Here's how I did it Ramjett.

Download and burn the Ubuntu Live CD ISO image from the link on the Wiki, copy the Flasher Deb file and the Global Firmware file onto a USB memory stick.

Reboot your PC with the Ubuntu CD in the drive and select the test without making changes to PC option when it boots up.

Plug your USB memory stick into your machine and double click the deb file to install the Flasher.

Next, and this is particular to me as I'm not familiar with Linux and drive paths, copy the Firmware to your tmp directory.

Turn off your N900 and plug it in to your PC via USB, Ubuntu should see it and have an icon show on the Desktop.

Open Terminal and type:

sudo flasher-3.5 -F /tmp/<firmware-image> -f -R

("/tmp/" is the path to the temp directory and <firmware-image> is the name of the firmware file including the .bin file extension).

The terminal window will display the message "No suitable USB device found" so simply unplug your N900, make sure it's switched off fully, then hold the 'U' key on the N900 keyboard and plug it back in - the PC should then start flashing immediately.

Hi

Thanks for your input, and help at least you didn't enlarge the font and direct me elsewhere, moving swiftly on, I've manged to resolve this issue, I noticed that in XP mode, there is an icon which tells you to connect the usb in n900 update mode, that I did and the flash started almost immediately. Thanks again.

I used the Nokia Software Updater tool, it was all done in GUI and worked like a dream.
