Got my n900 a few days ago.it had the second firmware installed fro factoey.at first it was very very responsive and fast.but after i updated to the third firmware the n900 hot slowed down. it has become irresponsive and very scratchy.
then i decided toflash the device . downloaded maemo flasher on windows then downloaded the international version of the second firmware and then did all the steps in the cmd of windows xp 64 bit.but but my work stops when in the line i see that - it is waiting for a suitable usb device. im stuck there dont know what to do. also i dont understand what is disabling driver signature checking. any help would be helpful. :) |

Re: flashing n900
Hi
I've just tried to flash my N900 to the global firmware using XP mode on my win7, however the cmd prompt hangs at 'not found suitable usb device waiting' any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong and what to do to correct it? I've read all the other threads and cannot find and answer. Thanks in advance. R18 |
Re: flashing n900
I found the best was was to use the Ubuntu Live CD process as described in the Wiki... you don't need to install Ubuntu just run it from the CD and you'll be done in 10 minutes.

geneven,
I've read all the post, however I still can't get my N900 to flash to the global firmware, it stops at looking for a suitable usb device, do you have any suggestions? All greatly received R18 |

As the N900 spreads more, the more people will come here and ask annoying questions that have already been discussed. Take it as a good thing as the more stupid questions means the more this handset is spreading. No matter how much you want to ram information into noobies heads this does'nt help. I would expect more from a Maemo greeter :( |

Download and burn the Ubuntu Live CD ISO image from the link on the Wiki, copy the Flasher Deb file and the Global Firmware file onto a USB memory stick. Reboot your PC with the Ubuntu CD in the drive and select the test without making changes to PC option when it boots up. Plug your USB memory stick into your machine and double click the deb file to install the Flasher. Next, and this is particular to me as I'm not familiar with Linux and drive paths, copy the Firmware to your tmp directory. Turn off your N900 and plug it in to your PC via USB, Ubuntu should see it and have an icon show on the Desktop. Open Terminal and type: sudo flasher-3.5 -F /tmp/<firmware-image> -f -R ("/tmp/" is the path to the temp directory and <firmware-image> is the name of the firmware file including the .bin file extension). The terminal window will display the message "No suitable USB device found" so simply unplug your N900, make sure it's switched off fully, then hold the 'U' key on the N900 keyboard and plug it back in - the PC should then start flashing immediately. |

Thanks for your input, and help at least you didn't enlarge the font and direct me elsewhere, moving swiftly on, I've manged to resolve this issue, I noticed that in XP mode, there is an icon which tells you to connect the usb in n900 update mode, that I did and the flash started almost immediately. Thanks again. R18 |
Re: flashing n900
I used the Nokia Software Updater tool, it was all done in GUI and worked like a dream.
