Strange... start the application manager, tape on the top of screen, press application catalogs and see if they are not greyed or if there are not any error with them.

if they were grayed they would not appear in the hildon-application-manager.list

Try again later, my problem was because the repositories returned empty results, so application manager didn't report any errors, but I could see lot's of packages installed as they were locally installed with apt-cache policy.

Later everything was OK

What's your firmware version? You need PR1.1 or better for OpenGL ES 1.1 support. (Due to bug #6816 )

Re: Brain Party for Linux (and now for N900)

I seem to have a lot of bugs when I play Brain Party. Sometimes the game will hang in a transition (for example between when one game finishes and the next is to load), or a screen touch (for example, earlier today the game hung when choosing one of the helicopter hats brain boost game). When the game hangs, it also seems to stop all control on the screen until I press the lock button to restart. If i don't need to restart and can close the hung game, using the phone becomes very slow and the phone lags horribly until I do restart it. I noticed on one try of the game the "TEST" part of the "RUN TEST" image appeared corrupted though the game continued to run as normal.

Anyone having the same issues?

When I try doing the update from App Manager, after seemingly downloading the whole 39.5MB it gives me an error message: Downloading Brain Party Failed. Anyone else with this problem and maybe a solution to it?

Re: Brain Party for Linux (and now for N900)

Works fine over here.

Perhaps a network problem? Do you have the space available for the download and install? What does df -h say? Or Storage Usage.

Re: Brain Party for Linux (and now for N900)

Question:

I had brain party installed before, when i had the v3.xxxx.. When i updated to the (leaked) PR1.2 (when it got leaked), i tried to install it, but with no success.. (missing libgles1).

Should't this lib be included in PR 1.2?

How to update it?

Help needed. Since yesterday the game freezes after test 5 before giving the scores. I uninstalled and reinstalled it but I noticed that the graph with the history of scores was not deleted. And still freezes. I would like instructions to make a CLEAN UNINSTALL. Thank you.

I expect uninstalling/reinstalling doesn't reset the games settings file. I expect that if you delete that file while Brain Party isn't running, that should put Brain Party back to its initial state.

Before you delete the file, it would interesting to see what it contains, as that might help diagnose why the game freezes for you. I suggest proceeding as follows:
  1. Run X Terminal
  2. Type "ls -al .brainparty" without quotes and press return
  3. Type "cat .brainparty" without quotes and press return
  4. Copy and paste the output of those two commands into this thread (scroll up, then use the arrow on the to go into highlight mode, drag select the text then choose Copy from the menu)
  5. To delete the file, type "rm .brainparty" without quotes and press return
  6. Close X Terminal

Re: Brain Party for Linux (and now for N900)

Well, I figured why it slows so much here. It has to do with starting new game.

When practicing, I can play for quite a while. However, if I start new game, then abort, then start, then abort a few times is starts digging into the ground.

In Options menu choose Clear scores. That helped me out from stuck after 5th test. Of course all statistics will be lost when scores are cleared. Already opened bonuses remain though.

@thp: I'm just wondering if you (or anyone else) has looked at the new 0.6 or 0.61 code at https://launchpad.net/brainparty ?

@hudzilla: Is launchpad your preferred place where upstream bugs/suggestions can be filed? That is, things that aren't specific to the Maemo port.

Try updating your application sources and then try installing again, as this problem should already been solved.

OK, sorry, I meant Application catalogs (my phone is in Finnish, so I just translated it myself). In application manager just press Download and then at menu select Update catalog (the first option). Then install Brain Party normally.

Re: Brain Party for Linux (and now for N900)

As discussed in http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=53758 it seems Brain Party (and other apps) need to be uninstalled before an OTA PR 1.2 upgrade can take place. Does anyone know why that is, and is it possible to avoid this, maybe by pushing a Brain Party update?

Some dependencies are interfering with the update from PR1.2

Just uninstall the program and reinstall after the update; all your save data will still be there even after the update and reinstall.

It's because Application Manager is ultra conservative in updating packages which it's not explicitly told to and because for some reason Nokia isn't providing gles 1.1 support as part of PR releases. Nothing can be done from application side.

Shouldn't this not matter is the versions are identical?

I am not sure what you are referring to. PR 1.2 updates common opengles library and gles2.0 library. gles 1.1 library should be also updated because it depends on particular version of common opengles library. Because gles 1.1 library isn't included in PR 1.2 release and AM refuses to implicitly update (like apt-get would) gles 1.1 library, OTA upgrade is blocked until gles1.1 library is removed.

Re: Brain Party for Linux (and now for N900)

First of all, I'd like to thank you for this excellent game. I think It's really polished and very enjoyable (when it runs well).

Initially I thought that the game was resource-heavy because it was developed for the iPhone which has no multitasking. I used to used desktop activity manager to turn off all my desktop widgets in order to play, and that made it work better. However, reading through the thread I realise I was very wrong.

Anyway doing wc -l .brainparty returns 837681 .brainparty and displaying the score at the end of a test takes about 2 minutes. I' going to try to clear the scores and see what happens.

Re: Brain Party for Linux (and now for N900)

i've got a question about the actual game... there is a test called "Bomb hunt"... and no matter how many times i actually find the three components of the bomb it always tells me that i failed... is there something i'm missing? i've even tried ordering the components by number of sides (ascending and descending) by order in which they appear (from left to right or top to bottom or the other way around) and it just always gives me a failed mark... always!... is there anything i didn't get?

...that's the only one i'm having issues with... thx!

Is this something that can be filed (or has already been filed) as a bug against Application Manager?

I'm not sure what I was referring to either, this repository thing is new to me.

On the other side of the fence, one could deliver gles 2.0 along with an installation of Brainparty, making the OTA skip the package entirely.

The more I think of it the weirder it sounds for Linux, as you don't embed libraries in packages, but depend on them. So you'd request the 2.0 from a repository that might block you.

Isn't glses available to re-download from repository? Wouldn't updating BP to depend on the 2.0 automatically pull 2.0 and allow OTA to proceed?

Re: Brain Party for Linux (and now for N900)

I've finaly installed brain party on my pr 1.2...

With the leaked version, i couldn't install it, and when i updated it to the official version, the problem didn't disapear.

The solution i found was:

On the "maemo-extras" repo, the catalog was set to find stuff for "fremantle-pr 1.2" only, so i've added a new catalog set for "fremantle" (without the "-pr 1.2"). It solved the issues.
