A great music player for the minimalists

Just found EasyPlayer in extras-devel. It loads up in exactly 3 seconds, plays your audio files and nothing more and it's LOUD! The best thing is that it uses around 15% CPU. It doesn't look pretty but that's the whole point.

I could wish for better folder organization but oh well, it does the job!

Thanks a lot! I'm actually working on version 0.3. What do you mean with "better folder organization"? EasyPlayer has the concept to display all directories which contain music files in a single list, and you can show/hide the files in the directories. Version 0.3 will save its playlist, so that all startups will even be faster (except the first one).

What I would be interested in is an audio player that can respond to avrc (buetooth) commands.

Well, my music is organized into folders. For example, I could have a directory called classic rock and inside of that directory could be another one called pink floyd or something.
Instead of showing that easyplayer shows all the folders that are in that folder. It kind of ruins the whole organization part...

I tried it. It worked, but I get these Economist mp3 files weekly, and the way I keep track of where I am is by deleting the ones I have listened to. EasyPlayer didn't have a delete function, so I went back to the default player. It looked good otherwise, though.

You mean controlling the player with bluetooth headset controls? The default media player supports that nicely.

sounds promising...may I request a sleep function? something to autokill or pause the app in 15/30/45/etc min....

thanks for this....

@azz: EasyPlayer has a "sleep/timeout/suspend/whatever you want to call it" function. Try it. The new 0.3 Version is in extras-devel.

Wouldn't it be better to expose a pause command over D-Bus and have support for EasyPlayer added to Sleeper (which focuses on providing a good, usable sleep timer)? I'd also add EasyPlayer to headphoned to pause playback when headphones are unplugged.

yes it does, and so far it is the only one that does. thats kinda my point, since we are talking about a media player that is not the default one...

I think the player is awesome. Fantastic job, Klaus. The only idea I can offer is perhaps a Preference option to switch on metatags instead of filename because my songs are all jumbled when using filenames. Hopefully you can incorporate in a later version?

Even if you aren't, still an amazing app! Devs like you give me more faith in the community.

I'm thinking about that. Are there any examples/docs how to do this?

I like to include this in the 0.4 version. But, it may take some time. I'm busy with other things...

Well, sorry, I actually won't change the way the music files are displayed in the browser. Maybe I'll try a second folder level in the browser if I have some spare time... I think you should try symfonie.

I put it on my 'todo' list...

I do use symfonie sometimes. It's a great player with lots of potential but right now it used 40-50% CPU usage while active (as opposed to 25% on mediabox and the default player).
Not to mention it uses 60-70% while the EQ is activated hahaha

klausr - just installed, looks good.

think I found a bug:
I have two folders that both contain a track with the exact same name (01 - Main title.mp3). If I try to play track 1 in the second folder, it plays the track from the first folder in the list.
