Yes, using the inbuilt application manager, however, you need to enable extra-devel before you will find it. There is a lot of stuff in there that can be harmful to the phone. As you are unaware of this, I dont think I should advise you how to do it. I recommend looking around the forums a bit and working out exactly how these things works before trying facebrick.

Thanks. I have the developers catalogue as well as testing open and still cannot find it.

I can't see to use this. When I try to comment on friends' updates I get a message saying e.g. "Error Liking Post - The user's hasn't authorized the application to perform this function."

Does this mean we can only see updates but not comment on them?

Write a status update before trying to do anything.

Had the same problem, this solution worked perfectly, thanks!
I love this app, especially the "via Nokia N900". Makes my friends all jealous. ;) Keep up the good work!

Not sure if someone has already asked this w00t but do you plan to support link posting (with thumbnail) along with status updates?

With this in place I would never need to go to the facebook site - well apart from the odd picture photo gallery I look at.. :)

Re: [Announce] FaceBrick: Facebook client for Maemo with a rich UI

Hi,

Just a quick announcement - non-ASCII characters in status updates etc should be working again after the libqfacebook 0.1.2 update, which should be heading to extras-devel soon.

See also: http://github.com/rburchell/facebrick/issues/issue/2

Thanks!

w00t 2010-06-24 22:03

Re: [Announce] FaceBrick: Facebook client for Maemo with a rich UI

FaceBrick 0.5 has been pushed to extras-devel just now, and should be available for download within the hour.

Changes:
  • Add a settings dialog
  • Add a setting to change refresh interval of newsfeed (#9)
  • Add a setting to change text size (#7)
  • Fix non-ASCII characters causing problems in updates again (#2)
  • Work around Facebook permissions problem (#4)

#4 will cause a dialog to flash up each time you start FaceBrick. It may linger if you have a bad internet connection, but it should go away afterwards. If not, just cancel it yourself.

This is (for the moment) unavoidable to ensure you have the right permissions. Patches welcome.

I'd like to thank Brik for her input into this release.

I'd also like to take a moment to remind everyone that we are accepting donations for FaceBrick, please see: http://rburchell.com/projects/donate/ if you are interested in helping out.

Thanks, and enjoy!

Awesome! I discovered this app (0.4) yesterday, installed it and really like it so far. Upgraded to 0.5 this morning, and am trying it out now. This needs to be pushed to testing and extras, to let the masses know.

Great work!

Agreed, its one of the very few indispensable apps on my n900. (Esp now that it doesn't keep eating memory until it crawls. :) ..)

Now if only someone would port newsrob from android I'd be set.

There is a google reader client for Maemo. Look for 'grr'. :)

grr is great! Excellent little application that allows you to view and sync your Google Reader account. Very handy. Well worth installing.

Looks like the number of worthwhile applications to download to the N900 is really taking off (and the Ovi Store finally has some decent games).

Thank you to all the developers creating these little gems. Your efforts are appreciated.

Hoping that Facebrick will appear in Extras shortly.

Hmm, Curious whether its possible to have an enhancement to see update from a specific "friend", instead of the latest one from everybody? If there is any option for that, that would be great :).

Something like a stalker mode? :D

On a serious note, I know you fine tune those settings in the "Edit Options" on the bottom right on the Facebook page but I dont know if they would reflect in this app.

As of today I am getting an extra login screen on the first launch of Facebrick after booting the device. I presume Facebook made changes and you are aware of this but... anyone else having the same?

Re: [Announce] FaceBrick: Facebook client for Maemo with a rich UI

Yup, I can report the same issue Jaco2k. But you don't have to log back in, you can just hit the top part (where the Facebook prompt isn't is).

Not really, no. Last I heard the dev was working on a revamped UI and a widget. Only thing is that he moved support out of this thread into a site - I don't have URL right now.

This was done as a stopgap solution to work around problems with Facebook permissions model (see all the reports of people not being able to see any newsfeed posts, write comments, etc...)

If you're willing to look into a better solution, then by all means, I'd love a patch :)

No, development has always happened outside this thread. This thread is where I interact with people using it - bugs are tracked elsewhere and code is stored elsewhere.

'elsewhere' being http://github.com/rburchell/facebrick/

I don't think we are talking about the same thing here... there really is now an extra login, one that does not belong to Facebrick but is invoked by it and that as someone pointed out can be canceled by tapping out of it. Do you need a video capture?

Re: [Announce] FaceBrick: Facebook client for Maemo with a rich UI

Any feature list for coming additions to this?
thing i'd like to see

*clicking commented images makes them full screen
*keep your own status on TOP (doesn't get lost through other users updates)
*A counter to show which commented topics have replys on
*UI Theme (Option to switch to a Blue / White theme to match FB
*Widget to allow updates from the desktop to status

As it stands its more or less an rss stream of updates you can add a comment to for me - the best bit is soley the option to change your status because currently this is the fastest way of doing it but other than that it lacks some largely wanted features.

An up coming feature list would be nice or whats being worked on as present no update for sometime

Hopefully there will be an update to facebrick soon.
Kamilla posted an update on her blog detailing the progress she has been making with the desktop widget.

For those of you that haven't been following it check out the link below.

And Kamilla, thanks for all the work you've put into this.
