@dj_steve: is it possible to calibrate the screen? Is there an app to do this? I tried in the console emulator "touch test" but it gave me an error: "permission denied" even after having typed "su" to get root's permissions.

The screen driver is pretty buggy so calibrating would not fix anything IMO.

Did you set lock pattern by any chance? I did and it worked well but once i rebooted i got the same problem youve just described. To recover, i mounted the phone back to a linux pc, formatted the second partition and extracted .tgz2 a fresh. unmounted and its been okay ever since.

"Enable key OMAP35xx, AM37xx, AM35x hardware features (ARM plus NEON, DSP, 2D/3D Accelerated Graphics and others)"

:D
Now we can have accelerated 3D and DSP support!

The N900 has a TI OMAP 3430 SoC 600 MHz ARM Cortex-A8 CPU and 430 MHz C64x+ DSP.

NOW the question is if the OMAP35xx patches can be used to enhance NITdroid for the N900!!

EDIT: It would be a blast if Steve could use the DaVinci patches from rowboat and get hw acceleration !!

Am following this thread with anticipation, i am more an end user, so wont be trying this just yet, one question I have is does using android on n900 affect streaming of say bbc iplayer, is its smoother on android as using a different browser set-up, or does it not make a difference?! also is android updated with new flash 10 version so this is a way of getting uodated flash player on n900? sorry if questions have obvious answers...

there is no gpu support so far so even if flash 10 installation is possible, its useless as gpu doesnt work

Mhmm... I think the BeagleBoard has the same GPU. Correct me if I'm wrong. We only need the GPU drivers

Maybe, maybe there are more patches that optimize Rowboat for the Omap armel platform.

1. iPlayer for android might work on the current build of NITdroid, but if its slow or laggy then wait untill he gets hardware acceleration working. HW acceleration would make most apps work without any speed issue.

2. Short answer:Not yet. Long answer: The current NITdroid build is based on Enclair (2.1), Enclair has flash lite 4.7 or something (not sure on the version number) and is not as functional as flash 9 which is on Maemo. DJ_Steve has said that when he gets the hold of the Froyo source (android 2.2) he will begin to transfer his achievements onto this base, and Froyo has flash 10.1 as you wanted. Maemo will also get flash 10.1 sooner or later.

Why don't you try reinstalling the files again?

I don't know. I haven't tried. But if others made it work without running those commands, there is something with your installation. Just replace the files on the SD.

Mine worked without the need of chmod'ing the folders, so try again. Also how is your card partitioned and how large is it?

I'm using a 4gb card. One partition is 250 while the other is 3.4 gb.
you never got any out of storage space? plus what about typing? the easiest way to delete is use the onscreen keyboard?

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

I think I have got a really big problem. I went through all the steps from post # 296 and after the last command it flashed the kernel, but the screen stoped at the point where it showes the Nokia logo and the symbol for R&D mode. If I take out the battery, micro sd card or sim card doesn't matter. As soon as I put the battery back in, I see the same picture. Power button is also not doing anything.
If someone knows a solution please please help me. I don't want to lose my N900.
I'M looking forward to your relies.

right, imnot at home tonight so no dev work but ill try and help where i can, firstly i need the boot.log of someone who cant install (mount microsd on pc delete the boot.log file in root of partition then umount it and boot nitdroid then try to install something after it fails shutdown and link the bootlog to me.

second the 3d gfx support needs a newer kernel from what i can see so it is something i need to look t backporting perhaps

edit: can someone please putup a few bug reports @ bugs.nitdroid.com also help us get some organisation :)

Hold down U, then plug it in and put in the battery. Something like this happened to me, and I just kept trying different ways of holding down U, plugging in USB, and inserting the battery. It took me some time.

is it possible to boot nitdroid up after disableing R&D mode?

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

Hey dj_steve just for information:
if I understood well, we use the same kernel to boot both android and maemo. Isn't it possible to use one kernel for maemo (on maemo partition) and one kernel for android (on the sd card)?

dj_steve 2010-06-16 20:02

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

nope the kernel boots the entire device or nothing really, until we can sort out kexec which may not ever happen

when i open the app store it updates but it doesn change?

dj_steve 2010-06-16 20:07

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

it should do try reboot and run it again, i haven tested the app stoes tho

nielsvg 2010-06-16 20:09

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

i did with removing the battery but it remains downloading, status is 1/5 filled but nothing after that

JackyBoy 2010-06-16 20:18

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

@dj_steve:
you may be aware of that but this is what I found about kexec on N900 and it seems to be possible to use it:
http://wiki.meego.com/ARM/Meego_kexec_install_on_N900
I hope it will be usefull and I presume that it will be easier to compile an "android kernel" for the n900 than using the maemo kernel to boot android and having all the drivers working.

While you're at it, AKA flashing, just run flasher-3.5 --disable-rd-mode
And your N900 will be out of R&D mode.

RE the App store issue, mine filled up to about 3/5 at first, then after reboot it got to 100%. Maybe you should wait a while?

nielsvg 2010-06-16 21:21

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

but then i dont have dualboot?

but if i do everything i said then everything is also back to normal and no nitdroid (i also have to format my mem card)

ToJa92 2010-06-16 21:23

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

Yeah the bootmenu will be removed, and if you want the entire memory card capacity back you should format it.

I think that you just have to reflash the kernel with pr1.2. No need to reflash rom and emmc
Code:

flasher-3.5 -f -k "path to pr1.2" -R

Do you have a fast broadband connection? I updated mine on 2megabit/s and it took maybe 1-2 minutes.

There's ~300-400 apps available, as the Android "Market" app is not included.

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

yes its fast but still the same problem
