Re: Show off your screenshots
Oh, when PlayThing's at home where this would be, I have it plugged in at all times.
I have use it extensively for radio listening (and alarming during weekdays). And now I'm fidgetting with Lastfm. Yup. PlayThing's indispensible now. I'm thinking the next purchase would be a backup battery and an extra charger that I'd keep at work. Since the wireless network is heavily monitored and passworded up the whazzu, I'd use PlayThing as a picture frame and just run stored podcasts or music behind it. That's why I would like lotsa lotsa pretty background images and like this thread. Learned about the new statusbar clock and the half-n-half volume/dimmer applet. And seen some neato pictures, too. |

Hi all,
here's my rather dull screenshot, especially when compared to many of those already posted here. I kinda like my screen estate clear of too many applets and icons, but I have definitely started to have a re-think what else I can place there ;) http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...1&d=1203373526 Basic set of applets and apps; * Omweather + Omweather Shiny * Pidgin Cheers, --troozers |

Now here's my fresh new N810 Spring desktop :D http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...screenshot.png And for the record KDE will do changing backgrounds on the N8x0 and doesn't use up any extra CPU (except for the small bit when it's actually swapping the background). |

troozers: I can save you even more space!
I used to use Pidgin. All the time. But all of that has changed. I've uninstalled Pidgin now that I'm using the new rtcom-beta-os2008 update. It bundles all of the Pidgin plugins into the built-in IM client (via Telepathy-Haze). So now I automatically sign in to all of my IM accounts as soon as I go on the network. |

Re: Show off your screenshots
Here is my very standard setup. I made the background. Got tired of all the pretty fancy ones. Needed one that suited my tastes =P

A little something of my home screen. Just some random photo I took. And the current test theme I'm making. If anyone is interested to try out the theme, try it out and comment to me (it's not yet ready).

I'm just waiting for someone to come out with a ghost theme for OS2008: a non-glaring white-ish grey that would allow the background photo to pop out more behind it. Those application icons are solid and colourful - no way they'd fade into a background image so the theme doesn't have to be such a powerful colour block. I wish there also was an emulator for the desktop landscape so that finding a suitable image would be easier. Maybe in PhotoShop or some such application where a basic N8xx template can be plonked down on top of preferred photos so you can cut'n'crop to get the desired effect? |

Re: Show off your screenshots
Konttori,
Very cool. Nice work. I like it very much. If I may be so bold as to ask. Can you make a version with the date and time that can fit in the light menu on top? It would really add more space on the main viewing area. Also on digital clock can you make it like the clock on echo theme and can you make it as transparent as the echo them so that the menu icons look like they are floating in the background picture? If you showed me how I would help. I also would like to see someone develop a theme that the icons as you go over them they enlarge and the name of app is floating over them ala mac(I don't know what they are called). Again great work. Dan |
Re: Show off your screenshots
PinCushionQueen and rscasas: how did you get your desktop like that? Like the application listing on the left or the application icons on the bottom?
edit:nm, found out about KDE |
Re: Show off your screenshots
cLin, Just from looking at rscasas' screen shot, the applications icons on the left are running applications, and the ones on the bottom are from SimpleLauncher.

OK... how'd you get a HD icon and get rid of the app icon?
Wait! How'd you get rid of the theme completely? Here's my current screenshot. I see the 2008 StatusBar_ Clock applet is becoming very popular :) I'm also using the very nice, very discrete 'contour' set for omweather that came out last week, I believe? I just really wish I could get rid of the huge international radio display. It's just so... obvious, ya know? |

Okie, contact applet can be disabled by installinng cmd-navigator from above link. But what about presence applet WITH your accounts enabled. Because this thread is about screenshots and im mysterious (or a prick :p), i'll leave you with a screenie:
I have fixed my prickish ways. I actually was going to write up a guide but as soon as I saw it needed root access and vi, I thought it would be easier on n00bs to create a deb: http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...d.php?p=153051 Enjoy. |
Re: Show off your screenshots
To answer the questions about my theme.
1. How to get the border less theme. I made a copy of a theme I liked, echo in my case. To get rid of the borders along the top and left side I edited the image files located in /usr/share/themes/theme name/images/ qgn_plat_theme_thumbnail.png qgn_plat_home_status_bar_background.png qgn_plat_task_navigation_background.png I used Gimp to edit the images. I just removed all the color leaving only the transparency. There are also some files under the theme directory that will need editing for the name of your copied theme, I'll post the file names later (I'm at work). 2. For the icon, I replaced the original located in /usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/hildon You will need to remove /usr/share/icons/hicolor/icon-theme.cache then run gtk-update-icon-cache -f -t /usr/share/icons/hicolor Make sure to back up the orignal one first. I got the info here... http://maemo.org/development/documen...ng_themes.html There is also theme maker avaiable for OS2008 but I'm happy with most of the echo theme. http://konttoristhoughts.blogspot.co...eme-maker.html Let me know if you want more info. |

OK. Blew an evening playing 'round with ThemeMaker to rid myself of the border and try to lighten up the radio icon.
The Jodphur photo (photo 1) is with my new NiceLight theme (the one with the default theme is somewhere earlier on this thread as a comparison). It's nice that the radio isn't *as* obvious and borderless looks good on detailed backgrounds like the harbour near the Burrard Bridge in Vancouver (photo 2). Thanks to qwerty12's new deb (located in the Apps forum today), I managed to also get rid of my 'presence' indicator. I just wish there was some way to make the radio icon smaller, too. It manages to overpower most of my photos :( But I'm getting to where I want to go at least but I don't think I'll truly be happy until that damned radio button stops ruining my view ;) (photo 3). |
Re: Show off your screenshots
Betty: Is there anyway that you can share that theme with the rest of us? Id do it myself but I have no idea where to start!
Thanks |
