It also works similarly to the "previous app" button in later versions of PalmOS - not multitasking, just fast and convenient task switching.

Another lame part in bold; it's like saying those devices failed, but in fact, those are NICE TO HAVE features, not blew. It's blew when they don't have it and have to cover up by saying another.

User shouldn't have to think about Task Manager. Alright, but doesn't mean they shouldn't have it. It's a feature that is nice to have. Besides, the way they put it, it's like their device is only meant for "dumb" users who don't know what is task manager and how to use it.

In a sense, they're just trying to control as much as possible and also for those features they're missing or lack of, they have their way with the words; but to more advance users, those are rubbish excuses.
What if Windows does not provide Task Manager? Usually, the admin might disable the Task Manager to some users. So, to Apple,... their customer is those type of users? :eek:

Psst. people I do not know single person (beside myself) who really really knows how to use symbians app switching. Who to fck really cares how we, the minority users or so called powerusers (if you log in to this forum you are already very very experienced user in my eyes), use our phone? All what matter is how majority of average joes use phone. If they have to think how to multitask or read manual you have lost the game (market) already.

People are arguing here about what is best to them, but in my eyes only thing that matters is how much you sell your device and applications. That is the best feedback.

my humble opinion here - apple does the right marketing - all what it needs - no matter who invented it before or if it is copied - thats what will make the new iphone a huge success - all ahh_iphone_has_no_multitasking_i_will_never_buy_it will jump on the train.

i wait for the physical keyboard_iphone and good bye rest of mobile phone world.

That's because this forum has quite a few end users as members.

Which matters if you're the device manufacturer (Nokia) or (proprietary) application developer. This is why HTC has put SenseUI over Android and WinMo, and why Nokia started up the Ovi store.

If no one understands the s60 task switcher, how is this better? It works the exact same way, except you double click instead of long clicking. Neither is more obvious than the other.

Unless your argument is that most Apple users will watch the demo, then remember the key later, and pretend it's intuitive. In which case you're probably right. Such is the power of advertising.

You probably dont know a lot of Symbian users. My Mum is over 60 and she figured out how to do this on her new 5230. How hard can it be to press a button. in fact the iPhone OS just copied s60 here. Press and hold.

I prefer beer and we do not have that luxury here in Finland. For some reason, after serving many years as all-around helpdesk in computer and gadget releated things to my friends and reletives I have seen too many end users. Have to just say it's not pretty thing. All I can say is that Apple has hit the right spot. Maybe it's just advertising and mass religion but eventually those who make most of money survive.....and also OS :)
