The great thing is Apple has raised the bar. Competitors are forced to provide "at least' 9 hour battery life. I actually hope the new Iphone makes a huge advancement in battery life too...

And to brings apps to the mix, the multi-device paradigm of MeeGo and QT base might (who knows) be a boon.

I disagree here, Apps seem to be a requirement for many on a small screen device, but on a 9inch screen with increased resolution these apps for Facebook/Mint/ start losing their luster. I haven't used an iPad yet but most pundits are saying the "magazine" apps are useless and expensive compared to the website alternatives. IMHO the tablet form factor is screaming for well developed websites and web apps that can be scaled up to desktop/laptop and scaled down to smartphone size.

Gaming is of course a different issue and one I think tablets aren't really a perfect platform for either.

The iPad can't do anything more than my N900.
I think it is the usual Apple-fanboyism and hype.

EDIT: I tried to comment on the linked article, but I get "Your comment failed to be submitted." every time. LOL.

It's got a considerably larger screen, which is of importance to some folks. I can more easily recommend an iPad to my parents and grandparents than I can one of the Internet Tablets as a result.

NOTE: this is not a comment on usability at all; my parents are both geeks. ;)

what i hope is that it carries on the python support seen on previous tablets. No need for extra computers to do development on could be really helpful in the long run.

the ipad has 2 batteries, and each 1 is the same size as the iphone. The power coming from the batteries though is MUCH higher than the previous model.

This will probably mean that the next iphone will have more juice, but given the OS 4.0 speculation and its rumored inclusion of 'expose type multitasking' it would mean it needs the extra juice.

Perhaps after the OS 4.0 is updated on the IPAD, it will JUST manage to reach the 10 hours.

I think that Nokia and Apple have quite different target audiences on the tablet market.

Nokia wants to make a pocketable computer, which you can use anytime, anywhere, and for any purpose you want.

Apple's goal is to feed their fans with something new, and get another few hundred dollars from them.
They also use the term "mobile computer", but they only allow you to use it for the things they want you to.

So am I to understand that the proposed advantage of MeeGo with QT base to support cross platform portable apps will be a non-advantage on larger screen MeeGo devices - say like a netbook or tablet or set top box ? So if apps dont count does it mean any MeeGo device with a largish display (larger than a smartphone) might as well only ship with a browser ? So then all this talk of multi-device multi platform app support advantage of MeeGo might as well be discounted ?

I think now with iPhone apps etched in our minds , any talk of apps on tablets brings up comparisons to iPhone type apps. Of course firstly apps apps apps doent literally translate to quantity, it also means quality, and secondly apps on a large display device will naturally try and take into account such a use case. Why do people jump to conclusions thats apps will be the same smartphone type apps (and am not talking about iPad here).

I dont see how apps will not matter in any use case. Dont we use apps on a desktop or a netbook ?

Dear god not Intel Atom!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As far as a meego pad goes........... awesome news.

Would be even better if it used TI's Omap4 SoC.

oh, and a six inch screen with a 960x540 resolution.
