Re: My Facebook client for the n900

Great progress! Haven't had much time testing (not a big facebook user), but since you have to select a post to view comments/like, some indication (icon/whatever) that you commented/liked a post would be useful.

Also, error messages are white text on the yellow banner, near impossible to read when they flash on the screen.

in fact the app is in the repo, just checked, but not up to date ^^ it's the 0.1.1

Ya no update yet :( any ideas why? Nokia wants us to use their shitty FB app haha

am not very comfortable using .deb files.

any idea when you plan to update the repo with the latest versions? thanks

Re: My Facebook client for the n900

The package importer seems to be down, it's not app-specific.
Just click on the deb links to open them in App Manager, you don't need to use terminal to install them (only on PR1.1.1 aka 3.2010)

The problem isn't the placement of posts (Conversations IM/SMS works this way too) but that I don't have good techniques for autoscroll/etc yet.

This will be addressed (better) in the future.

Thanks for your feedback!

But I forgot to mention that I had another problem:

In the dialog where I had to enter my Facebook credentials the submit button did not work for me. Ok, simply used the return button to submit the credentials...
But in the next page for the extended permissions the allow-button did also not work...
I checked the permissions for the NokiaN900 application on my FB profile. Both "Access my data, when I am not using the application" and "Publish content on my wall" are checked (permission descritions are translated by me, so they might look similar to you). Its not possible to give additional permissions to the application.

Dont know, but maybe its related to the problem that Facebrick shows nothing?
Are there permissions missing?

Hmm. Your case is a really weird one. Are you sure there are items in your feed in FB? If so, FB isn't giving them to us - nor is it giving facebrick an error.

You can try tapping the menu on the main screen and logging out - write your user/pass in a notes application and copy them to the login screen. Currently it does odd things to it for some people which perhaps might have caused you problems?

I am looking into this, yes. Thanks for the feedback!

I think this is a Qt bug (probably already fixed in PR1.2). I'll be talking to the Qt people about it tomorrow.

As MohammadAG says - this isn't something I can solve unfortunately. fMMS and other apps are having similar problems at the moment.

In the meantime, if you click the .deb on the link I gave in the release post, it will update it for you - with the same content that will be going into extras-devel.

I know it might sound a bit shady, but if you trust me enough to install my app from e-d - then surely you trust me enough to pull it from there for the time being.

I will get it into extras-devel as soon as I can. I appreciate your patience and acknowledge that this is very frustrating.

Thankx for your answer w00t!

Sure there are items on my news feed in FB (at least several for each today and the last few days plus even the status updates I posted from Facebrick do not show up within Facebrick but only on FB itself).
I already used the logout button and entered my credentials multiple times using the notes copy trick, using the virtual keyboard as well as hardware keyboard.
Dont think the problem is here as I am able to post status updates from Facebrick my credentials must me correct and accepted by FB.
Guess the problem is the submit / allow access buttons in the authentication dialog. As I described they just wont work with me and thus I am not able to finish the second step with giving extended permission by clicking "Allow Access".
You have any idea why these buttons do not work???

Just for completeness:
I installed the version from extras-devel first and then the latest .deb file from your website.
Is it possible that this caused some trouble?

Nope, and nope, unfortunately.

Can you run this (in xterm):
apt-cache show libqt4-maemo5-gui | grep Version

Thanks.

Nokia-N900-51-1:~# apt-cache show libqt4-maemo5-gui | grep Version
Version: 4.6.2~git20100212-0maemo1

Re: My Facebook client for the n900

Update:
Ran facebrick through xterm, logged out, closed xterm, ran facebrick from xterm again, logged in using onscreen keyboard = success!
Everythings working 100% now. Don't know what went wrong but it obviously fixed itself. Great looking app, i quite like the hildon look (moreso than a facebook theme). I definitely agree that maybe showing the original post when going to comment a post should be implemented, and also showing who posts are going to? Is that possible? For example, Person A saying "Happy Birthday" to Person B, would only come up as "Person A : Happy Birthday". The app is still young and I can definitely see HEAPS of potential. You have done well ! Good work and keep it up w00t, we all appreciate your hard efforts here.

