Re: OS 2007 on 770 mk2 now available
Well I've installed it on my 770 and so far it's looking very good!
I haven't tested much, but the browser (which obviously hasn't been updated) seems to be working fine, control panel seems OK, the home page is as it should be. The first problem I've hit is that it's not possible to stream from AccuRadio HitKast - the error is "File format not supported" (have reported this in Garage). No crashes so far! :) EDIT: Hmmm, looks like MP3 codec won't be shipped in the OS 2007 on 770 firmware - according to the end of Markku's Wiki log: Quote:

Re: OS 2007 on 770 mk2 now available
I tried OS2007 on N770 too and I am seriously impressed.
It works and gave new life to my N770. So far everything I use (browser, media player, internet radio applet, osso-xterm) works fine. Even the browser (still old opera) has newer (IMO much better) interface and networking/browsing seems to be a bit faster to me. My webmail took long time from login to inbox in OS2006 (probably due to lot of redirects) but is as quick with OS2007 as on my N800 :-) And what is also nice - you can dualboot between OS2006 and 2007 to have best of both worlds. Of course until OS2007 is better supported by applications because then OS2006 will be obsolete. BTW if you have latest OS2006 and bootmenu installed you can just extract rootfs.jffs2 from FIASCO image and flash just this and do not lose bootmenu. Yes OS2007 on N770 is unsupported but what does support mean exactly in this case? Are your favourite OS2006 bugs fixed? :-) |
Re: OS 2007 on 770 mk2 now available
I agree fanoush - it works suprisingly well. In fact, so well it would be nice to think it might even be worthy of ongoing/official support (something pink just floated past my window...)

How does one get from there to dual-booting between 2006 and 2007 ?... TIA fp |
Re: OS 2007 on 770 mk2 now available
You will need to flash OS 2007 on the 770 then copy it to the MMC card. Having done that you then need to reflash with OS 2006. You should now be in a situation where you have OS 2006 on your internal flash and OS 2007 on your MMC card.
As fanoush says, flash only rootfs from each OS image to avoid losing your existing initfs. |
Re: OS 2007 on 770 mk2 now available
If you do not want to lose OS2006 in flash you can backup it first via mkfs.jffs2 (when booted from mmc) as mentioned here http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...8&postcount=31 , then reflash with OS2007 rootfs, clone it to mmc (if you have some spare partition on mmc) and reflash again with previous OS2006 backup. Sadly extracting jffs2 image directly to mmc is not that easy.

Re: OS 2007 on 770 mk2 now available
Thanks to both for the pointers. First I'll need a bigger MMC though, 1 gig is not going to cut it for all that :-)

Re: OS 2007 on 770 mk2 now available
I tried the Hacker Edition and it look very good and it feels much faster than OS 2006.
The question is only what I can install on it. I was not able to install the enhanced osso-xterm because liaux0 was missing. This lib was not needed for the OS 2006. I tried offline since I have no wlan at home. |

Re: OS 2007 on 770 mk2 now available
Would someone with OS2007on770 mind testing Maemo Mapper to see if it works in that environment? I imagine you have to install it from the bora repository (as opposed to the gregale repo)... Just knowing that it installs and starts up (with a blank screen) is fine. Map downloading and bluetooth GPS receiver communication would be a bonus, if possible.
Thank you in advance. |
Re: OS 2007 on 770 mk2 now available
gnuite,
Thank you for your masterpiece and I’m really surprised that you are still interested in such “rare species” as OS2007on770. Mapper was the third application installed on OS2007on770 (after becomeroot and xterm). Installation for 1.4.2-5 went fine and everything but “second bonus” works OK. (I’ve tested map downloading for Googlemap only). Unfortunately maemo-mapper is exited with “Invalid instruction” error in the following cases: - successful connect to BT-GPS; - load stored track or route; Sorry, did not test much further, because looks like it is FPU instruction caused application exit. |

Re: OS 2007 on 770 mk2 now available
Just to make sure before trying. I now have boot menu on latest 2006, with latest 2006 on MC. Can I simply flash 2007 hacker edition, install boot menu, and start 2007 on internal flash and, if needed, 2006 OS from MC?

