Re: Next Maemo Device half as thick as the n900 with Qwerty
I love the weight of my N810, yet I don't think it's as thick as the N900. I just hope:
- it has a similar size/weight/screen size as the N810 (I get comments about how cool it looks, and I wonder why Nokia didn't make it a phone). - the bottom half will have a full keyboard (4 line) and directional pad with some space between the keyboard and the bottom of the screen - there is some sort of directional pad for the top half of the device (so I can play games using the touch screen and the directional pad) - full portrait/landscape support so I can use the iPhone version of some websites when I need information quickly |

Everyone who has written anything about the N900 battery time complains about it, and it's pretty much just simply true. You can get it to last a day, but you'd have to turn off stuff. It's not horrid, but it's not good. And that in a device that is thicker than most the concurrent alternatives. In short: Nokia has potential to cut thickness. And the Milestone is making my N900 look fat. I don't like the overall look of it, but they've managed to make it look slim. |

I quite liked the photo of the N98, much more classy than the N-8, from the little I could see...

Nokia phones are made by finnish lumberjacks in Finland .. and ..
iPhone is actually made by aliens on another planet .. what I heard |
Re: Next Maemo Device half as thick as the n900 with Qwerty
Thinner or not, QWERTY is a must, preferably as tactile as on the N900 but with more head-space of the top row (several millimeters would do just fine). However, if it does sport a capacitive screen as the rumors have it - count me out! I'm not compromising the precision and touch-it-with-anything (especially nails and stylus) features for some flimsy multitouch or feather-light touch registering - for the first there is a solution from Stantum, for the second - grow some f. muscles!
As for the screen size, 4" would be optimal, I wouldn't go above that. A digital compass and an useful hot-swapping microSD slot would really be nice, and I'd literally drool if it would have an USB host connector. |

Imagine trying to open a Windows menu and select something from it with big fat fingers when using VNC or RDP. "Oh, you could pinch zoom every time you wanted to click anything" "Yeah, right. Please shut up." |

And you'd have to extend the touch screen below the bottom of the lcd (make that amoled thanks). |
