Just enable devel and install it. Enabling devel doesn't make your device unstable

I know that but I don't want to risk updating all the apps to devel lol.

Re: My Facebook client for the n900

Ok I just installed it and will keep posting my comments in this thread as I notice things. For now, I suppose there should be a better UI for logging in. The current log-in page feels "out of the application" and the password field doesn't show characters as you type so you don't know what you are typing.

I tried logging in and it said "Error loading news feed: 5 (unauthorized source IP)" (EDIT: Its working now. I think I entered the wrong password because I couldn't see what I was typing)

Another suggestion: I suppose right now the application only has the ability to look at status updates and comment on them. Right? Instead of showing the thread of the original post and the comments like a conversation, wouldn't it look better if the original post was somehow formatted differently from the comments?

It doesn't auto update. You can ignore the updates

I tried to post a comment and it says "The user hasn't authorized the application to perform this action."

Try setting your status with Facebrick first. This triggers it to ask for authority. Once I had done this, I could comment freely.

Cheers,
Mark.

Hi there,

No. I used to distribute debs seperately of extras-devel, but this was bad for a number of reasons, so I don't wish to keep doing it.

It will be out of extras-devel at some point in the future obviously. I don't have a timeline for when, as it largely depends on how long the work takes - and how long I have available to work on it. Considering I have brik helping out as well, though, it won't be as long. :)

I too can confirm this bug. This kind of makes the application useless for me for the moment. Hopefully it will get fixed soon.

I've had a busy week, as I've been travelling, but I'll try to look into this tomorrow.

Regardless: another minor release will be coming soon, with the new feature of being able to configure font size, as well as faster loading of user avatars and images.

Hey woot have a beer on me. Thanks for all the great work

Re: My Facebook client for the n900

OK, I didn't get around to looking at foreign characters today. Instead, I worked on some code that should fix long names messing up the display, and make tweaks to the GUI a lot easier in future.

Still needs more work, but I hope to have it ready for the next release.

@Phil: thanks! Sent you a mail :)

I think it's about time for some teasers.

So, without further ado, I present to you a sneak peek of what will (probably) be 0.5.0!

First up, the new settings dialog, brought to you by brik. And it actually works. After a lot of soul searching (and a half-working implementation) of changing size with the volume keys (and an option for this), I decided not to do it this way, as it is incredibly annoying to have to change app to make music less noisy when someone talks to you etc.

But, you blind people will still be catered for. ;)

Re: My Facebook client for the n900

Next up, a view of the (work in progress) slight rework of the GUI.

This looks small, but it's actually involved a lot of research (see for example http://blog.rburchell.com/2010/06/vi...modelview.html - this is using the technology I outline there).

I'm not yet happy with it for a few reasons (padding, information presented, and it's too slow scrolling at present), but that will all be fixed.

I also hope to add a bit more info here, like the number of likes, perhaps.

(Finally, just a (second) reminder that brik and I are now accepting donations for our work on FaceBrick, see: http://rburchell.com/projects/donate/ if you are interested in buying us a beer - or a pepsi in brik's case. ;))

Hope you like what you see!

Re: My Facebook client for the n900

I should probably note (for those that don't read the blog post) that the GUI rework will be *significantly* easier to alter in future, which overcomes one of the big hurdles I've had developing FaceBrick.

Writing the display code the way I did previously is not easy to extend to add features or alter layout. Now, it's going to be a lot easier. :)

Is the green notification from Facebrick or is that just a mod

If you mean the status area, the green circle with an exclamation point, that's for IM accounts in conversations, Green means online, the exclamation point means that one or more of the accounts have errors.

w00t in one night I seem to have fallen in love with you, between this and the portrait-keyboard I'm a happy camper tonight!

One suggestion though, as far as status updates go is it possible to implement an auto-caps? I keep forgetting to push shift at the end of a sentence :p

Mm. Definitely is *possible*, but...

I turned it off.

Mostly because I tend to write my updates like this:
[Robin Burchell] is wasting time on forums.

Having to shift to uncapitalise the first letter got annoying quickly...

I'll think on this a bit.

Maybe you can talk to DanielWould with Witter about that? I have just the opposite problem, I can't UNcapitalize a letter after a period... :(

The only solution in this case is to make it toggle-able :D

How many friends do you handle with Facebrick? My +400 seem to be too much for this great application.
Great work nonetheless!

Yup: "Send below decks" and it won't show up in the newsfeed.

Re: [Announce] FaceBrick: Facebook client for Maemo with a rich UI

If you hide it on facebook then it should be hidden on facebrick.

Re: [Announce] FaceBrick: Facebook client for Maemo with a rich UI

I'm getting this error while trying to post via facebrick:
facebook error is 104 - "Incorrect signature"

Seems like everything works fine while using only a-z (not special characters like едц), a bit annoying for us swedish ppl :)

looking forward to the next release! I love the app and it's so easy to use :)

Re: [Announce] FaceBrick: Facebook client for Maemo with a rich UI

I have noted a quite annoying bug with Facebrick:

If internet connection gets lost while FB is running it opens the select connection dialog for each sync attempt of FB.
The annoying part is, even reconnecting does not prevent the connect dialog from popping up multiple times (Seems like the longer the device was disconnected the more often the select connection dialog pops up).

Not sure if this was also reported or is it just me having this problem?

Besides that, great app! Please keep developing this baby!

Hi,

just receiving this error:

Error loading Newsfeed 5 (unauthorized source ip address)

Re: [Announce] FaceBrick: Facebook client for Maemo with a rich UI

I can update my status, but I don't get a feed. Nothing shows up below the text entry box, not even if I tell facebrick to sync. What am I doing wrong?

Hi all,

As you might have noticed, I've started using Github for FaceBrick.

I'm also now using it for bug tracking, and feature roadmapping etc.

This should make it a lot easier for you interested, budding coders to help contribute to FaceBrick if you want.

If you're interested, please, let me know and I'll be happy to mentor you.

The project is up at:
http://github.com/rburchell/facebrick

Issue tracking is available at:

P.S. Feel free to vote for bugs, if you're a user, but note that when stuff gets implemented depends *a lot* on how much developer power there is to put into things. I've only so many hours in the day. ;)

How on earth do you install this?

Followed instructions at:

http://w00t.dereferenced.net/facebrick/

and I get an error message in xterm saying no such file or directory when I type dpkg -i facebrick_0.2.2_armel.deb
