I use Ubuntu Linux desktop and Arch Linux laptop.
http://www.forum.nokia.com/Tools_Doc...atforms/Maemo/ installed fine on both. You don't need anything else - this installer installs the full scratchbox setup.
I would advise going with Debian/Ubuntu though. Arch has an unusual startup script and installer couldn't update these, so it required manual tweaking.

Yes, the current SDK is for PR1.2, but UAE4All does not use any of the updated components, so self built binary works fine on PR1.1.1

@smoku Ive tried installing the sdk on ubuntu 10.04 lts and it just doesnt seem to do anything, I even went through the so called fixes for 10.04 and I have to say they aren't very accurate. I managed to get through most of it but still doesnt seem to work. any help you could give me would be most appreciated

Thanks, I will add the games you mentioned in the message board to the list. However I would appreciate it if you then submit them to the list as normal as I can't add your compatibility results to the database, except under my own login details.

I had never thought it might be useful to have a function where I can submit tests results and have them assigned to someone else, it always assigns to whoever is logged in.

If you got the installer to complete on 10.04 you are one better than me right now.

I decided to try installing the SDK as Linux Format turned up with morning with Ubuntu 10.04 on the cover. I tried using the Maemo 5 SDK GUI installer and it failed with a load of "not configured" error messages after installing scratchbox.

I will reboot and try again.

i installed the scratchbox installer , then installed all the nokia app code, the only reason I upgraded to 10.04 is because Im doing an OU course on LInux to try and learn a bit more about it and they specify it needed to be an LTS version so I went for the latest version, doh!

I had no such problems on 10.4.
Just downloaded SDK installer, run it and proceed to finish. Than typing 'scratchbox' gives me compilation environment.

If your "it just doesnt seem to do anything" mean that double clicking Maemo5 SDK shortcut does nothing - it's a bug. The shortcut was created for older Xephyr. The current one does not have -xb option (AFAIR).
Just edit /usr/local/bin/start_xephyr.sh and remove the last option from the Xephyr command, it should be:
Code:

[...]
# Automatically created by Maemo 5.0 SDK Installer
(Xephyr :2 -host-cursor -screen 800x480x16 -dpi 96 -ac ; newgrp sbox <<'END'
[...]

I don't know about the current SDK but the last time I used it you do only have a blank screen. That is merely the "virtual N900 screen" where anything you are testing will output. Its quite confusing when previously I had used the Windows Mobile SDK which runs a fully emulated copy of Windows Mobile.

Personally, it still fails installing the SDK. I get exactly the same error using SDK installer as the GUI one. It gets so far then every package starts resulting it "unconfigured" until it eventually gives up with too many errors.

I'm wondering if I might need to install Ubuntu from scratch. Smoku, did you install from scratch or just upgrade your older Ubuntu to the latest one? Would explain it if you upgraded as the SDK would already have been installed.

@Alex Atkin UK and Smoku

Is there a version available with a more readable gui, reading through the small text is a pain in the ar@e?.:)

I would test games and add to the compatibilty list much quicker, my best time to do stuff with my phone is late at night unfortunately when my eyes are at their most tired straining my eyes can't be good long term. ;)

You did something wrong.
Xephyr window shows the N900 shell - with four desktops, applications menu etc. Itīs a full "emulator".

No. My Ubuntu installation is with me for several years and several dist-upgrades.
