@etuoyo agree that the delay when switching to portrait can be irritating, and I hope it's fixed in coming updates. However it has never been a problem in a way that it has made me miss a call. Perhaps there is some problems with some applications? Are you using experimental applications? (from devel and such)

HtheB, thanks for making my point! You are still trying to claim that the guy might hate the N900, even though he specifically said the opposite. I think that your emotion makes you reading impaired. Too many people here are like you.

I think it's perfectly legitimate to say that the OP needs to fix his device or return it, or whatever. It's just not legitimate to say (a) any criticism of the N900 means that you hate the N900, or (b) that any connection between the N900 and a phone is some sort of coincidence, they have nothing to do with each other.

It is ALSO not legitimate to act like the header from the article is the only important part (My N900 is the worst phone in the world.) Try to read things in context. The OP specifically said that his comments only applied to his particular phone, not to N900s in general. So those of you who reacted like he was criticising all N900s have no case.

I was replying in general (that says that it hates his/her N900), not for a specific person :)

Sensible I can do. But I see less sensible people knocking anyone who says N900 is a phone.
People telling others that they shouldn't have bought the N900 if they wanted a phone blah blah.

I remember qgil or some other Nokia guy here (peter?) saying that N900 is a mobile phone.

However, I do see the other side of the story here.
See link - http://www.nokia.com.au/find-product.../nokia-n900-01
It's soon to be releasing in Oz here and it says "Nokia N900 Touchscreen Mobile Computer". :p

At the end, all the new smart phones these days have the same or better hardware at core. So N900 isn't anything special or unique hardware wise. So it must be the OS which makes it a tablet and not a phone? If so, is it OKAY for N900 to have a crappy phone function as it's not a phone? It is all about playing with words now.

This is...

And there is no portrait mode.

I would disagree, that phone even has video calls ;-) (as long as the string is short enough)
Is this the iphone 4.x ?

That wasn't aimed directly at you, apologies if you thought so. But it was actually aimed at other posters, particularly the harsh first few replies in the thread. BTW I dont feel I've jumped down your throat either!

Now that we're out of each others throats :p I hope the thread will go back to responding to the OPs post. It's a bit all over the place at the moment. I hope the OP will reply and let us know if he's already seeked help via warranty, or any other steps he has done/planned to do. The behaviour of his handset is clearly not right, he's spent a lot of money and I hope he'll get everything sorted. Hopefully he'll reply back soon telling us everything is resolved and now he's got the best phone in the world ;)

So you were just speaking generally of hypothetical people, none in the thread. Hypothetical people with a hypothetical opinion. You feel very strongly that these hypothetical people should go elsewhere. Perhaps they should.

If you want to call N900 an internet tablet with phone functionality, please stop ranting about IPhone which lack flash support and multitasking as it's just a phone with some tablet functionality. As you see, your argument works in both ways. Anyway, my point is that you should try to be more objective and use common sense. And to make things clear: I like N900 a lot and I hate IPhone but I'm not blind and see flaws and good sides of all devices.

The problem is the title is "ignitive" and now the thread is veering off-topic and descending into people trying to defend themselves.

I don't think etuoyo is actually reading this thread anymore.

------------------------

@etuoyo:
What I would say that if you are missing important phone calls then maybe get another temporary phone?

I know that is a crap solution but if your are willing to maybe keep the n900 and wait for the next update? Hopefully the phone app will be a little more stable.

Let us know how you get on.

Hey no problem - It's just a misunderstanding - sorry.
(Hugs & kisses kojacker ;) )

If it is not too late maybe etuoyo can return it to the retailer and get a speedy replacement.