I find this GUI perfect

I guess we all need a facebook client to do more than just statuses. Personally I don't even care about statuses I mainly check pictures, wall posts and inbox

Keep up the good work

Re: My Facebook client for the n900

thanks woot! this app is amazing, definately something i have been hanging out for since before i bought the N900. looking forward to it getting even better!

I second the need to state who a post is directed to (the happy birthday example above), but it sounds like you already know what you are talking about, and i trust it will come when ready.

i thought i might add, that after i installed facebrick, i had to restart my device before it let me log into my facebook account. not sure if this is a known bug or not.

thanks!l

Re: My Facebook client for the n900

just one more thing...

I just liked a post, but i want to revoke my 'like', so i went to unlike the post in facebrick, and have the option "dislike post". i know its just a matter of wording, but I am not saying that I dislike the post by removing my 'like', I am just wanting to unlike my like!!

sorry to be confusing, and the terminology probably differs from person to person, but I am just suggesting that dislike should be changed to unlike, to reflect how it is is on the actual facebook page.

i like this app :)

TheBootroo 2010-04-12 09:31

Re: My Facebook client for the n900

i'm loving it, overall since last update, but i would prefer a button for 'like' instead of menu item ;-)

and i would prefer goto launching touch.facebook.com instead of www.facebook.com because its more fingers-friendly

Re: My Facebook client for the n900

I noticed that Facebrick now appears in the Repositories!
Is it possible to download and run the app straight away now?
(I tried but it didn't work for me)

TheBootroo 2010-04-12 13:55

Re: My Facebook client for the n900

one more idea : i would expect posts to be quoted on the top of post detail page because its troublin to be on a blank page after clicking on a post entry....

and another yet, i would love horizontal lines separators between entries to increase readability and get more stuck to hildon guidelines (look at contact list, update list, conversations list ....)

I don't know if this is possible, since I just use the URL Facebook give me. I'll look into it.

The version in the repositories is out of date. See the announcement for v0.2.2 release.

It will be updated when extras-devel is working again.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. There *are* seperators between items. The same as is present in Contacts.

The visual distinction will be easier to see in the near future anyway. I've some UI improvements from m165's mockup which I'll be stealing :)

If you can't install it. Just install it from the repositories (libqfacebook and facebrick) then update to 0.2.2 from the .deb on w00t's website

Actually, it looks like maybe extras-devel got fixed, as it seems to be up to date in there now: http://maemo.org/packages/view/facebrick/

By dislike people mean removing your like. You can't dislike in facebook

This is purely bad terminology on my part. "Disliking" is the removal of liking. I'll reword it in the next release.

saxen 2010-04-12 18:27

Re: My Facebook client for the n900

it used to be "unlike" ;)

Re: My Facebook client for the n900

facebrick 0.2.3

* The original post is now shown when viewing comments (thanks to jaysire @ tmo and others)
* Downscale avatars greater than 50px - Facebook occasionally give us these for some reason
* Correctly display newlines in status/comments (thanks to zombiepig @ tmo)
* Change 'Dislike' text to 'Unlike'

Hopefully landing in extras-devel soon.

that's great!
but emh...about posts..why are they shown in inverse order!? i mean from the bottom to the top?! it seems to be a bit unconventional, don't you think?

btw great work, this app is getting better day by day!!

.....I kinda agree with this! It would be better if new posts were at the top than the bottom!

Also, one other thing which I think I've mentioned before - whenever I post an update from this app, it never says (on my wall, profile or anywhere- checking from a pc or a different platform) that the update was posted from an 'N900' - like it does if you post from Twitter or some other source?!

Not a huge problem but would be nice to show others that we can post from our N900s as well....!!!

can you add something that will show someone status from wall post. maybe colours or some marking to show status and maybe icon for wall.

cheers