Yes, I tested maemo mapper with OS2007 HE on N770: it works fine with 1.4.4-2 while 1.4.4-3 segfaults at start. |

Anyone tried something SDL based on this? Tried scummvm and it crashes when initializing sound
Code:

Re: OS 2007 on 770 mk2 now available
OK, reported in garage project tracker
https://garage.maemo.org/tracker/ind...d=164&atid=681 and found a fix, see the URL, hopefully it seems to be configuration issue (if pcm2 is not needed for something else) |

I tried building maemo mapper with debug enabled to investigate this, but the version i built never crashed! So I rebuilt with debug back off and it keeps on working! Not a single crash so far (in about 2 weeks of usage) which is much better than on the same version of MM on 2006! On 2006 I used to get a crash on pretty much every long journey I took. So yet another reason 2007on770 is much better than 2006 for me! |
Re: OS 2007 on 770 mk2 now available
Thank you for that tip to get sdl pcm working. It is as follows:
As root, edit /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf and replace both occurrences of "pcm3" by "pcm2". The only other problem i've found so far is that my Thinkoutside Stowaway BT keyboard refuses to pair with it. I open control panel -> bluetooth I select "New". "Select a device" panel comes up. I hold down CTRL-FN-FN a couple of seconds and it finds Think Outside Keyboard. I click on the think Outside Keyboard item in the 'Select a device' list "Pair with device" menu comes up and gives a code to enter, and trusted device is checked I click OK 'Pairing' status window comes up. I enter the 4-Digit code number and wait: in various tries I get either an error "Pairing failed. Device resources exceeded. Try again? or Authentication failed. (edit) just tried it again and found i have to hit the Enter (Return) key after entering the code number. Sheesh :) PBCAK ------ The UI is so much slicker. From an audio designer standpoint the clicking sound when you touch the screen is a sharp sound like hitting a nice hard crystal, instead of a piece of cardboard. Funny how these associations colour the feel of the device. Also the dark theme is way cool. Loving it :) |

I tried both the official maemo-mapper and the smuckles version, but have hit a dependency problem: reportedly, libosso-help0 >=2.0.8 is needed. Any clue ? Thanks

I installed X-Term, and issue the following command: gconftool-2 --set /apps/osso/osso_media_server/demux_audio/a pplication_x-icy --type list --list-type string '[application/x-icy,icydemux]' ...that gives multiple errors, so I try to break it up: gconftool-2 ...works set /apps/osso/osso_media_server/demux_audio/a pplication_x-icy ...works but then the "type list" command gives an error, and I still get a "file format not supported" error when trying to stream radio. Any help would be appreciated...I can't be the only one who has failed to make this little hack work, can I? dcarter |
Re: OS 2007 on 770 mk2 now available
It is one command so you should type it on single line like this
Code:
gconftool-2 --set /apps/osso/osso_media_server/demux_audio/application_x-icy --type list --list-type string '[application/x-icy,icydemux]' |

Re: OS 2007 on 770 mk2 now available
Hi,
I managed to find the solution for OS2007 Hacker edition problem with maemo mapper(GPS problem). There are to possible reasons for this problem
In any case, here are the instructions.
If you followed instructions you've got the working maemo mapper on hacker edition mk2. Please, be advised that wherever you install the newer version of the maemo mapper, you might need to repeat the procedure. Cheers, Momcilo |
Re: OS 2007 on 770 mk2 now available
I tried your instructions, but I got the following error:
Package libxau0 in not installed. Any ideas? Edit: apparently all I needed was to add this repository: http://repository.maemo.org/ bora free Of course when I go to download a bunch of maps at once or goto an address it crashes... |

I also had trouble with the "libosso-help0 >=2.0.8 is needed" error message. Just fixed it with the help from Poulsone's answer to you. Here's how I did it: Quote:
It can be added by, on the desktop, going to "Application Manager", hitting the hard-key menu button, then "Tools", the "Application Catalogue...", then "New", then enter the following information: Catalogue name: Maemo.org Web address: http://repository.maemo.org Distribution: bora Components: free non-free extras and leave Disabled Unchecked. Then "OK" After going through those steps I was able to get MaemoMapper to upgrade without the "libosso-help0" error message. . |
Re: OS 2007 on 770 mk2 now available
Hi there,
i just got my hand on a n770 and installed OS 2007 HE. Works great. But i have no sound with sdl-applications. I fixed the alsaconf, so the progs (like scummvm) works, but no sound? Any ideas? |
