Wow, BW, thanks very much for these notes! You can be sure I'll use them and I really appreciate your having taken the time to write them up and post them.

This is yet another great example of what makes this forum such a great resource. :D

OK after being inspired and instructed by so many of you, and after playing around with different background images and icons, I'VE settled on these for now.
Thank you all for your step-by-step institutions.

Cool, services. Might be a handy thing to have around.. ;)

BTW, my current screen. I made it match my openSUSE system (bootsplash, et al on openSUSE)

If I might ask: what software is providing your IP information in that screen? That's essentially what I wanted, but I've found (and settled on) IPHome. I would rather have something like the applet shown in your screenshot, with transparency, etc... even if it shows a little less information.

One of Khertan's Home applet collection. They're in Extras-devel.

sadly it only shows wifi ip, not bluetooth dun or pan...

hmm, usb networking, is that a diablo feature or something i missed?

qwerty12 2008-05-25 09:33

Re: Show off your screenshots

Well, you can edit the applet to show whatever interface you want.

Nope, it can be done in chinook too ;)

tso 2008-05-25 11:52

Re: Show off your screenshots

true, but i dont feel like editing it. and iphome is smart enough to show them all depending on whats active at the moment.

hmm, as in a usb-ethernet dongle?

qwerty12 2008-05-25 12:54

Re: Show off your screenshots

In this case, it means having the n800 show up as an network interface when you connect it to a pc so you can remotely compile programs, use the pc's net connection, ssh in over usb etc.

But you can connect a usb to ethernet adapter and use it successfully. usbLAN sets it up and i've compiled a asix module for someone else.

thanks... I grabbed up a bunch of 'em. :) Of note, is one called homecalendar which "displays an mCalendar". I downloaded it and installed it, and so far (on my system) it displays an error message about not being able to open a database.... I guess I need to find out what an mCalendar is, and how to get one on my system, now... but that's well outside the scope of this "screenshots" thread, so...

thanks again for the pointer. :)

Re: Show off your screenshots

First, sorry this might not be the best place to stick this post, but in a way it is a screen shot. Finally got my VNCviewer to cooperate with OpenSUSE. I was having problems using some of the KDE 4 tools, like Krfb, and in the beta of OpenSUSE 11 wasn't working. Anyways, here it is using x11vnc, and something nice to look at is changing the screen so that if, like in my case, you just want to use the tablet to remote control a music player on someting hooked into the stereo, change it so the player app is huge. Also, go the other way. For me going from a 1200 x 800 resolution to the N800, 6/10 or 1/2 worked great, with somewhere in between being perfect depending on how you size the VNC window. Here are directions in configuring x11. I know this is no great accomplishment, but it wasn't that easy for little ole noob, me.

Nice ;)

From what I can see, it's either a GConf edit (I've already seen the WiMax entries a long time ago ;) or just moving the icon to the wifi one and refreshing the gtk cache :p

hmm, running all those python applets, cant be good for the battery...

Benson 2008-05-30 14:11

Re: Show off your screenshots

It was a gconf edit, of course; moving files would have been a crude dirty hack; this was just a dirty hack. I've still gotta update my website with a download section, and put my gpsd-clients package up, and then I'm gonna finish my uber-color bootmenu and show you up for real...

The python applets don't have a noticeable effect; they do nothing unless the display is on and the home screen is showing. (Which is how all good applets should behave...) Under high CPU load, sometimes you'll see them all say "Refreshing..." or something like that when you switch to the home screen, but usually you don't even see that. Khertan did an excellent job with them.

Firstly, ain't gonna happen :p

And besides, it's not my mod, It's by KotCzarny. All I did was integrate it into the diablo initfs with my custom bootmenu (because i can ;))

Anyway, Benson, how are your programming skills? I've got a little something that would be nice if we could fix :)

<shrug />I can program a little more than you claim you can, but I'd be hesitant to claim more, too...
Watcha got in mind? PM me; and if it's a public sort of topic, start a new thread or point me at where it's being discussed.

I've never claimed I can program, hell, look at my game threads where I put down my programing skills. I can do simple stuff and that's it.

If anyone else wants to do it, be my guest so i'll post here.

If you apt-get source hildon-desktop

You shall find a file - hildon-desktop-panel-expandable.c that is called by libhildondesktop/hildon-desktop-panel-window-dialog.c

This is the limit of statusbar icons and the drop down arrow thing that comes in it's place.

I've already trying increasing the limit but then we can't see the applets at all, so I was wondering if you know how to change it a little...

Here is my screenshot, NOT as glamorous as the others, it is 770/2008He w GVM beta II installed, captured by N800 camera. Cant do it with the N810, cause the camera is ******. Try to actually use the N810 camera, then you know what I am 6itching about.

Donnie I love your black theme on that page. Do you have a version available to download. The .deb on that forum does not look as complete on my n800 as your pictures do. Am I missing something or is that .deb not as upto date as your pictures?

I'll take a look at it sometime, but it's probably a week or two out. We know it's not fixed in Diablo, anyhow, so it's not particularly urgent... so it may be a month. :(

Yes, 0 is a claim, it's the claim you've made, and I am reluctant to claim more; although I have some capabilities, I've never really written an app worthy of the name.

My current desktop. N800, OS2008. It is quite comfortable.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3255/...b3711d06_o.png

The kid is mine, the dog isn't.

EDIT: After a PM request, I realized that it is good form to post links to non-standard things on your screenshot, to avoid lots of, "what's that applet? And that one?"

The third panel icon from the left, with the brightness and volume controls combined, is the Advanced Backlight Statusbar Applet.
The red digital clock is the Large Statusbar Clock using 26 point Pocket Calculator font.
The Internet Search applet has the ITT forum search; I resized the icon using ImageMagick (from Debian) and added it to the search using Edit Internet Searches app. Caveat: the custom search seems to get lost after reboots, I have to close and open the search applet to get it back...

EDIT2: Here's the post where I give my icon and search string.

I've also got OMWeather (doesn't everyone?), Personal Menu, and a few of those kool Khertan desktop applets. I think they're all in the Extras repo now, right?

I used to have the webmail notifier in my panel, but the Modest e-mail client is working well enough these days to serve my notification needs.

Hello, there made it is a former(ancient) subject for 770 but, I work on version for N810, which will soon go out, on the other hand the icons of of left and those of at the top will be the ones by default, because we cannot modify them in the last version of thememaker.

To sadden for my English but I use a translator, I do not speak about this language(tongue), I am French.
