Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS
Ok, guys I have a lot of work to do, seriously...
I will not be active here answering to alomost every post, due to the massive work ( unfortunatelly not connected to maemo) I need to do before Tuesday evening. |
Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS
Well, I did something wrong and I just can't get any messages. I need to reset the whole thing. I tried removing the /ETC/OMAPCAM/CM4397.ENC. file, but I just didn't find it. Actually there is no cm4397.enc file anywhere. Please help me!
If you don't want to send a public info about it, please send it directly to roberto@datafidelis.com.br. Thanks & Regards. |
Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS
Hi,
I was playing with the new version today. I had one problem with it so far: - It connected to my MMS APN, which doesn't really have internet, so it failed to send any e-mail etc. - How does it choose which access point to use? - One more question, I am using wifi switcher, since it's a great battery boost, I think "i am here" does not cope with that, that mean in 90% of the cases, if my phone was stolen or forgotten, the wifi will be disabled. |
Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS
It uses first available connection from the you have in connection settings.
I might improve it, so it will test connections until it finds working one, but It will still take some time. Wifi switcher.... thanks for the information, I will make it work. However above improvements will come in new version, new version will not come earlier than 1-2 weeks unfortunatelly. Please be patient :) |
Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS
@ roberto@datafidelis.com.b I am sorry, but I can't guess what could be your problem. If you have the newest version, I have not heard of such problems. If you have old version try to use the solution I presented to eitama one page earlier.

First 1 or 2 weeks is fast, not to mention your great help from last night. Super fast. You work is truly amazing in my eyes. I'd like to suggest the following : 1. If sim card is the original one, Use predefined list of connections, gprs and then wifi. (Preconfigured wifi and then free available hotspots) 2. if sim card is different or no simcard, use wifi. Cheers! |
Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS
I don't get this app, it's kinda confusing.
First of all, the packaging seems wonky, since the version number should not be part of the binary names and so on (right?). Secondly, I clearly stated to be able to remove the app, and when I did using 'apt-get remove' the files are still on the phone, and when I reboot it it automatically connects to my wifi network at home!! How can I make it stop? Help! |

gstreamer-tools and gstreamer-tools-0.10, they are widly used, no one complains. Quote:
Edit: the different versions number in the name of the program have some point believe me or not. That is why I have given the all the needed information how to install/uninstall staff in here. While everything got tested basically by at least hundred users, that read these posts, I have put a new version to the repositories. At the same time I have requested uninstalling the older version. |
Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS
However, I am checking your issue now, I will inform if I found anything
I checked, It is impossible, that the application is running after you have uninstalled it. However with apt-get -r you remove only the exacutable and few more, not configuration files... it is valid for every other package. However, I will make an update in following week, that will remove all the stuff while is being uninstalled. For now you are left with about 5kb at most of configuration on your N900. If you can leave with it, you can install the app now, however if you can't leave without this extra 5kb, then unfortunatelly have to wait week more :D Sorry guys, but I have so many things to do lately, however I wll try to be back on track after a 1-2 weeks :) Peace!! :D |

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS
hmm... wifi connections should not be changed, It does change the connection settings, when it needs to send an e-mail, and then reverts them back, unless you installed the app, while it was actively reporting.... In that case, the process could have been killed before it managed to revert the settings back.

I couldn't run the config again, also. When I tried to run the binary, I got a segfault after a "QtGTK or GtkQt" or something error message. |
Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS
Finally got around to installing this, and unfortunately it doesn't work for me. I use a bluetooth GPS receiver with my N900, so when I activated the program, I got an error on the phone about "unable to activate GPS, Try again?". Then 5 mins later, got a text on the other phone saying "Timeout set for GPS has expired!"
Can you make the next version of your program force the internal GPS to be used? |
Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS
Hi, sorry i know this must have been asked before..
I normally use -ask everytime- in my internet connection but since I installed this, it keeps going online by itself, sometimes wifi sometimes gprs... I havent even enabled it by sms yet... either this is a bug or its something to do with settings?? |
Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS
Have you installed it from repos? It should have been fixed in 0.3.

CM4397.ENC not found in /ETC/OMAPCAM/ is not supposed to be there. It has been valid for version2 I have 2 screens in configuration wizard with warnings, how not to **** it up :D and few more comments on other screens. Please read those. There is some reason I have put it there. |
Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

It stated, that the configuration window is shown only once, it states, that configuration files will stay on your device even after reinstalling and installing it again, like it happens with many other apps. If you want to run the configuration wizard, pleas send a message to yourself with the pass you have configured ("Config" is the default) |

Well, it is kind of hard to put so much info on such small device and make people read it :D
I have not found yet time, to design some more proper UI. |

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS
It's not just the UI - the fact that you input a bunch of passwords and never see the thing again makes for terrible usability. Here are my humble suggestions:
- make the user pick a MASTER PASSWORD in like all caps on the first screen upon install - have the app config present on the phone itself, by using the MASTER PASSWORD to access it - this way, if the user fracks up the config, they can go and change the array of passwords needed - have only one password! and have all commands derive from it, like: MASTER PASSWORD block phone MASTER PASSWORD email reports off MASTER PASSWORD sms reports on hourly MASTER PASSWORD take pic of burglar or something... of course, for this to work you need to intercept the SMS before it's shown (not sure if it's possible). But even if the burglar sees it, it's a good enough arrangement for me to choose it over multiple passes (which is also good). - have the file with the passwords somewhere known by the user Hey, just my two cents ;) |

MASTER PASSWORD is considered to be the Config password :) However I will think of something, later, for now it works pretty well for those, that have been thinking a bit while configuring or have read stuff in this thread. |

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS
One thing I think I have noticed, it looks like the SMS that I send needs to be the exact password and not even have a space after it. For example if my password is "hello" and I send "hello " then it does not activate the reporting. Also can you confirm that password is case sensitive?
Case sensitivity is a bit of a pain - imagine the situation - I have lost my phone and I send my password "hello" from a friends phone, but I don't know how to use his phone properly and I don't realise that it automatically puts the first character as upper case. I end up sending "Hello" and the app does not report back. This could waste valuable time. Another suggestion - what about if the app looks for the key phrase or word in a whole snetence. So if my password is "hildon" i send a message saying "Please phone aunty Hildon" and it activates reporting! |

I might consider the key phrase solution - sounds interesting! I think I need to make some pool on user requests shortly :) I get so many good ideas, don't know which one to implement. After a week of pool I could see the answers and implement stuff accordingly |
