about a special chip). If you want to drool over a Cellphone multi-media monster, look at the "Trinity Phone" by Zii Labs. HDMI out, 1080p playback, Soundchip by Creative, OpenGL 2.0 support and Dual-Boot out-of-the-Box. Plus, i don't see the use for wimax on a cellphone. What can you do with it, for which 3.5G isn't sufficient? Maybe in a few years, but today this is no more than a flashy "sounds good but has no real-life use except for a handfull of people". We don't even have full 3G Coverage, so why (as a customer) spend money on a technology thats barely usable? |

Good god!!! what a monster but we asian wouldn't get this one for sure..it's cdma not gsm... lucky americans :(

Re: Sprint's WiMAX monster phone by HTC
This new HTC device is indeed a MONSTER. The Trinity looks kinda wik et tee WAK...yet neither is sexy enough for me to ditch my N900. Instead, I will just get the HTC device on Sprint as well.
"We don't even have full 3G Coverage, so why (as a customer) spend money on a technology thats barely usable?" To answer this question dack001...the thing is, this is what we do...not necessarily "customers/consumers"... We are GADGETEERS!! We loVe them, we lust for them, we yeaRN for the attainment of new gadgets and devices to tamper with, to critique, to connect, etc... Just as you said in your question: people were buying devices on a slowly (but surely) developing 3G network, but they...we...still purchased the device(s) of our liking. Even with the N900...it is YET to have reached it's true potential...yet, you, myself, and many others OWN one (before it is usable to its optimum). |
Re: Sprint's WiMAX monster phone by HTC
There is a huge difference:
The first UMTS-Devices (which sold rather bad) had some usefull additional features (they where among the first mobiles with a camera) which didn't depend on UMTS and where somehow outstanding. The N900, while (in your opinion) not having reached its full potential, already does a lot more than most other Devices. Running easy debian isn't just a toy, with OOo and Clam mail it has real-life use. The HTC on the other side has no real outstanding uses and comes with a formfactor that tops my old E61 in bulkyness by a certain degree (and this is rather hard to achieve). I seriously can't imagine carrying this phone with me as my primary device. And if i use it mainly as a multimedia-player, i could just buy an archos Android-Tablet and get more for less money. I just don't see the joy in buying something just because it is new, when it doesn't come with a good amount of additional features compared to my actual device. |

Re: Sprint's WiMAX monster phone by HTC
I was hoping this (or something similar / HD2 with android 2.1) would be coming to the UK but it seems not. So have just ordered a HTC Desire on pre order. Specs look tasty. Will run it aside the N900 for a month and winner will be kept.
To me the N900 just doesnt cut it as a phone. Browser is good. Keyboard too small for my fingers, both HW and screen. I like some of the predictive stuff on the HTCs and fat fingers etc - seems to receive rave reviews. Most top 5's have HTC at 1 or 2 over the iPhone. and wheres the N900 - 6th or 7th best.... Cant wait for my own personal trial. The looser ends up on the bay! |
Re: Sprint's WiMAX monster phone by HTC
geez some of the same people here complaining about being 'stuck' with a phone are drooling over a ?wimax? phone? Talk about buying into obsolescence. And then under the wimax is CDMA, no thanks.
really the tradeoff on this phone looks like bigger screen instead of keyboard and that just comes down to personal preference. |
Re: Sprint's WiMAX monster phone by HTC
If they succeed in pulling it out with an awesome store, this phone will rock the market.Too bad Nokia failed with Ovi Store :(.

Perfect phone form to me would be generally like the N900 with a slightly larger, about a 3.7-3.8 resistive screen, but overall a little thinner and lighter. |
Re: Sprint's WiMAX monster phone by HTC

Slightly larger n900 size phone, with a resistive screen. Why are sooooo many manufacturers coming out with capacitive screens?! What the heck? Are they much easier on the battery? Cheaper to make? Also, is anyone else worried that on screen keyboards are gonna get better and better and eventually take over the physical slide out keyboard? I like having all these shortcuts and things on the physical keyboard on my n900. I don't see ANY upcoming attractive (specs) phones with physical keyboards... EDIT: And while I'm being a noob here, can someone explain why comparing our 600mhz n900 processor to a 1 ghz snapback processor is a black and white issue? I always see people saying "well yea 1ghz is more but n900 has..." |
Re: Sprint's WiMAX monster phone by HTC
hmm, anyone?
|
Re: Sprint's WiMAX monster phone by HTC
Android sucks though and so do capatitive screens, my work mate has the hd2 and the screen is so un-accurate.
|
Re: Sprint's WiMAX monster phone by HTC
That screen size is what meego needs!
