Here is my bootscreen. It's the same color as the wallpaper below, but my camera didn't pick it up well.

I took this one the other day.

This is what it looks like right now, I just took this one. I'm not so sure about the launch icon, I think I'm going to go back in illustrator and fix it a little bit. I plan on replacing all 3 of the icons with self designed ones, but this is what I have right now.

Ghostshadow, at the great risk of asking an old question and sounding foolish, how did you replace your bootscreen with a custom one?

General, how did you get more than 3 contacts in your speed contacts? I seem to be limited to 3 only

Edit: Just found out. Just resize the Speed Contacts applet to accommodate more contacts and viola :)

Since it is rather vague (and the Debian armel port status changed in the mean time from unofficial and
just starting off to semi-official and quite mature) I've written a howto about this topic in the maemo wiki.

It can be found here - https://maemo.org/community/wiki/debianarmel_on_it/.

I have more screenshots too :) : http://www.flickr.com/photos/2254523...7603649694490/

One problem with this setup is that it's not all that useful in the long run, even if it does work okay. I may sound wrong but I think that everything that could and needed to be ported to maemo has already been ported anyway

Thanks for that wiki howto! I've been following the steps myself, and there are changes needed to update your wiki, especially when setting it up for OS2008. For instance, the method for putting ext2 on the memory card is slightly different, and the armel-root-fs needs a full "apt-get dist-upgrade"

Is there anywhere I can send these suggested updates? Also, what window manager is best for the N8x0? I see KDE has been successfully ported, would this method work to run KDE? Of the lightweight WMs you suggest, which is the most robust?

Nice. Is that OS2008? If so, where did you get the desktop quicklauncher with working transparency?

working transparency?
I think there is no transparency ... as the background is blank at this position ... this is not a problem :)

yes that is OS2008 as for the launcher it is simple launcher, I think that I got it from the Maemo garage... you can just do a search for it here or on Maemo.org
however like Khertan said, that isn't working transparency I just got lucky enough that the generic background color of the simple launcher happens to match my background. oh and it doesn't actually work right all the time either, as there is really 5 items on the launcher but the 5th one is hidden, as a quick generic fix

I was curious if anyone knows if it's possible to get a 'echo' (OS2008) type theme for the Nokia 770?

(Image is one of my own, from http://flickr.com/photos/gm2net/2122536564/ - it's 10 UV keychain torches shining at a bright green post-it note, which florescences brightly)

Also, note the two apps running - they're quite often running.

Here's my desktop. This is a self-serving post to show off the statusbar clock for 2008 (see here->http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=16574)

Screenshot no 223 - very nice - and pretty ingenous putting the Weather applet to fit into the light-beam area.

fiferboy, would love to see your applet packaged and ready to install - good to make the screen cleaner and remove the clock applet on the desktop and instead have it on the task bar.

I use osso-statusbar-cpu to display the time in the tray, launch a few apps and take screenies, and I do prefer the smaller font, but it's still a nice applet, fiferboy.

qole 2008-02-13 20:39

Re: Show off your screenshots

Thanks to fiferboy, I now have lots of reclaimed space on my home page... Although now my status bar is overflowing, even with the advanced brightness control. XMMS in windowshade mode is great for listening to Internet radio, and it stays out of the way, since XMMS insists on always being on top, no matter what app is running. Other times, when I'm just idling at the home screen and I want to see what is playing, I make XMMS double-sized for easy reading.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2136/...e58a33db_o.png

Onyros, if you use osso-statusbar-cpu to display the time, then why do you also run the clock applet on your home screen?

Onyros 2008-02-13 22:27

Re: Show off your screenshots

Cuz it's purrrty :p

Naa, sometimes, I don't know why, the time display lags a bit in osso-statusbar-cpu and I compare it with the desktop applet, to make sure it's right (a click on the applet also works). Also, I don't just use it to display time, but to launch a few apps.

Even so, I don't really see the desktop much, I always have something open when I'm using the IT, so only when the desktop's clean is the clock applet visible.

BTW, you can minimize XMMS if you use xmmsctrl to restore it (and that's one of the reasons I use osso-statusbar-cpu).

Not wanting to OT much, I remember I could dim the lighting a bit more in OS2007 (or was it a placebo effect?), can you dim it a little more with the advanced backlight control applet?

I always use the lighting at the minimum (I'm kinda like a mogwai, hate bright lights), and it saves a lot of battery that way. A little more wouldn't hurt, and it would save even more battery.

qole 2008-02-15 23:08

Re: Show off your screenshots

The advanced backlight control has very fine-grained control, indeed. It can get so dark that I can't really read it... Just now, I made it as dark as possible, and then set the tablet down. It actually brightened up a bit when it went to the "powersave mode" that it does before going black.

excuse me random todo's. i need to do homework, make a 4 pin to 3 pin audio adapter (as my portable speakers seem to not work with the N800's 4 pin for some weird reason), and i need to ship a game I sold [/not useful information]

Over here is a great enhancement. http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=16531

It allows a huge range of dimming ability and integrated the sound control into the one icon.

This is mine at the moment. Please to notice most beautiful statusbar clock provided by the wonderous fiferboy (Andrew).

I'm like you, ChrisKos. I end up changing around the look a lot.

I'm kinda hoping someone out there with a lot of time and energy (hear that fiferboy?!?!?!) will be able to come up with some kind of screenshot slideshow application.

It'd be neat to tap on the screen and not know, exactly, what screenshot'll come up. Or plug PlayThing into the charge and just use it as one of those electronic picture frames (with the added bonus of internet radio and weather.

Jeeze. Just using it as that makes the cost of the N800 totally worth it.

Have you tried quiver? It does a great slideshow and it doesn't take much processor time. I use it on my desk along with mplayer or fm radio as a picture frame.

Um... will quiver will run the slideshow behind the applets?

I'm having fun with quiver now but I'm hoping for something behind the applets (evenutally).

God. I love my N800... .
