There may have, but that is not in my current priority list. But maybe in the future.

Thanks for the great app. I am using Sony alpha camera, and I found on another forum people using Minolta RC3 file for Sony alpha 350. Could you possible include it and I can test it on my alpha 330?

Yes, I can include it, and I will do that as soon as I find enough time to do that (hopefully in next few weeks).

Hi there all :) first time poster...

I too would like to see sony profiles to be included in this software :) I'm using an Alpha 500 (it should be the same profile with A330s right?), and wouldnt mind testing it if needed too :)

I took this photo with pyKake, can't live without my pyKake! :D

Is it maybe possible to be able to set timed photo intervals to seconds with decimals? Like 9.55 seconds? I was trying to exactly time something and 10 seconds was too slow, and 9 seconds was too fast.

Need help here..
I've never been able to get this to work with my XSi for some reason. I came back to it, tried it and it didn't work. I am pointing the IR sensor of the N900 to the camera one from about 2 inches away and nothing.
I turned off the camera, back on- no change.
Removed and reinstalled pykake- no change.
Am I doing something wrong here? Am I missing some kind of setting that needs to be enabled?

Yup you missed a setting on the camera ;)
You need to put your camera in the 'Self Timer/Remote' (Is that the right word?) setting.

Thanks for the help. Going to give it a shot now.

Re: pyKake - DSLR Remote control

Hello! This time I bring some good news :) The pyKake 0.7.3 is kicked to the autobuilder, and it includes support for Minolta and Sony (I couldn't test that by myself, but I assume that here is lot of avid testers to do that). So, I will say, that Sony (Alphas) should be supported now (as long as they really work with Minolta RC3) - And of course, Minolta is supported too, cause it is Minoltas remote file.

So, without longer speaks, Feel free to test* the version 0.7.3 is in extras-devel (or should be as soon as it goes trought the autobuilder)!

And I wish you will send the results here.

*) At your own risk of course, it is in devel after all, and there may be some bugs I haven't noticed (but that is non likely because changes for the version 0.7.2 were only few added lines of code and couple of commented prints).

Re: pyKake - DSLR Remote control

Ok, like usually with the first build... there was some bugs (this time they were harmless, but pretty stupid) which caused some problems, but those are fixed now. Build 0.7.3-2 is in the autobuilder.

Re: pyKake - DSLR Remote control

hi yabba,

thank's for the very useful software, but i've a problem to enjoy with my sony alpha 55, because it won't work properly.
I've installed pykake 7.3.2 on a n900,rebooted the system and choosen remote control on my camera. But if pressed the shutter button pointing to my camera nothing happens.
I think, that the command strings of minolta cams are not the same as sony's newer alpha camera generation. Please tell me what maybe the reason for this malfunction.

Your quesses are as good as mine, I don't have Minolta neither Alpha to test them, so I just added that Minolta remote (which was said that it may work with Alpha), crossed my fingers and kicked it to the autobuilder, because that is all I can do for cameras not made by Olympus.

Anyway, here is short check list to find plausible errors:
1. Does the IR sensor blink (just watch it trought the live view), if not, then the problem is in device (my sensor is blinking), or if you have irreco installed, it might cause some errors for lirc files.
2. If you run the pykake from the xterm (python /opt/pykake/pykake.py), do you get any error output?
3. Double check that you have set your camera in Remote mode, so it knows to look out for IR signal.

No, i havnīt installed irreco and my ir-led isnīt blinking (watched by live view as told):(

Iīve tried this, but there is no error shown and it starts up properly:(

Itīs seemingly a problem of my device. Iīll test some other ir apps in front of the camera and maybe try to reinstall my firmware. If iīve got it working, iīll tell you my solution:(Thankīs for your fast response

Re: pyKake - DSLR Remote control

Doesnt work for my Sony A500, either. :(
LIRC starts successfully and has started it's daemon. There is no error outputed when i try the Shutter button.
However... i cant see a red light through the live-view... i know that it has captured invisible light before in the same way, but it didnt this time. (Might be too dark?)
Any advice? I rebooted once.

Re: pyKake - DSLR Remote control

Hi all.

I've found a lirc file on dpreview with all the RMT-DSLR1 buttons scaned.
Names S and S2 should be the instant shoot and 2s delay shoot.

Yabba, is that possible to you including it in your file format ?
That would be great if we had a conf file where include our raw codes.
Regards

Re: pyKake - DSLR Remote control

I just tested the pykabe 0.7.3 (newest version). I went ahead and installed irreco so as to have the full IR package.
When I had pykabe running and tested it with my canon, nothing happened. On rare occations the lens autofocused, but nothing beyond that. So I went over the irreco and tried that, nothing. So while having both apps running I switched over to pykabe and suddenly everything worked as it should. After a little experimenting I came to the conclusion that pykabe doesn't work without having irreco running in the background.

Works Perfectly

It works Perfectly with my 550d!!! I was looking to invest in a remote shutter release to do long exposure photography without touching my dslr, now I dont have to! Great Work hope you keep creating such software!

Re: pyKake - DSLR Remote control

I can confirm that A77 works with cipper's fix. Don't forget to run irreco and pyKake together.
Thank you

Thank you

yes it works, and in my case without irreco (not even installed)

I found that after installing irreco the /etc/lircd.conf becomes empty; instead you should have the following lines in your /etc/lircd.conf :

include "/opt/pykake/cameras/canon/RC-1"
include "/opt/pykake/cameras/nikon/ML-L3"
include "/opt/pykake/cameras/olympus/RM-1"
include "/opt/pykake/cameras/pentax/RC-F"
include "/opt/pykake/cameras/minolta/RC3"

cipper, my lircd.conf is exactly filled with that lines.

Hi yabba,

Thank's for the very useful software. I have also got it working on my Sony Nex5n, by replacing cipper's code (thank's cipper).

Great work -Regards

Awesome. Just tried this with my Pentax K-5. Works very well. Nice to have the IR port on the N900. ;)

Just dreaming... Is there any possiblity to add a control mode via usb AND make this available for N9 without IR?

Something like this would be awesome:

Thanks, Cipper.
Got my N900 to work with my Sony A6000. Both instant shutter as well as 2 second delay works using Pykake with the new codes installed in the minolta section.
