Use a DSLR? Want remote shutter firing? Try Shutter app...

I love the IR shutter firing app - I've had it installed for about amonth now and it's invaluable for firing the DSLR I use (Nikon D90) when it's on a tripod and likely to use a long exposure time. I'd really like to see it get pushed to Extras (I've not been involved in development or anything - I just think it's a great little thing!).

So, if you use a DSLR give this app a test and if you like it, vote for it to be promoted to Extras! (It's only had one vote so far - from me!)

Things like this are what makes Maemo and the N900 so great for me. Thanks for this app :)

@noobmonkey - It says it works with Canons...

@rm42 - even if it doesn't specifically say it supports pentax might be worth trying? And then putting in a request to the app developer???

Hoping to get a D5000 in the next few weeks so hope it works with that (think it should as the Nikon IR seems to be generic accross all the models..)

Pentax cams will be supported in the next release. I already had two people contacting me and supplying remote codes (and even a patch). Must just put it all together over the next weekend.

The D90 and D5000 both list the remote ML-L3 as its infrared remote.

Have tried it with an Olympus - it works and it's useful, but the IR on the N900 is nowhere near as strong as an actual remote unfortunately. An actual remote will bounce off walls and be picked up by the camera, whereas the N900 has to be pointed straight at the camera's sensor to work.
So handy at a pinch, but not something you want to use for anything more than messing around.
Not to mention that the hit area of the widget is microscopic - why not make it a fullscreen app?

What I'd love to know is whether Nikon DSLRs, esp. the D40, can be controlled remotely not just to open/close shutter, but also to set exposure, zoom, focus, etc.

beg to differ - I've found it very useful for firing shutter when camera on tripod... ok so it's not as strong as the dedicated remote but still does what it says on the can...
