N900 Really pissed me off lastnight
This is not a hate thread at all infact i love the n900 more than anything but lastnight was so depessing i was going to a concert bout 2hours drive away to see Akon Pitbull and others. And the F'ing maps on it is so rediculous i could even locate a simple destination. My N95 8gb was the best with maps but this N900 just made me want to cry. Anyway how long have we got to wait till we get decent Mapping?
Those sig maps dont support Australia i went to purchase it but my country is not listed. |
Re: N900 Really pissed me off lastnight
Everyone knows N900 map sucks....they better come out with Ovi Map Nav 3.0 quick or else it's time to jump to iPHONE 4.0. iPHONE 4.0 will debut this summer!!!

Re: N900 Really pissed me off lastnight
sygic works fine
so why the need for ovi maps because of iphone 4? does iphone 4 have full turn by turn navigation for free? |
Re: N900 Really pissed me off lastnight
Yes... agree, my N95 and the N96 both were perfect, and with N96 I even started buying the navigation licence and didn't need any TomToms to purchase in addition. N900 maps are a joke, indeed. To be honest I am still guessing why Nokia allowed N900 to be such a mess... I love the phone but there are too many problems, which take hours to sort out, plus the camera is also not so good (nothing to say about video calls...) and I am going to be stuck with this phone for two years as I am on a 24-months contract.... I am just keeping my fingers crossed that there will be some great soft update that will just make it perfect

Re: N900 Really pissed me off lastnight
Hi! I was an n810 user and also an n95. My n95 was stolen and unfortunately the n900 is not available in Argentina by nokia or carrier(that with a contract would be cheaper). Because of this I had to buy the motorola milestone/droid and its great. I love it. But as also with maemo, the mapping and gps apps are a downside of the OS. I hope that developers realized that these both great OS's need a decent GPS navigation apps(among other requests)
for maemo is there any news about garmin or tom tom to port any app? thnx... |

Either that or the crackers have used a non-retail version that was still compatible with them or something; although I find that unlikely. Also usual disclaimer of me not supporting piracy blah blah... please don't hurt me mods :P |

Re: N900 Really pissed me off lastnight
Basically you purchase and install Sygic maps for N900. Then you obtain an "unsupported" map that works on another platform, such as Android. You manually add this to the Sygic maps you have purchased.

(except for the part of it being a waste of money, I only had to pay 10 Euro's for the N900 cus i extended my contract :D ) I'm seriously considering to switch back to my N95-8GB as primary device for the following reasons: - FREE office app. - Google Maps (navigation) - Louder speakers (ringtones/media-player) - Easier to use with one hand - no need to mess with X-terminal and stuff, just install the app you want and go! At this moment I'm starting to feel like a Nokia-guineapig, who's visting the maemo-org forum daily just to try to get most out of it... |
Re: N900 Really pissed me off lastnight
It is indeed ridiculous and shameful what Nokia gave us with Ovi Maps on the N900 until now. I would fire the team (and yes, I'm a manager in software development). The concept is wrong, the design is wrong, the implementation sucks. Complete, utter failure.
OTOH, Ovi Maps 3.0 on the N82 was fantastic. Just think what they could have done with the power, space, screen, touch interface and integration possibilities of the N900. And all the map data they own. It just makes me wanna cry. |
Re: N900 Really pissed me off lastnight
unfortunately we are very much live Nokia guinea pigs - Unless the device gets picked up by a major US cellular company (aka T-Mobile) than Nokia will not take the device seriously. They aren't really a LARGE market share of Nokia's customer base who are using Maemo OS on their Nokia Smart Phones as opposed to say Symbian OS.
What this unfortunately means is we PAY MORE for a phone that will DO LESS (OR AT LEAST HAVE ALOT LESS SUPPORT) |
